I play in 2 bands at the moment. One is a long established, busy gigging band, with musicians of a professional level. The second band is a collection of more amateur, less experienced musicians, who love getting together and playing music for their own pleasure. I like rehearsing with the second band but love playing gigs with the first one. Music is meant to be played in front of an audience, it's meant to be shared. Playing live gigs is where the magic happens.

Dear Guitarists and bassists.. Trus rod etiquette.

Neither did I. Then when I did eventually pluck the courage up to adjust it, it had locked solid. -

I'm from the future. I wrote that on the 1st of November 2019 😃

Stuff has happened since 2007. In 2009 you could get two dollars to the pound. The pound has lost 80% of its value since then.

It's very rare that I don't enjoy a gig. Even if it's a small crowd and they're not really into it, I get a lot from the experience. It boosts my serotonin levels. I suppose I'm lucky that I've played with some decent musicians and singers over the years.

My Barefaced Compact sounds excellent at medium levels but ever better when my band are really going for it. I was playing a gig, a year or so ago, where I could get a fair distance away from the rest of the band and the sound was awesome. A really tight, articulate, rocky sound. The amp I was using, on that gig was a 500 watt Ashdown MiBass head. I confess I almost drowned out our rather loud drummer that night. No woolliness, or farting out through that rig. My GK MB800 is even louder through that cab and clear as a bell.

His tuning method is very logical.

Dodgy deal via Gumtree? PayPal protection??
gjones replied to solo4652's topic in General Discussion
Nah.... There are so many ways to scam people out of their money on Gumtree and this sounds like one of them. Take cash, at your door, from the person who is buying directly from you, or don't sell it at all. -
I have had to draw the line with my country band, as to how many new songs we can learn. They're not gig orientated, they just love country music. So I had to explain to them that 20 songs that we know well and can play tightly at a gig, is better than 40 songs that we know vaguely and can stumble our way through, in a shambolic manner. I'm forming another band, with other musicians, and I was very impressed by the two guitarists, who were very focused and had done their homework before the rehearsal.

Music stands - are they as common as I think?

Friends of mine, who play and sing, are getting to a certain age. It's an aid to early onset dementia -
They are SERIOUSLY loud. My MB500, plus Barefaced Compact, would empty the bowels of a room full of people if I turned it up full. I also have the MB800 which takes 'silly loud' to another extreme (bought that to power my BC Super Compact, which needs a bit more grunt). Very clean amp and very small. They go stupidly cheap secondhand. Never figured out why?

They brought back the antigua paintjob for a while, about 10 years ago.

Ray Wilson as Genesis front man.

I'm the roadie for my niece, Stina from Honeyblood, up at Solas in Perthshire on Saturday. She's doing a solo gig.

It may not be the bridge. Sometimes you just need to loosen the neck, adjust it so that the G string is no longer too near the edge of the fingerboard, and then re-tighten it.

I would email John East. When I had problems with my j retro, he fixed it free of charge.

Are there any Fender P with a J neck as standard?
gjones replied to fretmeister's topic in Bass Guitars
MIM Fender Deluxe has a Jazz Neck. Also the Nate Mendel signature has a slimmer than normal neck. -
I understand Mr Bonamassa's point of view, that the sound of his amp, driven to a certain level, creates his particular sound and when he's asked to turn down by the sound engineer, he can no longer get that sound. On the other hand we have bass players, including me, who spend a fortune on getting the best amp and cab that we can afford, then allow the sound engineer to take a DI (usually pre EQ) from our very, expensive amp, straight to the front of house desk, without a squeak of protest. Hmmmmm?

I went to see the band last night in Edinburgh. They were great. Slightly concerned that the sellout crowd appeared to be mostly middle aged men? Odd......

Super cabs barefaced etc...210 or 12 with a GK MB 500?
gjones replied to misterdistortion's topic in Amps and Cabs
I have a super compact as well as a compact. The super compact is not as loud as the compact and struggled, to keep up with a loud drummer, with the MB500 through it. I had to buy a MB800 to drive it, which seems to have done the trick.
