First Gig of the year for our six piece, centre of Hull. we have a residency there- once a month ( residencies have changed over the years ! ) Our Dep drummer did great and was a great change having a drummer that actually speaks. My thoughts were that it was going to be a quiet night but seems most of the punters in the Town centre noticed we were on and a full house was experienced by the band. We all played great and after a good soundcheck sounded spot on. Some good comments on my Bass tone- first gig with my Origin Bassrig 15. Sounded epic with my fender Jazz Ultra 5 string. Should be a good gig this one, easy to load in and park, which after doing this for 40 plus years is a real positive!

Buy a 3 strings bass, or start a D-A-D cover band. 😂😉 Funny as it's often the opposite, the thicker string being used as a thumb rest... Strange that you find that the notes normally played on the G string sound better on the D string as they lack depth and harmonics (you can't change the laws of physics). That said, if it suits your needs and playing, why bother except for that unused string you throw away at each strings changing. Perhaps, just buy 3 new separate strings instead of a full set or ask Newtone to make you 3 strings sets. PS: I've always used all the strings on my sixer (fretless) basses, but that's the way I play and I guess that's certainly why I exclusively play piano now as I wasn't a frustrated guitarist, but a frustrated pianist. 🤦🏻🤪😂

Unless, of course, it's Mudvayne... And I tend to use the G string all the time. It's useful for excessive widdling.

I’ve never seen one advertised at less than 4.3kg - I window shopped them for 18 months before buying mine (and promptly traded it a fortnight later! This is the bass that taught me a hard lesson in making sure you’ve played one before buying one! 🤣)

I like the general look of the two shown here, but I'm very much of the mindset that if the body design is asymmetrical then this needs to follow through to the headstock design (a la Gibson EB3) and conversely if the body design is offset, then then a Fenderesque is fine.
