My favourite would be Gabrielle Aplin's 'English Rain'. Singer/songwriter is a real right turn from my love of modern Jazz and improvised music, but i love it more every time i listen to it. Somewhat disappointed i discovered her just as she was finishing her tour!

Some others i really liked...

Steven Wilson - The Raven That Refused To Sing
Karnivool - Asymmetry
Maria Schneider - Winter Morning Walks

My pleasure mate! Great to hear about the upcoming single too. You lot deserve that and then some.

You also need to get your arses up
north for a gig! Or I need to get mine down south sometime ;)

Awww cheers man!

Also meant to say I will check out Shep's new music too, I really like what he does, great ears.

Sadly we still have no plan to get out of town yet, but if you ever plan to come down here, I'd be delighted!

Other than that, The Bluefields "Ramshackle" - OK, so it's hoary old-style rawk, but they put on the bestest rockingest show I've been to so far this year.

+1 I've got it on repeat in the car. When I first heard about them I wondered why they had a singer when Dan Baird was in the band (as bass player). After seeing Joe Blanton belt it out, I know!

...I'm also really liking the stuff that Shep is putting out at the moment through his KADE project (details here).

Gotta love Basschat for the new music that gets signposted on here :)

I am really liking the debut album by Phillious Williams, called Stay Ugly Beautiful. They call themselves 'heavy Western' and are a mix of blues, Americana and spaghetti western soundtrack. They are London based (my lot have upported them) and I predict they will go places

Here's a live clip as a flavour http://leefest.org.uk/phillious-williams/

I've been getting into Sabbath's 13 being an old rock geezer and Spock's Beard's Brief Nocturns but slightly unexpectedly my best album of the year is Now What?! from Deep Purple, excellent stuff!

As I'm going to see DP next month I thought I'd better give Now What another go yesterday. Played it a few times back to back when it first came out but then neglected it. You're right it's abetter album than I first thought, some of the tracks have a similar feel to the material from Abandon from the mid-90's which tends to get overlooked.

For me it's Kanye West's 'Yeezus'. Not everyone's cup of tea I know but I think it's superb!

Runners up are Daft Punk, QOTSA
Agreed on these as well. 'Yeezus' is fantastic. I am not a huge fan of hip hop/r n b (although I do like some of it) but this album really is pretty groundbreaking and VERY dark.

Really liked Disclosure's album, very good for two young lads their age. Unknown Mortal Orchestra's 'II' is also excellent.

For me, the clear winner is Tomorrow's Harvest by Boards of Canada. Absolutely love it to bits,

And this :). My obsession with Boards of Canada lives on.
