  2. I've just watched the videos and it certainly does sound great, although as mentioned it would have been nice to have a pedal on/off comparison because the signal chain seems to involve one of the best bassists of our generation, a beautiful custom Lull bass and apparently a proper recording studio's worth of other gear. I'll bet it sounded ok without the pedal too. The price is outrageous but this is clearly being positioned at the top of the market alongside things like custom basses and other boutique pieces so I'm not sure how much rational thought can be applied to the price tag. It's easy enough to think that you could probably get that kind of range of sounds by putting a nice eq pedal in front of any normal transformer DI. Or you could even get most of the way there with a cheap multi effects. Hell if somebody buys one who also owns a NAM profiler then anyone can have access to all of the sounds of this new gadget for the princely sum of £60 or however much the GP5 costs these days. But then that takes all of the fun out of it, doesn't it?
  3. Yeah, that is a shame - sorry to hear they didn't get things sorted out to your satisfaction. That variability in experience is precisely why I shy away from giving any company too glowing a personal recommendation, though; I might consider that a company did alright by me, but in this case I was the one willing to accept a back-to-front cab as long as they confirmed that the ports (I know they aren't, but I forget the proper name..) firing in different directions was no sonic detriment, so maybe I'm a bad yard-stick to measure by. Thinking back, Alex's first reaction was along the lines of 'that actually looks pretty cool with the badges on either side', and I can see how some might not have been fully on-board with that as a customer service response. I'm used to my wonky stack now, and in fact when I put them in their road trunk for storage at the studio the fact that they can go in face-to-face to protect the grille cloth but still have the handles/feet facing the same way seems 'right' to me, so I'll mark myself out of any swapping and changing activities as there are many others like them.. but these ones are mine.
  4. Nice set up. Dave
  5. Good to hear it worked. I had a conversation with Neil Murray once and he was telling me how he would chop and change strings to get the volumes more even. Until he told me this i had no idea the string thickness would have such an effect. I now use 45-100 strings for this reason on my basses these days. Think it was ok when i was hitting strings really hard with my fingers but in recent years i'm playing a bit lighter and it seemed to be more noticeable. All good then. Dave
  6. I'm very much looking forward to those Ibanez Mode basses. I hope to test the 1000 and 1600 for De Bassist (Dutch bass magazine).
  7. Owned from new for around 12yrs, I bought this from Thomann and had it set up for Rockabilly. It definitely feels a step up from the entry level basses and I have used it live a lot. Most of its life has been more of feature in my living room though. The last couple of years I have been coming to terms with the fact that I need to sell it. Space is at a premium, it rarely gets used and I am of an age where the EUB seems the easier option. The specs are here Thomann link if anyone is interested. I added a pickup which has been useful - a David Gage Realist. People often call it a copper head. They’re industry standard and normally about £120 used. Mine is included with the bass at no extra cost to you. There is a tatty (by my high standards) gig bag and the strings are currently Gut-A-Like vintage ones Gut A Like strings You’ll see I added a few stickers. These should be fairly easy to remove. I’m happy to do it, or I can leave it. Equally I am happy to add more pictures. It’s currently lent against the wall in my place in Hungerford, where I am Sunday to Thursday evenings. Postage looks too hard to do so it would be a collection. I have gotten it in a Peugeot 107 before - not comfortably, so perhaps don’t bring the family if collecting!

