Not many info about this bass, but this is what the previous owner got: "The bass has no labels in it, but I’ve asked around, and I understand that it’s probably an East German “Musima” model from the 1970s or possibly a pre-Strunal Aria Excelsior imported to the UK by Boosey & Hawkes. It belonged to a lady Music Teacher who taught the playing of stringed instruments. She sold it to me as she was retiring and moving to Birmingham, and, whilst she had the bass for over 40 years, she only now had room for her violin, viola, and her cello." So, few marks here and there but it is a lovely sounding instrument, laminated with blond finish. Ultra low action and setup with Thomastik Superflexible. Soft as butter, but if you push too hard will have a light buzz on low B and C. Comes with a really good wheeled gig bag, French bow (old, unmarked, black hair), stand, a clip on mic+external phantom power. Can deliver it at buyers expenses up to 2h driving from Rotherham. Would consider a fender P bass as p.ex up to £600 Thanks for reading.

I used to play acoustic guitar in a band, decades ago. The best thing I bought was a dedicated acoustic guitar amp, the difference it made to my/our sound was amazing and it wasn’t expensive, a Carlsboro Sherwood IIRC. Used as normal backline, I didn’t need to worry about feedback, with it being behind me and, raised up, it was a great monitor. Something like this might be just the job, especially as it has a DI out (1/4” jack though 🤔). https://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/product/171019315741004--laney-la30d-combo-acoustic-amp

LFSys and Barefaced Questions - Super Compact, Monaco and Monza?
Linus27 replied to Linus27's topic in Amps and Cabs
Thank you @cetera @stevie and @eude for the super helpful replies. From what you say, the Monza will probably be my best bet as I really don't need a lot of volume and I do like portability. My band is a singer playing acoustic, drummer with brushes and myself on fretless so not loud. For some of the smaller gigs, I even use my Warwick Gnome 300 through an 8ohms TC Electronic 208 which gives me a tone closer to what I'm after, it's just the occasional larger gigs I'd take the MB LM and BF Two10. What's more important to me is clarity, depth, richness and I guess fullness. My tone and playing is very much in the vein of Pino or John Giblin rather than a loud rock bassist or a funky bassist. If anything, closer to Jazz so articulate but certainly not nasal sounding like Jaco. Warm, rich, punchy and clean. Sounds like a Monza is on the cards in the new year. Despite Monaco being my favourite F1 race, I proposed to my wife on the grid at the 2006 Monza F1 race so I guess it make sense to go for the Monza 😄 Thanks for the advice everyone. -
Its always gone on. Sponsorship, not necessarily signature instruments, that's a more recent phenomena with mass production making it simple to do a run of 1000 instruments all exactly the same. Certainly bands sponsored by strings companies, some BassChatters have got free strings for tours etc. I imagine Paul McCartney got given a fair few basses.

Have any of you GP-5 owners been able to record some of the fx and amp and cab sims to give us a sense of how decent the GP-5 is as a multi-fx?

So after 3 months of waiting it’s arrived, I custom ordered a Precision Bass by Luca at Alnus Basses. (Insert joke about name here) There wasn’t an awful lot of information about them on the web, so set about tracking down owners across social media outlets, general consensus was he made lovely basses. I’ve always wanted a lime green metallic P Bass but Fender custom shop prices were out of reach for me especially when buying blind. I contacted Luca and gave him the specs I wanted and went through step by step with him in regard to colour shades/pickguard colours etc. I liked the fact he made the necks and bodies out of raw materials rather than pre made husks of the shelf, all paint/relicing and pickups were done in house and I liked the thought of a bass being built in a lovely Italian village (My family originates from Italy so this was a little piece of Italy). So for the result, it’s beautifully made and very resonant! The colour may not be to everyone’s tastes but I’m really happy with it, it needed a little setup to get it how I wanted it and it’s lovely. Just waiting for amp to warm up before plugging it in, if the pickup isn’t my bag I have a couple laying around including a Fender PV60 and Seymour Duncan Quarterpound. I will more than likely fit a badass 2 bridge to it aswell which I have spare.

johnbiffa started following I Spot Pedal Power Supply and Pedaltrain Nano and case
-
The Pedaltrain Nano is the smallest Pedaltrain currently available and perfect for the absolutely bare essentials: a tuner, overdrive and delay. Even guitarists with bigger pedalboards can benefit from a Nano loaded with their most essential pedals so in a pinch you'll never be without your core tone shapers, even if you have to catch a plane to get to the gig! The soft case makes it very light and portable while offering protection to your pedals. Has served me well and is in good condition as is the case, moved up to a Templeaudio board hence reason for selling. Price includes postage

Rounds with a light overdrive works every time for me. Can't hurt to boost a little at around 200Hz either.

