I found that really interesting. The valve ( tube) compliment on the old version doesn't mention the 6k11 compactron valve that drives the mid circuit. What valve does that job in the new model? I've owned a couple of v4Bs, of the valve amps I had they worked well for me, paired with a Marshall vbc412 in particular.

So the current consensus seems to be that the Ventures are apparently reliable, and get the V12 because the V7 is potentially a bit underpowered. Got it.

I'm 50 and I've just taken Voluntary Exit after 24 years with the same outfit, moving round the world and largely being carefree. My daughter is 18 and struggling to work out what to do but has settled for the moment on studying speech therapy because she wants to do something that helps people. My son is 15 and has had to drop out of school education because there is noone doing Cambridge qualifications in Bolivia, which is where we are going mainly because the UK is just too expensive to go into. How is this me,me,me relevant? Well, firstly I could have stayed on and come back to the UK but I realised that the politics and nonsense and the direction of things had outweighed the joy I got from supporting and developing the people in my teams. I have no idea what is coming (other than homeschooling my boy to try and get him 5 GCSEs!) and there is definitely a big dollop of guilt / concern that I should have stayed for the stability but life's too short to be surrounded by the fallout from incompetent people covering up their own failures and insecurities by attacking others and being drawn into it. I've not been in a band for a long time but it does sound familiar.... Another big element was not wanting to come back to present day England. Every time I have come back over the past 10 years or so it's seemed there is a growing sense of dissatisfaction and passive (or not so passive) aggression across the board. Obviously there are islands of sanity and decency but the bickering over minutiaee Andy describes sounds totally unsurprsing. I love North Kent and it's etched in my heart but I don't want bad vibes to drain that love and it sounds like Andy is making exactly that decision - get away to keep the kernel of what you love about making music alive. We've moved every 2-4 years for the last 25 years and there is definitely a cycle of catharsis getting shot of the crap we've built up. I wonder if that has stopped me having any of the other cycles so many people have described here. Maybe these cycles are a natural part of life and staying sane in a modern world where we don't need to graft to get food on a daily basis. Long rambling post but I say good on you, Andy. Don't get stuck in the rut or make decisions that are positive, not avoiding possible negatives. You sound like you have a very full life outside of the band and it doesn't need to define you. Luckily for me, I'm now out of buying mode, but I'll enjoy watching the circus!

No-one was complaining because it was a six string - merely commenting on how said six string was used.

Hello everyone. Here is my 1966 Fender Precision Bass. It is of very original quality and most of the fittings are still the original. I would call this a player’s bass and it is geaared towards someone who wants to take the bass out and play it. I will come cleean right up here at the top. I have known and played this bass since about 2002, a friend bought it so I would have a bass to play when I went to visit. He recently passed and I have recieved the bass because he left it to me. I love it, it hangs on the wall here and I try to play it when I can. However, I really am a Jazz Bass devoted player, and my main bass is actually a double bass. I am conflicted about selling the bass. Part of me feels like I am supposed to keep it forever and maybe pass it on to my son who is also a bass player, or else sell it and move on, I want someone to be playing this bass and I think that means selling it. (Don't worry about my son, he already has my 1974 Jazz Bass so he's doing all right) So, about this 1966 Fender Precision. I had a couple folk look at the bass and here are the relevant points. We believe the paint is not original but it was painted a long time ago. It has been this color since at least 2000 and while I thought it was an Olympic White, I believe it is really Daphne Blue? Again, not my field of expertise. It is obviously also missing the ashtray. I have been told the scratch plate is not original and I really don’t know about the pickups but they are splayed open to view in the photographs where you can almost see the date codes. The bits that are not ‘vintage’ are also the bits, to me, that have changed to make the bass work onstage and in the studio. I can also tell you the neck is brilliant and the intonation is spot on. When I first started playing the bass it buzzed and crackled terribly. We repaired some poor wiring and foil lined the cavities and that made it useable. We could also see these were not the original pots or wiring, and that is something that ‘vintage’ purchasers are looking for. In fact I have an extra set of 500k pots from Russia that I will include with the purchase, because I think the existing pots are not very good making the bass sound darker than it probably really is. Video Demo, follow this link to my Youtube 90 second bass summary. - - - Video of the bass Important Points to Consider directly bearing on the sale: I am happy to try and answer questions but I am a bassist, not a collector, I’ll do my best. I am based just outseid Edinburgh in Scotland and the sale price I am asking does not include postage and shipping. Depending on who and where you are, it may be just as well to come visit and try the instruments. I recently sold my Sadowsky to someone in the USA and it was expensive and stressful to get it to him. The final UPS shipping bill was about £280.00 including appropriate insurance, and that included an extra £26 I had to pay because the box was 2cm longer than I claimed on the riginal shipping contract - you live and learn eh!? So the price of shipping is to be born by the purchaser and while I am happy to ship if you want, I think it is so much better to come and collect it. I might even drive to Newcastle and meet you there for the price of a tank of fuel. Anyways, its something we can have a chat about. The email in the pictures is my second email and is following the Basschat guide of trying to make sure someone doesn't clone this listing and try to scam someone, that woudn't be cool. Cheers, have a look around, get in touch. Tom

I loved that clip exactly because it was played on a six string! I have been using instruments with six strings, both fretted and without, for a long time. It is so strange how some folks view these basses. They seem OK with a five string but a six gives them pause. For me, a six gives me a wider range of fingerings but it is still primarily a BASS!! Yes it would have been better if she had dropped down to the lower strings - possibly played the passage an octave down to demonstrate the handling of the amplifier but many 'soloists' on our instrument chose to play in the upper registers. I don't know why as the last thing I am is a soloist!

Apparently all BV's go through it (me and guitarist) and he's louder, but noisier, than me. To be fair, as it was my first time singing with them, I was holding back a lot.
