Great day. Good to see everyone, old faces and new, and lots of great gear to ogle. :) And hey, I won a T-shirt!

Gear highlights of the day were Alex's new Barefaced cabs, the Markbass Multiamp, a Mk3 Wal and Billy Apple's raucous Matamp rig. :D

98dB through Mr Clabber's 212+112 stack.. and just past half volume... Awesome!

But seriously (folks), looking forward to your always-fab photos Silvia.

Regarding the day, I especially enjoyed the Q&A with Paul and Dave - very inspirational.

And my favourite moment of the day was being able to tell Dave Swift to be quiet (during my inept talk on DB). Yes, me, blagging rubbish bass player telling 23 year pro Dave Swift to be quiet. Still makes me giggle. He was so nice about it too. There's a message there. Nice people do well

Having arrived home and had the traditional Saturday night curry (washed down with some MUCH needed Old Rosie) I can now do a brief update.

First of all, apologies. Nik and I were quite overwhelmed with the sheer number of people who turned up. Yes, we could have been prepared because we had a rough headcount beforehand, but it was hard to prepare for the sheer effervescence of everyone who turned up and needed looking after/pointing in the right direction/information etc etc in one way or another. It was certainly a learning curve with what turned out to be the biggest and best Bash I've ever been to!

What that boiled down to was a cock-up in getting the tombola up and running, and so it wan't run. With great thanks to those who generously donated prizes to it, and at the same time apologies for cocking it up. Have no fear, everything will be saved for the next South East Bass Bash!

I really enjoyed the excellent workshops/chats which were very ably run by some great guys:

Bryn (UrbanKarma) who presented in public for the first time (as I understand - UK premier??) the new Markbass MultiAmp - http://www.markbass....tail.php?id=238 I use MarkBass myself and it really is excellent quality gear.

Kris Kedzior who showed and talked about his own range of lightweight and easy to transport 'Baby Basses' - http://baby-bass.com/ Such a talented and humble guy!

We were delighted to welcome Dave Swift - http://www.daveswiftbass.com/ and Paul Geary - http://www.paulgeary.com/ who gave an excellent and very down-to-earth talk about their careers and the ever changing world of the professional gigging bassist. Cracking down to earth chaps and a real pleasure to meet both of them.

We also welcomed Joel McIver - the current editor of Bass Guitar Magazine - http://www.bassguitarmagazine.com/ who has been described as "probably the top [rock] scribe in the world" due to his prolific and respected writing - http://www.joelmciver.co.uk/site.html Another top down-to earth chap who talked about his writing career and editorship.

Clarky gave a really quite good intro into making the transition onto double bass, and Urb spoke in his workshop about beginners to advanced technique - and if you've heard him play he's quite advanced!

Huge thanks must also go to Fender - http://www.fender.com/en-GB/ who very generously supported our very 'grass roots' event by donating a brand new Fender Vintage Modified Jaguar Bass as our main raffle prize.

We also received some nice donations to the table from our friends at Bass Gear - http://www.bassgear.co.uk/

Alex Claber was also at hand and launched (another world premier!) his latest range of stunning bass cabinets by bringing pre-production samples for all to abuse and wonder at! - http://www.barefacedbass.com/

The biggest thanks must go to all who once again came and supported the event - it really is a non-event unless you come!

Thanks to all those who donated to the raffle/tombola table and gave their time and energy to the day - Silverfoxnik - Happy Jack - OBBM - Bluejay and to my ever supporting ("why are you bringing back more than you took?") soulmate Sarah

The end result is that we have raised over £1000 for charity!! I've yet to come to a final figure because I left the refreshment proceeds by the sink - Doh! I'll give a final grand total tomorrow.

Cheers all for a great day!!

Colin

Any Ideas where the money will go, or is it up for suggestions?

I think me secrets out now about being the Fender man.

Genuinely chuffed to bloody bits to be part of it. I am blessed to have done a lot of cool stuff at a young age but you offer me Namm or Messe or BassBash. I choose the bash. We all started this journey because we love music. Whether we end up at Wembley, working for companies we all love or playing in our bedrooms we have that same core.

Pleasure to meet all of you. Pleasure to be able to bring a prize. Pleasure for Nige to win it.

A grand for charity?

What a community we have here.

Ah right ... got logged while on hols, ws wondering why it said I couldn't post.

Chilling after tonights dep, so time to read the updated thread. First thing to do was attend the Bash as a precursor to the dep. Great do as ever. Well done all & good news re the proceeds.

Arrived a bit late and decided with the amount of gear there, and the talks I wanted to see all that came out of the car was one bass for a bit of a noodle in the jam room - actually thinking about it two as one went in the For Sale corner to no avail (hey ho). Good to see so many faces new & old, but as ever there was too much to see and too litle time - not a complaint re organisation just a wish that I had a couple of clones to be in more than one place at a time, though as one of me is substantially more than that the required numbers of me probably as well not eh?

Thanks Nik for bringing a bass & the synth home for me. The evenings dep wasn't the most salubrious and either bringing them in (no room for a start) or leaving the quaking in their boots in the car all night were definitely not optios I'd have been happy with - I was starting to onder wether the basses I did take were such a good idea, I really need a cheap back up I don't need to worry about for such gigs.

And again thanks for a great day. Bass all day & night Saturday & 4 hours of a prog r/h tomorrow make the prospect of work on Monday after a two week break less & less appealing

*Yawn*

Morning All, didn't get around to posting last night, but I feel I just have to add my thanks to Colin, Nik et al for organising this wonderful event, as is my wont, I got there too early, and had to leave early too, but I had a great time, and came away with some nice Goodies. Tnx Paul S, 1/4lber's installed and sounding goooood! Also many thanks to Hamster for my nice shiny Barefaced compact, I am one happy bunny now and my back will thank me forever! So looking forward to rehearsals next week to find out how it all sounds 'in anger'
As mentioned previously, its great to put faces and personalities to forum names, Nige, glad to see your Clockwork Angels fob gets regular airing too!

I'm sure I've missed something, ok make coffee an regroup lol!

Morning All,

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who came to hear my talk - I know I covered a lot of ground and as such felt I was perhaps rushing along which is just how it is if you have 45mins to explain stuff that I've developed over many years - so if you have any further questions etc please ping me a message and I'll be happy to try and explain things further. Next year I'm open to suggestions for what I might be able to cover - personally I'd love to bring my laptop electro-jazz thing to the bash - maybe with either a drummer of trumpeter friend of mine - got some work to do on that but hey I've got a year...

Thanks again for listening to me and hopefully it was useful-ish

Mike
