Plan C: Cut the neck / body parallel to the strings so that you have the equivalent of a 'neck through' . Construct new upper and lower body wings of your desired shape and glue them to the 'through neck'. This method keeps the neck alignment and will be easier than extracting the neck. ( Not seeing the cracks clearly, I am aware this plan might not work).

SB1 in my possession for 25 ~ 26 years. Why: Build quality, MFD pickup tone, just stays in tune and, at the time of purchase G&L were relatively unknown and thus excellent value.

Gibson EB2 - which I had in my youth. Now just too costly for what they will do, other better priced alternatives are available and I clearly remember why I moved it on. Now if an EB2D appeared at the right price ........ Hiwatt 200 - which I had in my youth. Now just too heavy......

Super quality work as always. How do you rate the Veritas pullshave? It looks really useful and I can envisage archtop carving with it.

Lovely looking bass of that era. Have always wondered how much of a 'neck diver'. Price is a bit strong for me to take a 'punt'

You are left wondering why a certain USA major guitar manufacturing company does not produce items of this quality and appearance (unless they have passed me by). Someone on BC should be getting 'head hunted' by the aforesaid USA guitar company .

Which Marshall? In my youth I used a Marshall !00W valve amp, non master volume for bass. No problem. I preferred my subsequent Hiwatt custom 100 though. 100W head into headphones will require careful use of the volume controls. I often use an open back guitar combo for [b]low[/b] volume bass, can get some nice tones as well.

PCB jack sockets can go faulty. Fender 'red knob' amps suffer from this with little use. Sadly replacement my not be simple.

Have a good look at the for sale forum in this parish. You will be surprised at what is about for the money.

Do you have the amp in a rack case? If so, loop the cable around and through the case handle. Cable not in contact with cab, any pull / tug from bass will be on the handle rather than removing from socket. If not in a case your temp cure may be the simplest long term. If you are really determined it may be possible to bend / tweak the jack socket inside the amp so that the tip is gripped more firmly.

Thank you for appreciation, my life philosophy is 'more brains prevent mistakes'.... assuming we have people with brains I have valued input and suggestions in my bass build as well.

The on/off issue with the fully enclosed design could be resolved by having a hole in the cover plate. The Mk1 finger could be inserted into the hole. Not elegant but it would retain the 'traditional' bass appearance. The 'slot in side' design will be ergonomically easier to use: strap bass on, reach and press on/off button. Developing this thought further (and helped by Andy's pictures), the unit could be fitted in the top /forearm section of the bass - like the tuner / eq units on electro-acoustic basses. Second jack socket fitted to body in usual place.

Where has the bass been? In car overnight, colder room, warmer room etc, anywhere different to usual? Climate changes can cause issues especially if your bass is adjusted to a super low action. I just use 3.5mm (or more) action at 12th fret, cures 99% of issues dead

Gelfin, your 'sketch;'powers are better than mine. My variant was totally enclosed inside the body with a second jack socket to the outside world. Sketches have been pmd to Andy.

Combo with plate amp would be my way forward. As an end user I could the use Sansamp, Alembic, Behringer, Zoom, Pod etc etc in whatever flavour I fancied. Combos have a likeable simplicity, I carry my bass case in one hand, combo in the other. Remove bass and lead, plug in and play. I currently use a bass head (middleweight) with BF cab and realise that it is not much more effort really

Some skilled fingerboard recess routing up ahead I know the feeling about the wimpy scroll saw and band saw. WRT the radio transmitter, could it fit into an internal recess combined with a second internal jack socket. The best way I can describe (without sorting a sketch to upload) is: Imagine a telecaster type control rout, wide and long enough for the radio transmitter. At the 'pickup switch' end of the cavity drill / rout a blind 12mm hole / channel for a jack socket- this is going further into the body, parallel to the body, heading towards the lower bout. Fit the jack socket to the 'blind' hole with parallel wiring to the 'regular' cable type jack socket. Cover the whole arrangement with the rear control plate. The transmitter should work through the 10~ 15 mm of front body timber, an experiment many be needed. Andy if the description makes no sense I will sketch for you.

As suggested by BigRedX wind the micro tilt in and shim with something with a bit of friction e.g. thin cork. In addition you could shim the side of the neck into the pocket, aluminum foil, ptfe sheet, wood veneer. I seem to remember this being a fairly standard procedure in the late 70s early 80s. My 1977 4 bolt P bass was sufficiently misaligned that I wrote to Fender UK - I got a pleasant reply and manual, problem sorted.

Enjoy the different phases, as stated above it goes very fast. In what seems no time at all you will end up with a grown up an wonder where did the time go.

New born baby being woken by db? 'New baby' is the db and physical hand effort is tiring?
