You might just have made yourself their "go-to dep" 😉

I've bought three Les Pauls (guitars not basses) and sold them on. You'd think I'd learn. There's something that says you have to have the holy trinity of Strat, Tele, LP but the last one just falls flat for me.

The Nate Mendel has a slim C but it also has a slight smaller nut width of 41.02mm as opposed to 41.3mm apparently as well as a 7.25 radius against your standard 9.25.

Are you interested from an authentic look perspective or is there a particular 80s sound that you're trying to recreate?

I still use the Tascam MP-BT1. Great bit of kit though I have replaced the rechargeable battery once.

What's to stop me making up a fictitious band after seeing this thread and nicking the gear and the money? Does he only do it with people/bands he trusts?

As a dep if you're going to let a band down then the time to do it is when the gigs offered to you, rather than when you decide you don't like or can't get on with the songs, singer, guitarists girlfriend whatever

I can't sight read, but know chords, modes and scales etc so I'm ok on that front. I often ask for recordings - a lot of bands have these available, which makes it a bit easier to understand what's expected of you as a dep...

Back on to the lights - I use one LED KAM Powerbar set up facing us where possible (lights at the back just put us in darkness to the audience) and two Powerbars for big stages. These aren't cheap but I really rate them. You get what you pay for I guess... Steve

I dep a bit and get given a set list and the keys that they are in - is this a 'chart'? I have a short attention span too, so I tend to string all the songs together in a playlist and run through the playlist a few times giving each song more or less equal attention, noting down the starting chords to form my own cheat sheet. I find that with many many songs, as the Jack Bruce example, the chord sequences can be anticipated. Or maybe I'm just being asked to learn really boring song...! Steve

If you're after accurate transcriptions I'd not rely on it. If you want it for general structure and chord changes then it's ok. I tend to use it occasionally for the latter then use my ears to fine tune!

So, 19 months on from my initial post, anyone bought one (and kept it) or tried one? I have..... (Tried not bought).... They're still for sale at the original price though so I've been proved wrong about my 'discounted or discontinued inside 12 months' comment....

If I'm interpreting the initial post correctly you're worried that if you had to switch to the Peavey you wouldn't actually be able to play it properly and what's the point of taking a back up bass anyway if you have no confidence in playing it? I always take a spare and have never needed it, but it comforts me to know that it is there. If you like the security of having a back up then I'd ditch the Peavey and get another P bass.

I'd keep it simple and use a guitar amp and a bass amp. Play your bass looper in a signal chain going to the bass amp, your 'guitar with eq/pitch shift in a second chain going to a guitar amp. Split the chains with a a/b/a+b pedal you can use bass only, 'guitar' only or both live at the same time.

Agree with Karl - great on a Jazz but useless on a Precision. It just turn the Precision sound in to a weedy thin version so I swapped mine out. Clearly the knobs are different (the switches are the same) but I don't know if you can buy aftermarket S1 knobs for a Jazz...

Interesting! Mine makes a slight crackle (like a noisy pot) when adjusting the volume if I'm playing at the same time but it's pretty silent the rest of the time apart from the fan. I have the same setup as you and I don't get the pop either. Did you try the 'contact cleaner on a jack plug in the effects loop' trick?

We did this for a while. Ended up playing everything down half a step rather than just some songs. Makes for less mucking around for all guitars.

Assume it's out of warranty. Is it a failure or something you've done to it?
