  1. The 'buyer' is active, as a musician in his local area and on Facebook. He's not hiding, so if this is a genuine case of fraud the Police aren't going to struggle to find him and sort it out. Unless they choose not to do so for other reasons?
  2. It's far more versatile on a Jazz than on a Precision. I took it out of my Precision as it just switches to a weedy pointless sound.
  3. these guys are local to you and seem to fit the bill http://www.lexiegreen.com
  4. Well, you wanted a guitar emporium local to you with, I presume, a reasonable range of different guitars, so PMT would fit the bill. The guys in my Cambridge store are good chaps and very helpful.
  5. erm, you've got a pretty big PMT in Northampton?? Last time I was there they had a guitar or two.....
  6. I ended up buying Hercules guitar stands!
  7. Do you have an iPad? If so, you could buy something like a iRig, connect your guitar to your iPad and use an app like Amplitube, Bias/JamUp, Ampkit or similar. An alternative is a modelling amp like the new Vox VT40X that has numerous amp types and onboard effects.
  8. Important for me is that the Polytune and the Pitchblack both display '#' when needed rather than the TU2s little dot.
  9. When I click on that link the price is £55 plus £9.56 for delivery. That doesn't seem cheap to me... Am I missing something?
  10. I'm sure I saw something by Roger Sadowsky (on Talkbass?) about filing these properly to ensure correct string spacing and contact surface.....
  11. The BadAss III used to come with a set of grooved and plain saddles but I always thought you were supposed to file your own slots in the plain ones....
  12. Lots of interesting replies so thanks to all for taking the time. I guess it does come down to us spending more time on the detail before we engage his services. If he said " it's this price on the basis that you give me a hand" then that's absolutely fine. He is a good guy which is why we will continue to use him and we get on well, but I think clarification on what we are getting for our money is the way to go.
  13. Erm, yes, me, as per post number 6 on this thread...
  14. We are paying the going rate and it's not that he's a permanent member of the band so we're not splitting fees five ways -he's paid based on the size of the venue and the amount of gear required. He chooses to do it single handedly for us but he can use others in his company if he wanted to. Currently we do help him with all his equipment, as we do with all our band members and no one leaves until everything is packed up but it does feel sometimes as if we're paying for that privilege!
  15. I never knew that little estate existed. I will try to drop by and annoy Nick.
  16. Strange question but it's worth asking here as we (our band) don't know if we're being unreasonable. For larger gigs we hire a sound engineer and quality PA. We pay him his invoiced fee. He's not a mate of a mate, doing this for beer money, he's a professional operation and ends up with more than any band member does. Thing is, he expects us to turn up to venues to help him load in and set up before the gig and to wait around afterwards to coil cables and shift speakers at the end. He's got loads of gear (more than I think is necessary but the sound quality is good so I don't complain). He's not a one man business but most of the time for our gigs does it on his own. This setting up/taking down takes ages and he gets arsey if we don't help. Are we being unreasonable in thinking this is not really our job, or should we be all teamy and hang around for ages helping him out? From a band side, we all help each other load and pack so we're not selfish in that respect. thanks Steve
  17. I agreed to help out a band as they had no bass player at the time but had gigs. I was already in another band and agreed that any dates booked by my current band I would stick to. I kept a good diary and let them know well in advance of non-availability but ultimately they wanted me to play more that I could commit to, so I was fired, though it was all good natured and we remain friends still.
  18. I tried one of these at the weekend (as well as a B Social, but that's another thread). It was pretty good for the size but was a bit plasticky. you can connect it to an 'extension' for another £25 or so. I was comparing it against my Yamaha THR which is a bit unfair really given the cost difference and I would definitely stick with my THR, but at £50 it's pretty good value!

  20. I picked up a Rumble 500 combo a couple of weeks ago and it's now my main gigging setup in preference to my Ampeg, Markbass and TC rigs. The sound is excellent and I'm very impressed. No idea what heft is and frankly I don't care (sounds like a weasel word to me) but my ears tell me what's good and what isn't. I'll buy the 210 extension I think too just because both together will look cool, after applying Mr Discreet's logo mod, of course.
  21. I have one. Great value for money, very well made, very light with a good range of usable tones.
  22. What's the rest of the setup?
  23. I have a Volto and ran a Fulltone Bassdrive with the 9-18v adaptor no problem, but it was in a chain of only four pedals. I'm not overly keen on the Volto anyway - I can never guarantee the amount of charge available and the battery discharges at an alarming rate when not in use, so I have to plan in advance to ensure it's charged. I try to avoid using it to be honest.
  24. My newer Rumble uses USA made, Fender logo'd staples. I reckon your yellow Indonesian ones may benefit from an upgrade....
  25. I'd spend the extra £50 and get the rumble 500 to be honest. I've one of those and a BG250 and the Fender is, in my opinion, much better. The voicing options outweigh the toneprint functions. It is a 2x10 though as opposed to a 1x15.
