    So, some parts have arrived! Picked up some Squier elephant ear tuners from @jezzaboy to replace the tin foil tuners currently in place. I've never drilled holes for tuners so will probably need some advice on measuring to ensuring they fit. Already switched out the lovely strat pickup for a cheap rail pickup in a cool cover and it sounds not bad. Popped an old set of rounds on for now but will end up with tapewounds at some point. This will end up Pink with a tort scratchplate 😅 but the biggest task is working how to install and wire up this Quad rail humbucker I bought - much advice will be needed for this 😁

    Good thing about the LaBellas, as expensive as they seem, you might have to replace them in about 10 years!

    Putting the EMGs in it make it super versatile for replacements which is good too

    I reckon I would go 5 as I just imagine they need more engineering to make a great 5 string (could be completely wrong) and by that logic I could get a 4 that suits my tastes more easily from a production model.

    Thanks for all the opinions so far! As I said it's purely hypothetical and I flip flop in what I want far too often just now to commit to a 6 month+ waiting time for any bass. Just thought it was an interesting conundrum for those who regularly play 4 and 5 string.

    Three very different basses there, all good within their own right. Out of those, on specs alone, the Sire would win for most. Depends on the pickup arrangement you want. Its worth noting that Sire also do the P7 which is a PJ setup in a precision style body

    This is purely hypothetical as my current situation means I can't afford don't need any form of new bass but it's a question that I've pondered a fair few times. If I were to get a bass made for me, do I go 4 or 5? I play both and appreciate they both have their uses and advantages. I view 4 string as the instrument where I can do more technical tricks like slapping etc but 5s for me cover a lot of bases and I do like having the 5th string. So really, I'm asking what people in a similar situation did when commissiong their first big expensive toy and why they chose 4 or 5?

    So the time has come to sell my amp - I've toyed with this for a long time but I am not going to be in a band and I mostly play in headphones so this is up for sale. If you know about Phil Jones, you know the quality you're getting. Whilst this is a slightly older model this is basically new, all 4 speakers have been replaced and haven't been used for anything louder than indoor use since they were replaced. Also comes with a cover Here are the official specs: • 2 channel 300 W amp (180W into internal speakers) • 4 x high power 5” drivers in computer designed 8Ω enclosure Each input features; • Active/Passive input • 5 band eq (50Hz/160Hz/630Hz, 2.5kHz/12kHz) • Optical compressor/limiter (switchable/adjustable) • Headphone out • Balanced line out XLR DIi) • Effects return • Extension speaker out (taking the output to 300 W with extra 8Ω cab w/speakon) •Dimensions; 16.5 H x 13.5 W x 17.5 D •Weight - 49lb/23kgs I am happy to ship it but it being 23kg it won't be cheap, happy to get you a quote though.     I primarily practice through headphones and just recorded myself for the first time in a long time.....Yikes.

    Very sloppy - need to tighten the technique up!

    Granted that does seem narrow but isn't the bass super lightweight?

    Dead quick, are the tuners on a Mex Fender better or on par with Wilkinsons? Are either lighter/heavier? There's a set of Fender ones on Facebook for the same price as Wilkinson ones so just trying to make a decision. For reference, it's for a Bronco project.

    Yeah seems like they skimped on having that as an option. Could probably be done fairly easily if the wires are all there.

    That would be about right looking at the price bracket of the other Tribute models. Unfortunately I fear it will be £599 as a lot of brands now do that for new releases....but to be fair it would be right up against the short scale Stingray.

    So I'm toying with replacing my BB425 with a jazz bass style 5 string. Basically it was going to be the Sire in burgundy - until I found this. I know that Revelation are well respected at the budget end but a quick search didn't bring much for this model. So anyone seen or tried this? Looks mint.
