  1. Past hour
  2. I've depped regularly and i used to be really good at remembering songs with no cheat sheets I learned 30 songs by The Jam for a dep many years ago, I had 2 weeks to do it but the shortest notice was for a band I'd done a few deps for but I got a call whilst eating my roast dinner abiut 6 pm. 'help, our bass player's car wont start and he's not coming. ' It was a 6.30 start, gig was 15 minutes away these days, i do use cheat sheets, especially when I dep with ska/mod/new wave/punk chaps, as they always ask me to learn something I haven't played before it's all usually great fun
  3. https://www.andertons.co.uk/hils-hnb3-headless-shortscale-bass--satin-black/ At £499, it may depend on your definition of "the cheaper side".
  4. A very specific one. The electric mountain bike club who yesterday passed me twice while I was riding my non electric bike up hill and then hold me up at walking pace on a downhill trail where I should have been enjoying the reward of the uphill slog by enjoying the high speed jumps, drops, twisties and rocks.
  5. Always up for some jolly cooperation
  6. Heavy Cloud, No Rain - Sting
  7. Long story short I'm looking at picking up a smaller bass to bring with me on a tram and a couch ride (to and from work) to get to practice. I want to keep it on the cheaper side so no mayones mini bass here. If I can order it direct the better as waiting for a 2nd hand item local is a pain. Debating between the following 1. Harley benton pb shorty 30" scale 2. J&d short scale bass 29" scale 3. Flight mini bass 3 u bass I'm not sure if the difference of 30 Vs 29 inch scales would impact string choice either. Is there anything I haven't thought of?
  8. I remember trying to get a band to learn Robben Ford’s version of Chevrolet (which is absolutely brilliant) and it was a chore. When we played it live once, they messed it up and we never did it again.
  9. I've only had beneficial "mistakes". Actually I think they were upgrades for out of stock items. I ordered the cheapest drum stool they had and was sent a rather nice Pearl one instead. Along with a much better set of headphones than the ones I ordered. That was a good couple of years ago though and I haven't ordered from them for a while.
  10. Dont worry, I’m exaggerating for comic effect and I’ve done lots and lots of these gigs before and the setlist will be pretty much the same. A lot of it is bluegrass-style stuff which is all based on a similar format and a healthy dose of improvisation. In fact, that’s why they book me I guess. It’s very much like jazz in that you’re often given the chord structures and improvise a line around the changes, rather than a party band that has spent years developing all the arrangements etc.
  11. Hi. Yes, I do. It gets regular use in my main band. I have a buffer fitted, to throttle back the output of the piezo pickup. I'm not a huge fan of the Lace Sensor pickup but I use the piezo primarily. They're nice and light and very versatile. I'd love to have a sunburst, fretted one but no justification for the purchase.
  12. Superb quality padded hotcovers protection for the Markbass 801 combo. It is in great condition. Price includes InPost locker postal service within England, Scotland and Wales.
  13. All Dried Up - Phantogram
  14. Paul bought my Laney Digbeth head. He paid within minutes of us agreeing the deal and was kind enough to let me know the head arrived safely. Deal in absolute confidence!
  15. Today
  16. Do you still have the one with f holes next to the CAR Aerodyne Steve? Been looking for one of these for a while now, wondered what you think of them. There’s one of them on eBay at the moment but it’s in Japan. 😕 I missed out on a blue Aerodyne a few years ago. Great build quality and finish although I found the bound body a bit uncomfortable on my forearm. Haven’t seen one since!
  17. Still looking ...
  18. NB: I work in London two days a week so I could bring the bass to EC2 if someone wanted to try it.
  19. I use mine with both the ultra high and ultra low buttons engaged and it's the punchiest amp I've ever heard.
  20. Hi all, Haven’t played this in a long time and bills/back to school needs-must. Beautiful Taylor acoustic from 2008 (the 5th one built on 7th July according to the serial number). Excellent condition, a couple of very minor ‘impacts’ which I’ve tried to photograph, but nothing to write home about. The Taylor hard case is in equally good condition with all clasps working perfectly. I don’t have any boxes/packaging to post this, so collection/meet-up preferred. Any other questions, just ask 🙂 Si

  21. If its the wedding scene its easy. I once did a dep gig where 3 out the 5 band members were deps. The gig waa far from flawless but yet folk were up dancing all night and we got great feedback.
  22. If the drummer isn't signaling changes for you he's probably another dep. Eyes on drummer, ears on rhythm guitar. The good ones will walk you into chord changes not even knowing they are doing it.
  23. Just back from Stourbridge town hall where I played with the Phil Collins tribute, lovely old place and the audience and atmosphere were brilliant, decided on the GB Spitfire tonight, put lighter gauge strings on as a bit of an experiment. Had to push the low mids on the Tecamp puma and dial off a bit of the bottom end as it was sounding a bit ‘flubby’ , not tight and punchy how i like it, but after a good sound check everything was fine and nicely cut through as the show went along. My LFSYS Monza was fab as usual. Not very rock’n roll but enjoying a nice cuppa and a couple of bits of toast after a long drive back to West Sussex.
  24. Boss have always been a odd one, somehow they've managed to be one of the biggest companies in guitar effects while rarely being anyone's favourite. I say this as a owner of the gt-1000 core. Maybe it's being based in Asia so being informed by a player market that's probably as far away form the Anglophone world as possible. Maybe it's just being such a big corporate beast. I really can't see this while licensed plugin formate taking. It will be interesting as they say these are brand new algorithms what their next iteration of multi's and modellers look like.
  25. Hate depping, was traumatised by a stressful experience sitting in with a blues band that played Robben Ford songs. They weren't straight forward I-IV-V songs, they had sudden key changes, stops and starts and changes in time signature. I had two weeks to learn 14 songs along with all the little details that they contained and barely managed to keep it together. Didn't manage to screw up enough to stop the rest of the band from playing or miss a key but it was a struggle. The band were really kind but I'm no Lee Sklar sitting in with Toto.
