wateroftyne Posted July 8 Posted July 8 (edited) Continuing my post-midlife crisis 'straying from Precisions' period, I couldn't resist this absolute stunner over the weekend. Just... look at it. It's a 1998 model, and was actually the L-2000 they used in the catalogue that year. A couple of honest dings here an there, but otherwise spot-on. I'll be gigging it on Friday. Doctor J Posted July 8 Posted July 8 Probably my favourite bass of all, tonally, and that one is quite the looker. Well done. 1 Quote
80Hz Posted July 8 Posted July 8 Oh my goodness that birds eye maple! Your photos show this off really well. I saw the listing and was tempted myself. Let us know how the gig goes 😀 Quote
Sean Posted July 8 Posted July 8 That was for sale about 4 miles from me. I think that if the seller's photos had been half as good as yours, it would have sold fast. I had no idea the figuring was that good. It's a stunner. Quote
gjones Posted July 8 Posted July 8 I have an L2500 Tribute and it is the most versatile bass I've ever played. Enjoy the gig. Quote
jd56hawk Posted July 8 Posted July 8 (edited) I had to sell seven basses last year, but I just couldn't part with my L2000. You bought something special there. Edited July 8 by jd56hawk Quote
HeadlessBassist Posted July 9 Posted July 9 That is certainly a looker, WoT. Congrats on a stunning bass (with an interesting history, too!) Quote
BassApprentice Posted July 9 Posted July 9 I miss my 80's L2000 terribly. Was silly of me to sell it but that's life. It's baffling that G&L don't seem fussed about being in the UK market these days. Fantastic basses that offer something quite different from other brands and pretty competitive prices still. Maybe I'll pick up another in the future, but enjoy yours! It looks fantastic. 2 Quote
Rodders Posted July 9 Posted July 9 Look at that neck! Lovely. I have a Trib M2000 that I like but still getting used to, a Precision man usually like yourself @wateroftyne Quote
machinehead Posted July 9 Posted July 9 What a stunning looking bass! These are in the top 3 of my favourite sounding bass guitars. Enjoy it. (I know you will.) Frank. Quote
basshead56 Posted July 10 Posted July 10 (edited) I normally don't like maple on maple neck/fingerboard combos - that thing is OBSCENELY beautiful!!! I too am on a mid-life 'straying from Precisions path', mostly stuck on Jazzes and Rays. Always had a G&L on my radar but never found one I absolutely loved. I could see me falling in love with a bass like that though! Well done! If it plays half as good as it looks it'll be an absolute monster! Edited July 10 by basshead56 Quote

I'm always interested in how manufacturers and luthiers deal with binding edges on contoured bodies. I suppose in this case it's a bit easier since it's not actually binding but simply a line with the colour masked off/removed. 1 Quote
LeftyJ Posted July 10 Posted July 10 This thread should come with a NSFW warning, for that neck alone! Wow Quote
G-bitch Posted July 11 Posted July 11 I think everyone with G&L on a saved search knew which bass this was before opening the thread 😆 Not quite up my street aesthetically, but I remember thinking the price weren't bad for how 'exotic' it is. Quote
