1. I quite like the idea of signature models if it offers a combination of components that aren't normally available together as a standard model, which is often the case. Sure you could take a regular model and customise it I guess, A good example is the Nate Mendel Precision - the combination of neck, pickups and bridge makes it quite attractive.
2. We did this at a festival a couple of years ago. Everything went straight to the PA and we wore headphones, as did the audience. All you could hear without the headphones was the drums. It was sh*te.
3.
Think I would be tempted to go with Fender 62 custom shop pups.
I agree with this, or some Wizard Thumpers...
4.
The other thing to take into account (which I'm surprised no one mentioned, including me), is the venue itself. I found that every venue I played, I had a slightly different EQ setting. Always tried to go as flat as possible, but at many venues, flat sounds crap.
I agree with this. On it's own, I would say your settings are quite extreme but you just have to go with your ears to match the settings to the venue and if that's what sounds good then that's what sounds good, regardless of the eq shape.
5. If you like your sound already but want a smaller box, why don't you try the Markbass CMD121P? You still have the option of adding an extension cab if you need the extra ooomph, with the NY121 which itself is very small and light. I have a TC RH750 and the sound is quite different to the Markbass. Saying that, I've just also bought a Rumble 500 combo which I'm beginning to love...
6. I have a couple of times but, as Gumtree, I always meet face to face and pay cash. I get to check it out first that way. If you're not close to the seller maybe there is another Basschatter you trust that could look at it on your behalf?
7.
Hot tip for anyone who can get to Guildford , Andertons I decided to leave it and bought a CMD121P Markbass combo instead .... it was more money but i just got on with the tone better.
That's interesting. I have the CMD121P and just today bought the 500 V3 combo. I think there's a NY121 cab in the for sale section that matches perfectly with your latest purchase and really does turn that combo in to a good small rig...
8. I'm sure this needs no introduction but I have here a Little Mark Tube 500 in perfect working order. It does have some superficial exterior marks so please look at the photos. It came to me like this and I've never actually used it as it was intended as a back up. Link to Markbass product page http://www.markbass....tail.php?id=102 Price includes UK delivery. A small reduction would be made for anyone collecting (from Cambs or Milton Keynes). No trades thanks, unless you've a Fender Rumble 210 or 115 extension cab! 9. yup for a regular tele deluxe you're right. These are specific to this guitar. To be honest they don't sound a lot different.
10. That's the one! I didn't know anything about it and came across it when looking for a custom. It's quite un-tele like but very well made and sounds lovely. Mexican and comes with vintage style Fender hardcase, all for under £500 which I thought was a bargain. I was expecting the output to be hot but I don't really think it is, especially when I compare it to my other telecasters. Really don't know why Fender insist on sticking 9s on their guitars from new though.
11. Can the observant ones amongst you name this guitar and it's bass counterpart? 12. Can you? Yes you can if you use a Badass II - it's a five screw fitting, the same as yours. The problem here will be finding a Badass as they're not made any more. You may be better off sourcing a Fender Hi Mass or Gotoh 201 or Babicz. Should you? Some say yes, some say no. I've basses with and without and can't notice any difference apart from looks and even there it depends on whether you think the big lumps detract from the overall aesthetic.
13. We research every venue and have a running diary of events that are happening in the year. How many of you have got the key Euro16 dates in your diaries? Or the Olympics for example? Whilst cancelling at the last moment is bad form on the part of the venue, we can help ourselves by checking to see if the venue is one that televises major events and if they are planned for. Even if not, you may wish to avoid gigging that evening as turnout could be low. OK some places are going to say, "yes we've considered that" when they haven't but prompting some venues could avoid a bit of pain.
14.
I'm glad I am no longer in that segment of the business. Stay away from competitions , charities and benefits. Blue
This is also my view. Bands playing for nothing is entirely up to them but I have found that organisers/promoters often take advantage as a result.
15. As most of us, I've tried loads until I found the ones that felt and sounded right. I tend to go now for nickel rounds. Rotosound 66s went off too soon and made my fingers feel far too sore. They were too stiff also Elites I just hated everything about them Elixirs are nice but in my rankings superseded by D'Addario XLs. The balanced tensioned ones are ace. I'm using these more and more as they are great value for money. The Fender 7250s I was surprised with - nice feel and sound - and I buy them if I ever come across a bargain. I prefer the Fender 7150 pure nickel though. Ultimately I keep returning to DR Sunbeams though, although they are expensive. Great feel, longevity and tone.
16. Was it advertised as true bypass in the description and/or did you buy it for that reason?
17. I went to a function last week and the band was a (IMHO) a very good disco/funk band. Don't know if the bass player is a member here but here they are with Everybody Dance. He had a great sound - a very sparkly Stingray... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PR9ROfADwkk

19. I've got both of these (the Hypergravity and the Spectracomp). Both are brilliant and using the editor you can assign three parameters to the single knob of the Spectracomp which then increase or decrease uniformly. So basically you can assign very similar mappings to both pedals. I think TC are releasing a Spectracomp toneprint for the HG. I'd be very interested in your review Dood! Steve
20. No worries from my side, it would just be a shame for you not to get all that info! FWIW I've flown frequently with hiscox cases going in the hold with no issues, even on budget flights.
21. I came back to your thread here Karl, as it is being sold an another Facebook group (not the one you commented on) by the person who you call the original seller, so one bass, two different sellers (albeit the same surname). Steve
22. There's a six page pinned thread about this - might help with some of your questions? http://basschat.co.uk/topic/41208-flying-with-instruments-my-guide/page__pid__2922467__st__150#entry2922467
23. I have small hands, well short stubby fingers anyway and an important technique I was taught was left hand thumb positioning. Floating the left thumb along the centre of the neck allows a greater more relaxed range for the remaining fingers as opposed the wrapping the thumb over the edge of the fret board and holding the neck like a baseball bat which I see all too often. Many people with small hands say they need a short scale or jazz neck and can't play five strings etc but adopting an appropriate technique means you don't have to rule out any particular guitars.
24.
It's a Highway One Precision. These had a thinner coat that was intended to wear more quickly... they were also a fair bit cheaper than the USA Series basses.
Yup, I agree. Different tuners, greasebucket tone circuit, no through body stringing, different finish. The Highway ONE ( as opposed to the earlier Highway 1) did come with a BadAss II as standard IIRC.
25. This is a superb price and the S1 switch gives a very good useable Precision type tone. Can't see it being here long.
