Mrbigstuff Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago I’m currently ampless in the bass department but have a rather nice black star guitar amp. I’m looking for an aesthetically pleasing small bass amp+ cab or combo to join it but I’m struggling a little. The look tends to be black tolex and coloured speakers, where coloured tolex and a nice cloth grill is what I’m after. Any suggestions for a combo or cab? Quote

chris_b Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago There is a great Aguilar TH500 and 2 x SL112 cabs in the Classifieds. Quote
BassmanPaul Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago In my mind a 50W bass amp is a toy, practice amp at best. I haven't used that little power in decades! I see nothing sexy about it. Quote
jezzaboy Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago I recently bought a Laney Digbeth 500 head and it`s damm sexy Sounds good as well. I also bought a Markbass MB58R 4 X 10 cab. I don`t know if I`m digging the usual MB look but at 16 kg for a 4 x 10 I`m willing to try. Quote
BassmanPaul Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago Your amp is rated at 500W not 50. You just proved my point, thank you. Quote

The OP asked for something small in an unusual colour. 50W Crush straddles the line between a practice amp and something for sedate jamming etc. I have bass amps at: 5W, 10W, 20W, 40W, 50W, 250W, 300W and 500W. They all have their places. My green anodised Joyo Badass at 50W is definitely sexy and goes well with my red PJB C4 cab. Edited 17 hours ago by Stub Mandrel Quote
BassmanPaul Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago I must admit that I consider the Ampeg B15NF that sits at the bottom of the stairs to my basement studio about as sexy as amps come. I love that thing! 1 Quote

I love that thing! But it's a toy you said? No validation for studio volumes? Something with a marvellous tone that can be micced on stage? Anyway, Hevos used to have some colour options. Laney has the lx15 in red, Phil Jones has some too. Tolexing in itself isn't that hard to do, or expensive. Quote
Downunderwonder Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago Barefaced do cloth grilles and custom tolex jobs. Trace Elliot green 210 with Elf on top? Quote
Stub Mandrel Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago GRBASS will do custom tolex as well. It's either free or cheap (the cabs aren't ! ) Quote
Mrbigstuff Posted 6 hours ago Author Posted 6 hours ago Thanks for the replies. I had considered orange but thought it would be too…. Orange. That purple one is definitely sexy though. I love Aguilar’s gear but it is overkill for my apartment. The Laney is a nice looker. My first bass amp when I was a teen was a Laney and it was weak as hell so I’ve always been a bit of a snob towards the brand but should see if I can try one of those. An original Ampeg B15 would be the dream! I’ve been looking at the micro ampeg VR stack as I think they’re pretty and power doesn’t really matter for at home. Ashdown, similar to the above have a nice looking micro stack. Tone is probably a bit warm for my tastes though. I used to have an ABM combo and traded it for Hartke gear that eventually got traded for Mark bass. Not heard of Hevos and can’t find anything online after a quick search? PJB is definitely a contender. Did not know Barefaced did requests. There’s a green colour in their ad on their website that would be perfect with a silver cloth grill. Will be seriously looking at their 110 or 210. Not heard of GR Bass, but they look really nice! Will be checking those out more for sure. Quote

The Ampeg Micro VR looks cool but apparently the fan is really noisy so it's not well suited to playing at home quietly. 1 Quote
Reggaebass Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago The ampeg PF50T is a lovely thing, not sure if it’s what you’re looking for but they are great for home practice and small venues, and mine is silent with no fan 1 Quote

ped Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago The Fender Bassman TV is a great sounding amp, and available in various sizes (10, 12, 15 and 2x10" configurations). Quite heavy, but if it's not getting moved much it's an interesting option. Quote

The B100R is a cool amp too, if you can find one. Quote

However if the OP just wants something aesthetically (and maybe tactile) pleasing what's wrong with taking an existing amp or cab and getting it recovered in the colour and texture of material you prefer? In the 90s I had a red fabric-covered rig that was a mixture home-made and commercially available cabinets that had been stripped and re-covered by myself. 1 Quote
Lozz196 Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago (edited) Ashdown did purple tolex speaker cabs for Geezer Butler a couple of weeks ago, imo made them look cool and rather forbidding - I dare say the look that Geezer had in mind. Edited 2 hours ago by Lozz196 Quote
