1. I've seen Mexican Squiers that have a headstock like that but not Japanese.
2.
Don't wait till you think you're good enough to join a band before you join a band.

"Play what the song needs and not what you want or can play" was a good piece of advice i got years ago. "always look as though you know what you are doing" "if you look confident when playing then even a mistake will pass unnoticed by an audience" Dave

If you mess up, tell people you play a lot of jazz.
All very good advice.
3. They're great! I have one in my Jazz. Most of the venues I play provide a backline. So instead of playing about with the EQ of an unfamiliar amp, I just set everything at flat and use the retro to get my sound. It will give your Mex Jazz a whole new lease of life.
4. Awwww.....my old amp....sigh.
5. I've played through a 100w version a few times, at a venue my band regularly play at. It's pretty loud and incredibly light. I played through the 500w combo (at low volumes) and it was almost as light as the 100w version (ie you can pick it up with one finger type of light).
6. Stratosphere sell secondhand bass parts. Who knows where they get them from? But one thing's for sure, they will be making a profit or they wouldn't be selling them.
7. I've chopped and changed the pickups in my Precision and now have Fender custom shop pickups, that cost me about £100. I've tried el cheapo Squiers, vintage 1970's Seymour Duncans and now the CS jobs, But frankly, nobody can hear the difference except me. Recorded, the custom shop ones sound a bit wider in the mix (if you know what I mean?) but playing with a band there is no discernible difference.
8. May he Rest in Piss.

10.
Hi Guys, bought a Squier Affinity j Bass, trying to get into slap Bass style..problem is E string, really bad twangy fret noise and buzzing. Took it to a Luthier who adjusted the relief and the bridge..nice low set up and action now but still got that really annoying fret twang, I'm using 45-105 strings...anyone got any ideas...?
Watch these videos and once you've watched them all, you'll be able to set up your own bass (it really isn't difficult). http://youtu.be/te44eWXd9pc
11. When I saw this video my love for Grace, which I thought was extinguished, was reignited. I think the queen should move over..... and let Grace take over. http://youtu.be/vSa5EvWqB7g
12. We're heading to London as I type. Lock up yer grannies!

15. My Jazz bass is sonic blue. I've always wanted a sonic blue Jazz Bass because I think they look cooooool. My drummer said he thought it looked sh*t. He likes black basses. Oh well.
16. What a bunch of old bar stewards we are.
17. I'll be in London next week for a gig. My hotel is not far from this shop. I dare not go in.
18. I check in everyday, but usually just check out stuff for sale and click 'view new content' for a general overview of things. I'm not really interested in ' Off Topic' as it can get a bit heated there. There were one or two people, who have disappeared, whose opinions on bass (and other things) were well worth reading (Outtoplayjazz and xilddx being two). And it was sad to see them go. As long as I still play bass, I assume I'll continue to pop my head in now and again.
19. It's weird. A venue I play in regularly, has recently asked me to turn up the onstage amp. In fact on two different nights, different engineers have come up onto the stage and turned the gain up on the amp, to get more volume coming from the stage. I thought to myself 'that's NEVER happened before, how weird?'. It's an Ampeg PF 500 which has a post and pre button (which was switched to pre) and a -40db cut button at the back, which was activated. The second time this happened, I assumed this was the problem so un-activated it. The engineer must have had the fader up full and the resultant signal almost blew the speakers. Is the DI signal on these amps THAT high, that they need to cut it by 40db? Or are the sound engineers in the venue just not very good?
20. The Dana Dixon Band, with yours truly on bass and Evan Jenkins on drums (Matt Schofield Trio). http://theblueskitchen.com/camden/whats-on/atlantic-soul-orchestra-dana-dixon-band-djs-til-3am/
21. Here's a review from a basschatter http://basschat.co.u..._1#entry2290162
22. Given an infinite number of years and an infinite number of gigs, eventually (unless you keep it in a case under your bed forever) you will get a ding in your lovely bass. It just so happened to be the drummer that dinged it and not you. Feel grateful that it was your bass and not your car that got dinged. My guitarist drove his Chelsea tractor into the side of my VW Polo the other day. Luckily it is 14 years old and a bit 'roadworn'. But I had to take a deep breath and be philosophical about it.
23. I think that the adice given on basschat previously, by people better quaified than myself, is that as long as you use your ears you should be fine. If you hear the speaker farting out, turn it down,
24. A Stingray is an expensive, premium, professional, great sounding, instrument. Your amp is entry level and priced for beginners. You could buy 6 TC combos for the price of a new Stingray. If you invest in an amp, that will let you hear you bass accurately at high volume, your problem will be solved.
25. Aha! At last the Barefaced Compact is up for sale! Unfortunately I bought one a couple of months ago Oh well, have a bump on me.
