Gonna have a listen to these over the next couple of days & vote.
I started a track, but never got time to finish it. :(
Next month I'll be back.

There's as many folk written songs for this as has entered the photo comp. now that's impressive!

Good luck all. :)

Well done all - a lot of lovely ambient type stuff, and some bit War of The Worlds! I'm not sure about the etiquette of saying who you voted for, but for me, it was a tie between two that I really loved, and the decider was the one which related to the picture more. Top, top quality. BTW, I'm the piece of toast commenting on Soundcloud in case you were wondering. Thanks to those who are following me, you may be in for a long wait :-)

Yet another batch of great tracks. New infusion, old hands (well, OK; not that old...), this gets more better and gooder each time. Where will it all end, eh..?
Once again an impossible choice, (almost...) akin to the old story of Solomon. How to reward one, or even find a preference..? Mother of twelve: "Actually I prefer Robert, he's a far nicer child than my others..." Nah, it's doesn't ring, does it..?
Never mind, I voted just the same. My criteria have not changed; I still go for the entry that, whatever the 'quality' of the recording, or even the playing, seems to me to have the most inspired work done on the compo side, and respect or match the photo associated. Not that the playing or recordings are faulty, far from it..! Well done all, and doubly so the new entrants. Now the waiting begins to see who comes out on top. Breath duly bated, nails duly chewed, foot tapping... (...and I didn't even enter..! ).
Hurry up, you lot. Get them votes in, y'hear all..?
No doubt about it, to come in as a complete outsider with such a seasoned pack requires a special kind of folly or commitment. The newcomers have hit the turf full gallop, however, and give the old hands a run for their (virtual...) money. I plumped for a complete rendering, with a theme, a song, an embroidery, intelligent composition with nothing superfluous. Well done, SC, and a hearty round of applause.
Not that the others are not good..! Indeed, maybe listening on another evening, a different ambiance, more or less tired or concentrated, it would be easy to be swayed by the diverse qualities proposed. A couple are not my 'cuppa', but that wouldn't stop me voting for such styles if the result was strong enough.
A suggestion, though, for Debbie..? Would the 'stems' for your opus be available for our monthly 'mix' competition..? It would be interesting to see how others treated the sources to come up with different choices..? I imagine that Paul or Simon would know how to do it, if you're interested. Just a thought...
OK after a vast quantity of gin (especially for a Tuesday night) I have made it through this months entries and cast my vote.

I don't think it's uncouth to say who I've voted for, I think we're all amongst friends here and it's nice for people to know you think their piece is the best.

First up I love the SKOL / urb compilation this month, its incredibly polished and sounds like something lifted straight from a commercial release, your work is top notch and I always look forward to hearing your stuff.

lowdown's piece has a cracking production, its amazing how much things have come on since going into the studio and paying a fortune for a reel to reel demo only to sound half as polished as this.

I'm also tempted by steve's composition as I think he's a quality player and I greatly respect the musicality in all his pieces. Check out his youtube slap double bass clip - its awesome.

At the end of the day though this is a composition competition and I have to vote for my favourite piece of music. This month for me, discreet's creation was the best. I loved it, reminds me of old Roland 303 era big beat stuff. great musicality, great sounds and a great tune. I think this is a wonderful example of what basschat's creative community has to offer. All these entries have something unique about them but this month discreet's composition did it for me...

Some great entries and hard to pick a winner for me, went for Lurks in the end as I love blues and I thought it suited the pic well. Skol's/Urb's was the usual awesome quality track, loved the production and mix, loved quite a few this month the standard is getting better each month. I got a vote and I think from the comment above it was from MB1 and I can die a happy man to be even mentioned in the same sentence as Barney and J.C.Clarke. Cheers MB1

Seriously great efforts this month... I can't actually decide on a winner (I am extremely biased in favour of one of them though...) not sure I'm actually going to vote as the overall standard is so high and I don't want to cheat

Well done everyone - it's truly staggering the way this has gained and maintained such incredible momentum - welcome newbies too - you've done yourselves proud.

Cheers

Mike

PS - thanks for all the very kind words on both our tune - Skol's production skills are quite awesome - and my playing - it was a genuine collaboration - starting with the beat from Paul, then chords/synths/bass line from me then seriously cool vocals onto then a mad mix mashup - I'm very proud of the work we did here and I'm hoping to put together a video for this tune and then begin work on proper recording project with Paul towards the end of August... we'll keep you all posted.
