  2. Hey u bass players. How long do a set of aquila strings last? I'm debating one of the bamboo u bass from thomann for easy transport.
  3. Nice! I didn't know they'd done the Kelly shape as a bass, I've only ever seen the Kellybird Thunderbird inspired models. Balance always seems to be a bit of an issue with these explorer type basses, but they certainly look the part.
  4. What's the weight of this please... is it 34" or 35" scale?
  5. I can lend you a butter knife and you could go at it like Jaco, if you like.
  6. Hi there, which spacing did you go for/what's the standard spacing? Cheers
  7. I had one of those, also about 25 years ago (crikey, how am I that old?!). It does give Tom Daley a run for his money, but looks amazing - like an Explorer on speed.
  8. That would be great thanks 👍🏻 Here's the link to my Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/share/1HxMyuT1Me/
  9. At least 25 years ago - so that might've been before I was born!
  10. I'm just asking out of curiosity but is that to check if the battery connector is shorting? Or would that check if there's a short in the circuit as a whole?
  11. I saw Kenny Wayne Shepherd a year or so ago in a proper concert venue with normally great sound. Christ he was so stupidly loud we joined people walking out half way through the first set. A similar thing with Joe Satriani although we did last until the interval.
  12. Of course they did. Things don't stand still, but with all the flaws, issues and competition, Fender Strats, P basses and Jazz basses still form the bulk of the instruments I see being used on gigs and on TV. I now play 2 FSO's. Fender designs with all the wrinkles ironed out and taken to the next level. I couldn't be happier.
  13. I really need to make some space and this feature packed combo needs to go as it hasn’t been used for a long time. I’ve owned it from new and I think it must be about 20 years old. It has only been used in the house and never pushed to anything like its limit. For me, it is plenty loud enough on about quarter volume! It's got a whole load of loops of every different music style, some nine different amp models you can select such as Fender Bassman, upright, Ampeg, TE and a super distorted one and the built in backing with or without drums so you can play along to songs in the specially created method book. You can add effects to the sound with overdrive, fuzz, flange, phaser, chorus, way, delay and more. There is a three band eq, built in tuner (very useful) headphone and aux-in. It also has a tilt back facility which is great. The 100 page method book with it has all the songs, loops and scales written out in tab and proper musical notation. It does far more than I've listed here and would make a really good starter amp to encourage playing and learning. Unfortunately the cat got its claws into the carpet covering many moons ago - I now have a generic slip on dust cover which at least adds a first line of defence! Due to the odd shape (due to the tilt back facility) I would much prefer collection in person, which would also allow any buyer to check out some of the numerous features.
  14. Forgot about Len stiles, my first job was a stones throw from there so often had a lunchtime browse in there. There was also gigsounds in Streatham and Wing music in Sidcup.

  16. This is an excellent point. Not sure what that says about us though as a species 🤔

  18. trade with Tobias Classic 6 year 2007.
  19. Are you sure about the neck-through? Looks like a set neck to me.
  20. I got one of the purple ones from Andertons a couple years ago. I bought a set of Bass VI Newtone rounds at the same time because I'd heard bad things about the stock strings and I was prepared to buy a new bridge to sort out the widely reported intonation issues. However when it arrived I quickly decided that it was fine as stock, it even took me over a year of playing it pretty much every day to put the new strings on it. The E string on the old set required a fairly gently touch, hit it too hard and it would choke out because of the low tension, but nothing that really required a big change in my picking style. The new strings, when I finally got round to fitting them sorted that, although they did make the trem a fair bit stiffer it's still completely usable, although I use it in a fairly subtle way to add a bit of vibrato. I'm not trying to do dive bombs with it. Played through my HX stomp with a ton of reverb and a touch of compression it gives me exactly the baritone 'surf' tones I bought it for. All in all one of my better purchases, I guess maybe I just got a bit lucky or the specs on that particular FSR run were slightly different to the earlier models that most of the online negativity is directed towards.
  21. Agreed. Especially the current cost cutting models like the Ultra II's with their skunk stripe and top mounted truss rod adjuster, the same as a Mexican bass or Squier.
  22. I have recently (re)acquired an SB301 from the friend that I sold it to a good few years ago. It's dated '91 and the electrics have really had their day - I don't know what he's done to it but the wiring is pretty brittle and a lot of the soldering is pretty poor. EDIT: And now that I've checked, the rest of the bass is pretty rough too. There's a massive bow in the neck and it won't tune at all. I think this needs more work than it's worth (or that I'm able to do) so I think I'll just strip it for parts - it has a Roland GK-3B, some nice Entwistle pickups, the Gotoh tuners still look good and I daresay someone might appreciate the body and be able to do something about the neck....
  23. I was lucky enough to find one of the 5 string version here in NZ - an excellent instrument, I like the 2EQ Stingrays GWLTS
