How far have you travelled to pick up a Bass?

I just flew from Istanbul to Houston to get a birth year Rickenbacker.

 

I tell myself I did it to see family but that’s a lie.

Around 530km (1060 in total) to trade a Wal for a Wal!

From my hometown in the Netherlands to Hull, I booked a minicruise for it.

We swapped basses at a parking lot!

Not a bass, but my 1967 Gibson SG junior

I drove to newcastle upon tyne from Dover. It was a 700 mile round trip and I did it in a day (it was a long day)

400 miles to pick up my Warwick Streamer Stage 2 Broadneck 5. Best bass decision I've ever made especially seeing what they cost nowadays.

Back in the old country, I quite often would take a train to Dublin for picking stuff up (4-4.5hrs each way from Tralee).

 

While not specifically FOR a bass, but I went back home to Ireland last year for family reasons and while I was there, I came across a Fender 60th Anniversary Roadworn Jazz on a couple of the sites I used to use when I lived there.

Seeing as it was my 40th birthday while I was there, I thought I'd treat myself. Borrowed the old man's car and did a 3hr drive each way. Got it home, un-bolted the neck, tied up the strings, bubble wrapped the body and popped it in my suitcase.

Wrapped the neck and left it in the hard case. Checked in bags. No issues when I landed back in New Zealand

 

Picked up another Jazz in March for for my 41st lol! That was an 8 hour round trip (with a stop for lunch).

 

Heading up the road again this Saturday to pick up what will most likely be the last bass I ever buy (genuinely!). About 240KMs each way.

First thing I've bought new from a shop in about 10 odd years. I am a little bit excited...

I flew to San Francisco to collect a white Spector NS4.

Furthest I've done is about 220 mile each-way trip, which was Bridgend, South Wales to Doncaster to pick up my 78 Precision which I still have.

Just over 80 miles to pick up a Warwick Streamer from Wigan, did 400 to collect some Markbass cabs from Milton Keynes though which was more of a trek. I usually just wait until the thing I want appears closer to home as I don't like driving for more than an hour or so and train prices are silly.

Bus to station Edinburgh to Glasgow on train, walk across Glasgow centre, train to paisley, bus to random suburb 

 

and then back the other way…

 

why the extra points, it was a peavey t40 in its case and another bass or something I forget. The bass anlone was over 14lb. Ever tried to carry a T40 by hand across the central belt? Couldn’t even switch hands because of whatever the other thing was, a combo amp maybe??

I've been lucky and usually had someone else to pick up for me if it was far way. The last bass I bought was on the other side of the country, a guy from work was there by chance and was able to pick up the bass and drive it home.

630 mile round trip, my brother had already done an 80 mile round trip to collect it from the seller, so 710 miles in total.

I won't admit he was going to Edinburgh already or that I was heading up to Dunblane and back for his other half's 60th birthday at which I would be playing said bass...

I was only joking Reggae as you said all the way round! The pedant in me wants to point out that the M25 doesn’t go all the way round. There is a short bit of A road over the dartford crossing that they used to stop them having to stop collecting tolls once the bridge finance was repaid. That was a term of the finance being syndicated for the build so tolls should have stopped many years ago. But hey Ho!

Done Essex to Glasgow and back in a day for a Gibson J200 once.

 

Also did Essex to San Francisco for a Conklin 9 string, but that was over a weekend.
