  1. Past hour
  2. I bailed on my band a few years ago. It was a very successful pro function / wedding outfit, and I’d been with them for 15 years. We did a lot of prestige gigs/venues, but there were always issues within it’s members, ranging from conflicting work schedules through to drink and drug problems ( not mine!). Anyway, I was approached by some friends who were in a tribute band who asked me to dep for their bassist who was sadly having major health issues. I stepped in and did quite a few gigs with them, until unfortunately their bassist passed away. I was then asked to join full time, but my loyalties lay with the function band, so I reluctantly declined. I helped them recruit a new player, and I thought that was the end of that. Then around 15 months later I got a call from them again, as the new guy had decided it wasn’t for him. To be honest, I’d regretted turning them down the first time so jumped at the opportunity. My old band by now were falling apart, with fewer gigs and other significant problems, so I bailed - gave them a month’s notice and that was it. The new band were quite the opposite - all lovely people, professional and organised etc and it immediately turned out to be the right decision. The old band finally spluttered to a halt, whilst I had a great 15 years on the road with a fantastic band, all of them memorable. After that I had to (reluctantly) retire from touring, and gave them a year’s notice! We found a great player to replace me, and I still keep in touch with them. Nowadays I still play, just more locally - mainly in an acoustic duo with my best mate, and some dep gigs. Sometimes things do work out for the best. 😊
  3. Yes, I recognise what he did for the electric bass, but like he said he played it as a toy. On the acoustic upright…something else!
  4. too much for me, I'm out lol
  5. A few on there I quite like but most a bit too blingy for me.
  6. I just heard back from Neil @ Newtone. He says put a sharp bend in the string before cutting (they're round core), but as you say BigRedX, it'd help if this advice was printed on the pack. Next job is to fight with the somewhat odd and not easily adjustable bridge on the Tanglewood/Overwater. P
  7. Good job I'm not a U2 fan. Not sure my bank account could take it! This one of those situations where the maker (Warwick or Fender, etc) supply several identical basses for a tour, and the player obviously cherry picks the best ones from the batch. These are obviously the surplus ones that probably got played a couple of times, or were kept as backups. (Apart from the 60s Fender, of course!)
  8. Probably showing my ignorance here. The truss rod tool looks to be the hex type, which I would have expected only on a truss rod adjusted at the headstock end. There is no sign of it there on the bass being offered.
  9. Not sure about the bath robe 🤮
  10. To be honest I struggled to give the thread an adequate witty title. I know it’s sort of based on a J, but it’s sort of difficult to describe!
  11. I've heard that Ice-T is going to join the party...
  12. Saw him live with Jean-Luc Pony and Al di Meola in an a fully acoustic gig, so Stanley Clarke on double bass all concert long, something like 30 years ago, and it ended up with speed race on School Days. Amazing how jast he coud play this tune on double bass ... using the chords for the main main riff.
  13. FWIW I don’t think it’s a squeer knockoff …
  14. "Oh, Marion" Paul Simon Gadd and Jackson greatness
  15. He may not know mine were pretty good
  16. Same here Daryl, i'm just a bass player 😂 Dave
  17. Pinged you a message Kev.
  18. Adam Clayton is moving on some of his basses and other bits and bobs. They are, unsurprisingly, not cheap 😅 https://www.juliensauctions.com/en/auctions/played-worn-torn-2025
  19. Yeah, I forgot this excellent album, I'll listen to it later, after the 3 CDs I've just received...
  20. Agreed, and I wouldn't buy that particular bass, because - and I know it's not hard evidence - the images feel wrong, I can't say what it is, but given that the serial number also doesn't check out plus the seller has already provided some misinformation, I would assume that while it's not a forgery as per Andy's previous comment (why bother when for the same costs you could forge Pre-CBS Fenders), I still suspect it may not be what it is presented as. Case candy etc? Not beyond the realms of possibility that someone could buy the real thing with case and case candy, and then slip a lookalike bitsa in the case and sell it on, I've heard less plausible theories turning out to be true Not saying it's not the real thing BTW, I am saying that I certainly wouldn't buy it given the photos and details provided.
  21. Cheers John, I’ll certainly take you up on that coffee, but I’ve spoken with the venue and they can provide either a split or individual IEM mixes from their desk with personal control so immediate problem solved 😎
  22. 100% this ^
