  1. My first bit of bass equipment in 2 years! Picked this Vintage Modified (More to come on that) Jazz an hour ago. Lovely bit of kit! Nice slim satin Jazz neck. Nice variety in tones bit of wear on the neck (How easy is it to polish up Ebanol?) - Happy enough for £120. The modified bit is the relicing/sandpapering the bass has been subjected too. The arm rest - Fair enough Above the pickups - Actually pretty comfy, especially as it's a bit deeper at the bridge. Thumb fits there and not too bothered. The lower horn - meh, looks like the started and then just gave up. Might look at filling it in. Now - the reason I bought this is I have another fretless Jazz that I've been looking for a new neck/fretboard for. I want to keep the body as it is pretty unique and haven't seen one for sale anywhere else. Only managed to find a picture a fretted on Google I had planned to just switch the neck but I have to say I do like the classic sunburst looking Jazz.....I'll mull it over and either the body of the Squier will be up for sale or the other bass will be!
  2. As someone who is currently not playing much and has all basses covered (4, 5 and Fretless) I seem to have bought another bass....NBD later today 😅

  3. Reckon if I was ever going to place an order it would look something like this - 32" 5 string coming in at £1,700 😅 I have played a short scale Elwood and it felt great but was just a bit too small, reckon the 32" is perfect. Wish I had got in on the Maruszczyk action when they were more affordable!
  4. Who knew it could take so long to sell a P Bass?
Has everyone already got one? 😅

Not me...I don't think I've ever owned one.

I've got one I built from parts; it is really very good and I've no plans to buy another.

I think its the time of year Dude, I am selling two BF compacts, normally go well, but not a chance yet.

  5. Pretty sure this is exactly what Dart does with his bass since his right hand technique is pretty full on most of the time.
  6. Ooooh now if only I had the pennies! Was really interested in this when Alan first started working on these.
  7. Oooh that will look mint. How much (roughly) is it costing you? Always liked the idea of blinging my white 425
  8. Have to agree, Nords sound better on these videos anyway. Looking forward to seeing these out and about!
  9. I tried one in GuitarGuitar and it just felt bland. You know those basses where lightweight feels cheap and not designed in? That was my first impression. Secondly there was sharp edges on the headstock clamp which I found whe playing down the lower end on the D and G strings. Just didn't feel like a £2k bass.
  10. This is probably my favourite variation. Shame that the most basic ones are only available on White 4 string or Black 5 String.
  11. Ibanez designs have never really done much for me but these look interesting. I really appreciate that they haven't just lopped the head off the standard design
  12. Fender US Standard Precision Bass 2014. Well its a new year and you deserve a new bass! Selling a beautiful Fender US Precision Bass - just surplus to requirements. Bass is in great condition and has one small dent on the upper horn but can barely be seen. Plays very nicely and does exactly what a P bass should - a must have in all bassists stable. Don't have an exact weight but can't be much over 4kg. Comes with a Fender ABS Molded Case worth £120 on it's own. Please feel free to ask any questions. Collection from Glasgow is preferred but will post within the EU. Please message me regarding your location so before buying so I can get a more accurate shipping quote. 13. After reading this thread I decided to listen to I'm With You and The Getaway as I simply haven't been interested in those albums. Not many songs grabbed me on the Getaway. I'm With You has a few better ones - particularly enjoy Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie and Goodbye Hooray.
  14. I had very little to complain about with mine. Only sold it to get a bass I'd been looking for for a few years, would happily have another.
  15. Could be be the cynic in me - but did they do that on purpose? As you say, nowt wrong with the actual instruments but the logo does cheapen it and the range above looks far better. They want you to spend more money after all. Nice logo design btw!
  16. I'm a recent Tape convert. I use the LaBella Copper White Nylons - they look and feel killer and are still bright enough for a lifelong rounds player. Apparently the standard White Nylons are even brighter so might try them next.
  17. This may not help, but someone is selling a Sire on Facebook for a very reasonable £240. Will struggle to do much better than that. I've bought from Shep previously and very trustworthy
  18. Also, if you check out the BB thread. 129 pages about one series of basses so they must be doing something right 😅
  19. For those two points. 1) Maybe look for a BB425 as it is cleaner with no scratchplate but I understand what you mean about the mainstream J shape seeking more familiar. 2) While the Sire pre amp gets rave reviews, if you don't want to deal with batteries the Sire can do passive mode but is it worth having the active option there if you don't plan on using it? I've got a 425 so I am slightly biased but they are great basses, the newer ones are great too, slightly lighter and the body shape is slightly smaller too.
  20. Nice review, and I think you're right - depending on what you expect of it, it will either be a belter or a bit lacklustre but plenty of space to make improvements to the EQ. Feel free to drop my a message when you decide to move it on.
  21. I've played one and am still contemplating getting one to compliment my Tanglewood Bass Master Funk Spector-a-like. I was really impressed with how it felt, flat wide neck which I like, tones weren't bad either from only being played in a shop environment. Enjoy your new bass!
  22. For those wanting to know - getting a 32.5" scale costs an extra £255 as a custom option.
  23. Look for Hohner Jack 5 Strings. Think they are quite rare but sound like exactly what you are looking for.
  24. Well, that's it. Converted to tapewound strings 😁. So smooth but still with bite.

I have some of the black Fenders on my acoustic and i'm now a convert too...agree though the shiny coating is a bit weird.

I've been using Status Black Tapewounds for a few years now....not exclusively, there's a time and place for roundwounds too.

On pianos, that's a good place for 'em.