  8. Some new Bass products already announced ahead of NAMM 2026 (which starts 20th Jan). Pedals: Boss GX-1B Bass: Andertons have a list The main thing so far seems to be that Ibanez have a new 'Mode' range of active Jazz types. https://www.ibanez.com/eu/products/model/mdm/ And some other stuff that might be interesting to Bass players: Korg KAOSS Pad V Korg microAudio interfaces
  9. Had my cumuppance. After declaring ordinary skeleton jacks are fine that on my Flea Jazz (2018 or thereabouts) started cracking loudly. Turned out the (apparently) silver plate had tarnished badly around the contact area. Contact cleaner and a polish with a rough cloth restored function. I'm assuming silver plate as the tarnish was black.
  10. Exactly... many are cosmetic- TZ's routing only claim doesn't stack up. Egen if you don't like them they aren't all there to cover routing.
  11. If 4 tracks are (muddle muddle) good enough for Jaco (confusion) they are good enough for us (quizzical look into the middle distance).
  12. Dremel (or even a file or an angle grinder) and a cheap 2' rule. Mark fret positions and grind notches.
  13. Vole - Celine Dion (Its an anagram thing)
  14. Have you tried just using the two 500mA outlets with a single current doubler?
  15. I have just purchased a cheap kit from Amazon on the basis that my 25 year old Ibanez is ready to be retired and just needs a small amount of work to maybe get another few years out of it.
  16. Yes that's the plan. Re-route for the L-1000 position. I'm new to wood working, but I think I can knock together a routing template. It shouldn't be too difficult to calculate the edge radius of the MFDs and get it neat (he says, with confidence 😆). I'm hoping to share info and measurements as I go, as there doesn't seem to be a lot out there. Let's see how far I get and I'll let you know if the spare MFD is up for sale 😀
  17. In any case usually loose wires are spotted when your guitarist/keyboard player keeps cutting out in the middle of the gig.
  18. No mate, I meant it's absolutely an opinion 😂 I was agreeing with your statement.... Having a rough morning? "and the "I'd say" confirms it as opinion." No it doesn't, it means that it's the truth as far as my knowledge extends. I am a fallible human with a limited brain capacity, after all. Please feel free to educate me and tell my why I'm wrong instead of being facetious ☺️
  19. Should have said, happy to ship to UK
  20. In very good condition and excellent working order. Great sounding amp with 3 preamp valves and lightweight (2.7kg) Plenty of spec on the web. Comes with original box and gig bag. Welcome to trial here through my speakers or yours. Collection preferred but can be packaged well for delivery if required and you are happy to accept the small risk at cost. Cheers Geoff (WV14 West Midlands)

  21. I've tried getting in there as I live in Cas, but their rates were a bit crap for our five-piece (£200 + a bucket handed round is what they suggested to me). It's a shame as I'd love to have a gig only five minutes down the road.
  22. Hard to choose. If not something by early Chicago with Peter Cetera or 70's Doobies with Tiran Porter I think it would have to be: Guy Pratt on the phenomenal 'Toy Matinee' album:

  24. I'm scaling down my bass collection and so letting go of this Vintera Jazz bass in fiesta red. Bought in 2024 as B stock from Bax. As a vintera it has reverse tuners and the original strings are still on. It's in great condition, I only gigged it a few times. There is a little mark on the top of the headstock as shown and the truss rod adjustment needs the proper tool so I bought one and its included in the sale along with a gear 4 music tweed case. Cash on collection from either Ashby or Hull area.

  25. I'll echo this for my Z7 5 that just arrived...it also also need a good setting u...., i learnt long ago to throw away any cream cheese allen keys that come with guitars/basses and bought a full boxed set of hardened steel imp/metric keys , you can get these for about £10, these days, they get used and put right back in the case so i don't have to hunt them down to the bottom of the tool box! I have to say i do really like the Sire Z7 - 5 & after a setup/oil and fret polish it's an amazing feeling/sounding bass and is way way better than many basses that i've paid x3-4 more for in the past...the only neg's for me are over all weight and neck drive when sitting (due to the way to short lower horn, even on the 2nd gen)...both thigs mean it's going to be on the 4 sale block over the weekend.. shame because it really is a great bass
  26. This popped up on my YouTube feed yesterday . I don’t know who the bass player is doing the demos . She has a lot of knowledge, while going through many basses . I immediately thought of the ME-50 B which hasn’t really been out that long . Similar price too it seems . As a person who practices at home these days and records stuff on GarageBand, this seems good . I don’t know how fiddly this would be to use in terms of menu diving etc. The ME50b is more bulky ( downside ) but seems straightforward otherwise . It looks like the GX-1B would be usb powered like the zoom B3 unlike the ME50 B which needs to be run on batteries or 9v power supply . Does the GX1 B have a looper ? It’s good that both of the units mentioned can be controlled by the Boss apps if that floats . I don’t think I’d bother though as it means more menu diving .
