  1. Taxes on fags probably. ....don't forget, somebody has to pay for the nuclear missiles and MPs pay rises.
  2. Pino married a 'Wealthy Tart'.
  3. Good points: It's light, small, cheap (bought £165 secondhand), sounds great and loud enough to gig with, as long as your drummer is not an animal. Bad points: I can't think of any bad points.
  4. I have a Hartke Hydrive 112, which has a high frequency horn fitted, which is very 'fizzy'. if you know what I mean (I usually switch it off when I'm playing bass through it). That and my Gallien-Krueger MB500, makes a very effective guitar amp. The clean sound is crystal clear but you need to use a pedal to get a dirty sound.
  5. I have a USA vintage 75 reissue and a MIM 70s classic too. If I was asked which one had the shallower neck, I would probably say it was the 75. Interesting to know it's just the shape of the neck that gives that impression.
  6. Can I ask if that's a Sterling Ray 4 you're playing, or a USA Musicman Stingray? They both sound great.
  7. That's a Japanese Standard. The Japanese version of a Mexican Standard I suppose. Most of the MIJ basses I've owned were reissues of 50s, 60s or 70s Fender basses.
  8. Yes
  9. Looks like a Squier standard. They usually have the serial number on the back of the headstock. I used to have one, they are decent basses.
  10. To show how optimistic I am, that by this time next year this covid 19 malarky will be over and done with, I just bought myself a Markbass CMD Mini 121P. I got it secondhand and it's brand new, with the new leather handle (possibly from somebody who isn't quite so optimistic as I am). Sounds good at livingroom levels, let's hope one day soon(ish) I'll be playing it at gig level.
  11. Back in the 80s, I had the 210 version, which would fart like a buffalo if you turned it up beyond 2 on the master. I had a friend who had this version and it sounded ok, with his, new fangled, Japanese, Westone Thunder through it.
  12. That sounds just like the Albert King version? The singer is great.
  13. What junkie could carry it more that 20ft? The fact that they didn't take the flight case makes me think they had no transport and needed to cut down the weight, as they were on foot. I recommend having a wander around the area, as they may have stashed it somewhere to pick up later, when they have wheels.
  14. In the 90s there was a lot of mockney about. Lilly Allen does a good mockney accent too. I like the singer in The Artic Monkeys accent. It sounds like George Formby fronting a rock band.
  15. The elixirs on my MIJ 57 P bass sound like the dogs wotsits.
  16. You can make roundwounds sound like flats but you can't make flatwounds sound like roundwounds. Just saying..... 😉
  17. I'm not sure 'You Make Loving Fun' was about a bass player. Ssshh....don't tell John Mcvie (although he's probably over it by now).
  18. I'm sure I can remember a Topic on basschat, where the guy who started it wanted all the machine heads on his headstock to point in the same direction, when it was in tune. Own up, who was it?
  19. I bought a Hartke 112 a few years ago, looking for a one cab solution for playing live. It wasn't loud enough for playing live but it does tick all of your boxes, as it definitely sizzles. even with the horn off it's very bright. Secondhand they go for about £100.
  20. ....and they lived happily ever after 😂
  21. I've been in a band, for 15 years, where the singer and guitarist are married. When I first joined they used to have incredible on stage rows. Many a time the singer would, half way through a gig, get the hump and walk off stage and eff off home. The audience thought it was part of the act. Weirdly, they said they never argued at home, just when they were on stage.
  22. We were playing at about 90 decibels. If the fan was on, I wouldn't have heard it But it sounded excellent and it would be a bargain at £229.
  23. The 500 watt one through an Eden 410.
  24. I know what you mean. It's like a made in China Cadillac, it's not the real thing. For many years I had to slum it, and make do with MIJ fenders because I couldn't afford the US version. I now have 3 US Fenders, 3 MIJ ones and Chinese Classic Vibe Squier. My brain tells me there's really no difference in quality but I still have a soft spot for the US ones.
  25. I tried one of those Edens, in a local rehearsal room, last year and it sounded great. Up until then I'd never played through one.
