I loved Kim Deal too back when they were in their heyday, but they don't seem to be able to function together. Apparently she just announced she was leaving mid-tour in a Café Nero in Monmouth! If it means they are writing new stuff rather than just churning out the old material, I'm not too bothered about Kim Deal leaving. I've just downloaded EP1 and I'm really enjoying it. I think they're still doing good stuff. Much as I love their music, though, I get the distinct impression that Black Francis etc. are a funny bunch of buggers. I'd say Paz Lenchantin is a very different bass player to the two Kims... and very attractive. Not the sort of bass player you'd expect to see or hear in The Pixies. Saw them play @ The Apollo back in November, and she was an awesome addition to the band. She looked like she was having a blast! Though it was always Frank's/Charles' band in terms of songwriting and what not. Trouble is, as anyone who's watched the "loud QUIET loud" documentary will remember, they just don't talk to each other properly. Charles said it. Kelley Deal says it to Kim. And lo and behold, Kim Shattuck said that in an interview NME reported when the band's management handed her her notice!