For sale is my TC Electronic GMajor-2 multi effects unit in fully working condition and updated to the latest firmware. Pictures show it in its usual rack home (rack not included). Although most of the standard effects are aimed at the guitarist I have found the compressor, gate, flanger, phaser and octaver (up and down) etc. to be very useable for bass. I can either factory reset before shipping or leave the presets I have created intalled. It has built in EQ, noise gate, compressor, reverbs, delays, wahs, octaver, tremolo, phaser, flanger etc each of which can be switched in / out from the front panel as required. I have been using this via my amps effects loop and found the compressor (and all the effects) just add their effect without changing the fundamental sound of the bass. Comes with original box and operating manual. You can use the unit in your DAW as well as with your bass / guitar etc. Patches can be easily selected from the front panel or attach a midi-pedal (I used a MidiMoose). There is also some Vyzor software you can download from the net which allows you to interface your PC with the GMajor-2 to edit and backup your user patches. I have also attached the GMajor-2 and Vyzor manuals below. tc_electronic_g-major_2_manual_english.pdfVyzor_G-Major2_Quick-Start.pdf I estimate UK shipping about £10 to £15.

Thank you for sharing that. I am so used to bass guitars and my Boss TU2 footpedal, and my 30 year old acoustic guitar without an inbuilt tuner, that I hadn't realised that acoustic guitar technology had moved on. @Jack ignore my anachronistic comments about tuners. But i think that the guitarist should go old-school with a 1970s beard, and a silver jumpsuit.

Well, I don't know the Hartwood. I do know the Harley Benton and that is absolutely excellent. Even the pickups are fine. It's not available in black ATM but if the colour isn't a huge issue, you can go for a seafoam green or daphne blue one. I'd definitely go for the HB. -
Hey there, thanks for asking. I'm going to be honest and say that the solid resin core necks don't offer any weight saving vs wood. I can make them lighter but then they become more resonant which means they might not sound as good...or they will need more R&D to offer lightweight and stay sounding fat. Fingerboards typically affect the metallic sounds in string attack, like fret noise, say 1.2Khz and above depending on other materials. If your standard for timbre is a maple neck then you could try a maple fingerboard on our necks and make sure the body has a significant proportion of maple (ideally softer maple) in it. Then you might still preserve some of those compressed qualities but with the advantages of graphite. EDIT: The best sounding bass I own is all maple - the Spector NS5CR. It's warm but not woofy, it's bright but not brittle and there is a little compression to the highs. So I totally get where you're coming from.

Do you limit yourself to a single brand of pedal?
SumOne replied to Jean-Luc Pickguard's topic in Effects
I did do a board of Boss compact pedals, it was quite addictive tryting to get the colourful collection. The Boss compact hardware is really good and I found there are certain pedals that Boss do really well: Tuner, compressor, limiter, chorus, flanger, octaver, space echo, and the BB1-X. .....but then I wasn't such a fan of things like the AW-3, SY-1, GEB-7, ODB-3, there are better (often cheaper) alternatives . So once I started using some other pedals (e.g. MXR envelope filter instead of the AW-3, Sine FX parametric EQ instead of the GEB-7 ) the whole idea sort of went out of the window. -

For my band and previous band where we were a trio of musicians playing rock I made sure my bass sound was Full and loud so when guitarist soloed it sounded full as a band I play with a pick on a PBass and don’t need fx etc and learn to palm mute for quieter parts and let rip for loud parts. A good amp and decent cabs are all you need in my opinion and play like a bass / rhythm guitarist !
