Stub Mandrel Posted Friday at 21:12 Posted Friday at 21:12 Finally watched my Chronicle of the Black Sword DVD - after years! I was at the original gig and I have the studio and live albums, and it's still awesome. 1 Quote
Gank Bass Posted Friday at 21:47 Posted Friday at 21:47 Other than learning songs for gigs, for the last 3/4 months on my journeys I have been listening exclusively to the Blindboy Podcast - incredibly varied, interesting and entertaining human being Quote
steantval Posted Sunday at 18:45 Posted Sunday at 18:45 (edited) Faith Healer by SAHB. I remember going to the rock disco’s at the Top Rank Suite in Cardiff during 1975, they used to play this track through the massive PA, the throbbing intro to the song was awesome, you could feel it hitting your chest. I would be surprised if Stub Mandrel didn’t attend any of the rock disco’s or live gigs there. Edited yesterday at 18:16 by steantval 5 Quote

NancyJohnson Posted Sunday at 19:37 Posted Sunday at 19:37 I listened to the deluxe version of Frank Sinatra's Ring A Ding Ding! album twice this afternoon. The second CD is 69 minutes of absolute delight. Studio chatter, out takes, botched takes, Sinatra talking with the orchestra, Sinatra singing on his own and telling the orchestra they need to play at different tempos and where he went wrong. It's amazing that he tracked all the vocals for 13 songs over three days just prior to Christmas 1960 AND there were clearly versions of various tracks that were clearly in flux at the time of recording. Honestly, great stuff. Quote

Bassassin Posted yesterday at 12:17 Posted yesterday at 12:17 (edited) Bands that make me question why I ever thought I could write music No. 537548684748t57475 (not really) Lowen, a London band fronted by the daughter of Iranian refugees, who describe themselves as 'crushing progressive doom steeped in the history of the ancient middle-east and the empty vistas of space'. My description - the most gloriously apocalyptic, emotive, powerful, ethereal & downright beautiful music I have heard in a very long time. Edited yesterday at 14:49 by Bassassin Quote
Stub Mandrel Posted yesterday at 15:00 Posted yesterday at 15:00 So many excellent takes on this Howlin' Wolf classic, but this is one of my favourites. Quote

Sounds like Nightwish with a harmonic minor scale (not a criticism). Quote

I was at their Hammersmith Odeon date, with Michael Moorcock reading from his books between songs and, if I remember correctly (it was a Hawkwind gig so the memory may well be ...er... tainted) Robert Calvert in his flying helmet. Great gig, great album. I haven't seen the DVD. 1 Quote
