Yes I think they would have to change where the knobs were if a 51 style plate were on. In their current position you would probably end up with maybe 1 knob or half a knob under the 51 plate and the other 2 to the left of it. Not to mention the knob shelling out good money for it in the first place ;)
Hee, hee. :D I was thinking about this actually - a better solution would be a 51-type control plate but with two nickel stacked knobs of the type found on the early Jazz Bass. It would look much better and a standard two-hole control plate could be used. I feel another Photoshop session followed by a PM to The Bass Doc coming on... :D

Maple, Sonic Blue, one-ply mint pickguard.... Eh? Or maybe aged buttery Oly white with a one-ply black pg... Eh? Eh?
Phwooar! Not 'arf.

Fender never try anything new, do they? They just stick to the same tried-and-tested designs over and over again, yadda yadda yadda.

Damned if they do, damned if they don't.

By the way, I think it's truly wretched. It makes me want to sick up a little bit.

I agree they should try and stick with what they know...but make it more consistent. Every American Standard needs to be damn right briliiant and they aren't.

This is a truly awful design.

I didn't even notice the bridge pickup.
I bet quite a few people didn't. That's because Fender in their wisdom decided to unveil their new creation in black!
Bit of a blunder really. I'd have chosen... well, almost any other colour! WTF?

It would actually look far less of a pig's ear if you could see the bridge pup clearly... and it had a 51-type pg! :)

I actually find this borderline insulting that Fender would even bother releasing this. It's absolutely disgusting, I usually think that 'a bass is worth what you're willing to pay for it' etc. but I wouldn't pay over £60 for this. Whoever commissioned this needs shooting up close with a BB gun.

Absolutely ! !
I've just clicked on the Fender site and looked at the Pawn Shop Mustangs and they look top notch ! Surely they could have matched them with one of their flagship basses

I guess with all the various combinations available it's inevitable you can come up with things that don't work if you keep swapping the variables often enough. I think they needed to do a bit more market research though, questionnaires to regular Fender buyers, bass forums and the like. Might have nipped it in the bud before it got to this stage.
I like the Custom Shop job AndyTravis posted. If I was being picky I might go for the rear PU being a tad closer to the bridge and with through body stringing but it's a minor detail.

At least they are doing something different with the pawn shop series and they are normally witin most of our budgets (if we go without food for a month or two) Good thing about the pawn shop series is if you don't like it you can confidently say it's a genuine I have the money and I'm not gonna spend it.

Do fancy a go on the pawn shop Fender Bass VI I could see me playing one of those in a bad with a good dose of filth on it and a heap of stoopid efx and just do quiet/loud post rock twiddlings :)

You'd also save yourself just under $5000. List price on the 1951 Relic Precision is an eye-watering $5400. Errrrm.
