Last time I saw any action in Boston's, was when I was on a bus going past and I saw a large number of Rastafarians emptying it's contents into the back of a luton van. This was after the owner and his son had been sent away to a government holiday camp.

I know the Fender road worn Jazzes have been discontinued and the old stock, that is still available in shops, is now selling for silly money.

Our old drummer had severe OCD. He would take hours to actually get out of the house (I assume he was checking everything 3 times) and was inevitably late for every gig. At the end of the night he had to go through the ritual of counting all his cymbals, multiple times, to make sure he had them all (he only had 5 including the hi hat), which meant it would take at least an hour for him to get his kit packed away. Which was a pain, as he was usually giving me a lift back home. Once I got my own car, I'd be away home 10 mins after the gig and just left him to count his cymbals to his hearts content.

I know a few artists who are signed to record companies but make the lion's share of their income gigging. Some are setting up patreon accounts and reaching out to their fanbase to give them an income stream. The longer this goes on, the more difficult making a living will be.

Somebody didn't think that rule through. Duh!

Name the bassist by the bass - difficulty level='basschat'

I got 3! Do I get an ice cream? -
I never knew there could be such a thing, as a bass guitar worth £22,000 . Did they make a mistake and think it was a guitar? Reminds me of that funny story, about the groupie who accidentally slept with the bass player because she thought he was a guitarist 😊

We have a lot in common. We're the same age. She shaves her head - me too (well over the lockdown I did). She fell in love with Olivia Newton John when she was 14 - what an incredible coincidence, me too. Her favourite band is the Carpenters - ummm.....not really. I have a beard - okay, we're not that alike after all. She's an incredible bass player - ☹️

Yes, you're probably right. They will also buy them as an investment, rather than to play. The problem is authenticating something, that may cost thousands to buy. The years I've spent on Bass Chat have taught me how easy it is, for a good luthier, to produce a road worn bass, that could easily trick the experts.

How to make your bass sound better - Play it.
gjones replied to BassApprentice's topic in Bass Guitars
A bass that sounds good acoustically, tends to sound good amplified. That's what I've noticed with my own basses (I have 12). My favourite bass is a mix and match Fender Jazz, that I put together from Japanese parts. It's very loud and resonant, when played acoustically. Time may have an effect on the wood of an instrument. But I think a guitar can also sound great, brand new and straight out of the box, like my 2017 Precision. -
Mamas Gun, who are a London Soul band. They're so, so, good.

The one in my local rehearsal room sounds great in the mix, with the band. I own a MiBass 550 and an ABM Evo III and would definitely consider buying one of these. But I'll wait until gigs start again, if they ever do, before I spend any dosh,

I thought the Super Compact would be a one cab solution but I found out, with a 550w amp, at 4 ohms, it has a difficulty keeping up with a loud drummer. I ended up upgrading to an 800w amp, which made a difference. In the end I just went back to my old Barefaced Compact 1x15, which is more than able to be loud enough in all band situations.

Not sure if I can be bothered to go back to gigging
gjones replied to BobVbass's topic in General Discussion
Even in Scotland, where the new infection rate is now very low, I wouldn't want to play in a crowded bar. But, it's not an option at the moment, I doubt venues will be allowed to have loud music for a few months yet. -

I play in 3 bands, The first one is a pretty, pro quality, gigging band. The other two bands I'm in, talk about gigging, but I don't know if their hearts are in it. I enjoy rehearsing but I do love gigging in a band with good confident players. Some musicians only come alive when they're onstage. There is a great exchange of energy at a gig between band and audience, full of sweaty punters, having a good time. -

I suppose if you have an iffy band, or don't get on with your bandmates, this enforced break might feel like a good thing. But I like my bandmates and the music we play and am desperate to get back to playing (when it's safe/safer to do so). -
I do like a sunburst and maple neck on a Stingray.

Limiting the Length of Threads/Adding new Categories

I think this threads gone on too long. -
Best Precision sound I ever got, was out of one of these. Our band supported a Ska band whose bassist owned one that he let me play through. It was pretty loud as well. It was only a couple of years ago and was a vintage combo but sounded great. The sound engineer commented on the sound as well. I loved it but I didn't try to pick it up. They're darned heavy wee things, or so I've been told

I have more than enough amps and cabs and more basses than a man should ever need. But it doesn't stop me lurking on Basschat and Ebay. The only thing I now lust after, is a sonic blue Jazz bass. It would be cheaper to just get a refinish on one of my other Jazzes than buy one new, or secondhand. Which would be the sensible thing to do. But still I lurk.

I need a nut filed, I'll try what you suggest and report back.

Looks and sound great.
