the other possibility would be grey primer, like on the truckster, but WITHOUT the relic job. and i'd add a few clear coats, to make it a glossy finish.

be careful about matte finishes (like stealth):
it may look good in the first week, but later on, the bass will be polished where you touch it often, and will be matte where you don't touch too much.
it doesn't look that good in my opinion...
MPO is that it wouldn't look right if it was just a glossy finish but i do agree about the problems with flat finishes. I think you can buy clearcoats that are specifically designed to not gloss up like that though.
UPDATE!
No real updates. My dissertation has been handed in, but now i have my final exams. Maybe more updates beginning of June.

Slight colour change. Again i wont give away what i have chosen!

Decided to fill in the current pup rout with shaped wood and redo the rout closer to the MM sweet spot area.

Bump, finally got the paint mix i was after! Took ages due to a certain property which i wanted in the paint itself, trying to find a water based paint with this particular property was pretty hard!

Anyway, spraying will begin this week!

The P rout had to be moved over as the EMG D and G part of the pup wouldnt cover the strings fully.

Well, here it is! Second coat has gone on, needs a few more.

Its brighter in real life and has blacklight properties much like the DR Neons.

Interesting, I was musing over a paint scheme for one of the spectors using neon paint with the same properties. I sidelined the idea after learning that the glow effect tends to fade over time with exposure to UV. Its possible to use a UV guard in any clear coat but it then blocks the reflectivity.

really nice !

by the way:
i don't think the color will fade with the UV-lights on stage.
guess to make the glow effect fade the color would have to stay in direct sunlight for years, but the UV-lights that are used on stage and at home aren't real UV but very dark blue. so i guess it would keep the glow effect.

...and also discolours the overall finish as no UV resistant clear coat is 100% clear.

You should probably change the title of this thread from "Butchering a Pedulla MVP5" to "How to make a Pedulla MVP5 even more awesome".
Or maybe just "Hulk Smash MVP5" would do.

Seriously though mate, that looks really really good, can't wait to see it finished! :)

You can find out earlier in the thread! All was explained.
Nice. That's going to be quite a looker when finished!

Green LEDs anybody?
I would love green LEDS but i assume the fingerboard would have to come off of the bass to get them fitted, which would damage the paintwork?

A note on the paint, its VERY hard to get an even coat on it, if even one bit is missing or uneven, or darker, you cant just strip the finish back around that patch, because it leaves a dark patch. Even when you respray over the darker patch it still a different shade to the rest of the body! The last coat had to be done in one go, with no mistakes, no running.

I was thinking of just putting some bright green plastic inlays in, instead.
