Is this a concern about the front of house mix or just your own monitor mix? It sounds to me like the latter. For the former, your sound guy should know the overall balance that the band wish to achieve as in post #2 and the band should leave this to him, but for the latter it's important for us all to be able to clearly hear our own part. In a monitor mix turning one up often leads to another being drowned out unintentionally. How many different mixes can your soundman supply?

2012 model - Crafted in Indonesia Rosewood fretboard with binding and pearl blocks Hipshot Ultralite tuners Weight 9.2lbs Width at nut 38.1mm (1.5") Fitted with J Retro preamp – original control plate and knobs included Fitted with DR Sunbeams – 45-105 Comes with Hiscox hard case with fully functioning locks and key. This is in superb condition. There is one tiny blemish under the finish on the headstock as shown in the photographs and a tiny scratch on the control plate, just being honest. No dinks or dings on body or neck. The neck is very thin and makes for effortless playing. I will put the original strap buttons on. Price - £650 – no trades thank you very much as I have already purchased one guitar too many! Collection naturally is preferred from Cambs or Milton Keynes, but other options not ruled out.

I did once - started off by email and I ended up phoning them and they were fine with it. They didn't advertise as either willing to ship internationally or not. They were comfortable knowing it was going to the Uk. More concerned about insurance costs and whether there were and additional costs that they would incur. I didn't save any money (and I guess given the current exchange rates that's even less likely now) but I got my colour that was no longer available here. I'd not do it again to be honest unless I was desperate!
Tell me more.....
You can now get them here http://www.hot-rodpickups.com/pb-thumper-precision-bass-pickup-574-p.asp If you do a quick search on Basschat for Wizard Thumper you'll find quite a lot of positive feedback

Odd, it's happened on one out of three of mine too, like it's got glue on it or melted in the heat. I have to wash my hands after using it. No idea why I'm afraid, I just assumed the rubber was perishing...

I love the 62s and swapped out my QPs for them, but my other favourite is Wizard Thumpers. Fantastic P sound. Now made by HotRod I believe to rhe same specs..

The saddles themselves are getting lower as you play? That means the height adjustment screws are working themselves loose, in which case a drop of clear nail varnish works a treat. Plenty of other fender and non fender (Babicz, Gotoh)out there - make sure you get one with five screws!

You might just have made yourself their "go-to dep" 😉

I've bought three Les Pauls (guitars not basses) and sold them on. You'd think I'd learn. There's something that says you have to have the holy trinity of Strat, Tele, LP but the last one just falls flat for me.

The Nate Mendel has a slim C but it also has a slight smaller nut width of 41.02mm as opposed to 41.3mm apparently as well as a 7.25 radius against your standard 9.25.

Hands up! who's in a 80's/90' pop/rock cover band
Muppet replied to zonular's topic in General Discussion
Are you interested from an authentic look perspective or is there a particular 80s sound that you're trying to recreate? -

I still use the Tascam MP-BT1. Great bit of kit though I have replaced the rechargeable battery once.

Rehearsal room: "Can you lock up when you leave, please?"

What's to stop me making up a fictitious band after seeing this thread and nicking the gear and the money? Does he only do it with people/bands he trusts? -

As a dep if you're going to let a band down then the time to do it is when the gigs offered to you, rather than when you decide you don't like or can't get on with the songs, singer, guitarists girlfriend whatever
I'd at least expect the chords, as a starting point. Ive depped for bands where they've done different interpretations shall we say , of songs. So the chords I've worked out from the recording have been wrong. Also a lot of people will tell you what key a song is in, only they're wrong. Having the chords makes the job a lot faster and easier, and more accurate. Ideally I'd want the dots. That's the only dep gig I would do, it's acceptable on those to sight-read it anyway, so there's nothing really to learn.
Yeah I know what you mean about keys! I can't sight read, but know chords, modes and scales etc so I'm ok on that front. I often ask for recordings - a lot of bands have these available, which makes it a bit easier to understand what's expected of you as a dep...

Back on to the lights - I use one LED KAM Powerbar set up facing us where possible (lights at the back just put us in darkness to the audience) and two Powerbars for big stages. These aren't cheap but I really rate them. You get what you pay for I guess... Steve
Do they give you charts to learn off, or have you got to work them out ? I wouldn't bother if they didn't.
I hear this quite often and I'll admit now, after 30 years of bass playing I have no idea what a 'chart' is! I dep a bit and get given a set list and the keys that they are in - is this a 'chart'? I have a short attention span too, so I tend to string all the songs together in a playlist and run through the playlist a few times giving each song more or less equal attention, noting down the starting chords to form my own cheat sheet. I find that with many many songs, as the Jack Bruce example, the chord sequences can be anticipated. Or maybe I'm just being asked to learn really boring song...! Steve

Sold. Fender American Vintage 58 Precision reissue.
Muppet replied to karlfer's topic in Basses For Sale
Karl, do you have any experience of the U shape on the 74 AVRI Jazz and how this might compare to yours profile wise (as I have one of these and like the feel)? Clearly width would be different but I'm not fussed about that.... I've also had a 51 CIJ Precision but didn't like that neck at all really. Thanks Steve -
If you're after accurate transcriptions I'd not rely on it. If you want it for general structure and chord changes then it's ok. I tend to use it occasionally for the latter then use my ears to fine tune!

So, 19 months on from my initial post, anyone bought one (and kept it) or tried one? I have..... (Tried not bought).... They're still for sale at the original price though so I've been proved wrong about my 'discounted or discontinued inside 12 months' comment....
The pedal board in question. Can anyone turn these pictures the right way please.
Looks like the guitarists pedal board to me

Spouses, do they like or hate your instruments?
Muppet replied to Barking Spiders's topic in General Discussion
Mrs Muppet has no interest in me. She loves my gear. -
If I'm interpreting the initial post correctly you're worried that if you had to switch to the Peavey you wouldn't actually be able to play it properly and what's the point of taking a back up bass anyway if you have no confidence in playing it? I always take a spare and have never needed it, but it comforts me to know that it is there. If you like the security of having a back up then I'd ditch the Peavey and get another P bass.
