The Short Scale Bass Appreciation Society!
Adee replied to Baloney Balderdash's topic in Bass Guitars
Not flashed off my pair of Lionels together. The blue one I added a clear scratchplate so you can see more of that gorgeous finish and an EMG Geezer Butler, I found the stock a bit sterile and was lacking something, the GZR is spot on, so much so that I took the 2 band active out of the cream Larry and put an Ivory GRZ It just wasn’t sitting the mix and felt a bit lost but the EMG punches thru nicely. The third knob is just a dummy … I’ve got an EBMM Stingray Short Scale in Starry Night, it looks the nutz but just doesn’t beat the Lionel Bergs!! -

That's not how I read it, but could be wrong. Higher-end basses seem to be having a moment again right now - was at an all-day show this past Saturday, and there was one Fender, all day, out of ten bands. Three bands in a row had bass players with Spectors! And there was a now-ubiquitous Dingwall NG3, a couple of MMs and an Ibby or two. Status could be well-placed to take advantage of this if they could get production back up to speed, but that would require them to have a production partner. I've noticed some of their name players drifting off to other brands too, which is a bit sad. Obviously Mark King is back on his Jaydees these days, Venturella still plays his, but he's increasingly seen playing others, and the latest I've seen is German pickmeister Hellmut Hattler, who is now playing a Warwick (white, PJ, Kahler trem, just like his Status). Just waiting for Wolstenholme to jump ship, at this point.

Immaculate condition and amazing sounding pedal that’s also very bling! Original box and paperwork also included. Designed in collaboration with Darkglass Electronics, the 35th Anniversary drive pedal goes full stealth with a black and gold colour scheme and a special 35th Anniversary logo box. Aside from the engage switch (which illuminates a very cool LED) and the usual in/out and DC power sockets, the pedal has three controls – level, drive and tone. As with all Darkglass pedals, you also get true bypass switching, a particularly hard-wearing footswitch and a super-bright LED. While this is a stompbox capable of some impressive high gain sounds, it’s been designed to be equally effective at lower, more classic levels of drive and to be sensitive to bass playing dynamics. “We’ve blended old-school vibes, appealing visuals and some modern production techniques to create a pedal that has much more versatility than you might have assumed,” said Sheldon Dingwall. “It’s really been designed to capture the dynamic interaction between you and your bass. There’s plenty of dynamic range before the crunch really sets in.” The result is a wide range of tonal possibilities from subtly distorted blues tones through to classic rock and metal. This is the perfect stompbox for Dingwall aficionados looking for something with plenty of future collectable prestige. £100

@tony_m Very glad to hear the Trace is still alive and kicking and doing what it does best 👍

Thanks Neil! Seems like someone was able to isolate the bass in this video so we can make out what’s in sequences 7 & 8!

Could I also add that I’d like the vinyl pressing of ‘Californication’ to be remastered so that it’s a bit quieter - I have to add an extra half gram to my stylus whenever I listen to it to stop it jumping! -
I found that asking Google "What's bigger than an Elf?" was really, really unhelpful.

Surprised that the vendor now wants £400 for a bass with such a shocking defret job. That bass needs at least a couple of hundred quid spent on it before it would even pass a basic hygiene test.- 12 replies

The remixed versions of the early ZZ Top albums were atrocious. The added reverb sucked all the life out of the songs. -
I had an active deluxe precision special in seafoam green from around 2011, which was rumoured to have come from the factory with a Geddy Lee neck as production had just moved to Mexico. The preamp stopped working so I changed all of it for EMGs and a BTS system which began my love of EMGs and how easy they were to install
