  1. This has made a big difference to my ability to function on the next day
  2. Four gigging fitness aspects seem to affect me. All mentioned in the thread by others: 1. The physical bass playing, I wonder how many notes I play in a night, until recently I rehearsed for about 8 hours weekly, hand strength, back strength no problem. 2. Concentration, I now find being 'on it' for 3 - 4 hours increasingly hard, pa problem solving then instant switch to musical stuff, blunders happen due to concentration fails. 3. Moving kit, even with lightweight kit (and the pa is not) it is all too easy to damage yourself - rotator cuff injury anyone. 4. Driving 2 hours to a gig in the daylight can be very pleasant on a sunny day. Driving back in the dark after doing the business is no longer fun. The result is that I am usually shattered the day after, at nearly 67 age is catching up despite pretty good fitness. Hence, my decision to scale back my musical efforts - I do not need 30 gigs per year.
  3. Surprisingly loud for 30W and bomb proof. Good sounds and highly portable.
  4. Chipped in as part of the BC support network, you never know. Good luck in the next phase of life's journey.
  5. I had a bass that would not intonate the G, to the point that I started to wonder if the bridge had insufficient adjustment. The cause was a duff string even though the string sounded fine. Worth trying, it seems highly improbable that the Cort has a fret distance problem.
  6. Also owning one, they are great little desks, and at that price a steal.
  7. I need to be replaced in The Classic Blues Show. This is not your pub type blues band, have a look at the website: https://theclassicbluesshow.co.uk Members based around Mid Wales, Shropshire and Worcestershire The set is classic blues, you can have all my music crib sheets which will speed matters up, there are full set recordings and I will help if it is required. There is no pressure to play the material exactly as per recordings, it is evolving. The starting date is flexible, sooner would be better, I will step down after November at the latest. We aim to get 20 gigs per year (see the events schedule), bookings for the 2026 are being organised now. The fees are variable, from memory the best was £230 (Shrewsbury Abbey last year). A super set of musicians who are all highly experienced with a professional approach and outlook. Everyone is a pleasure to work with, my reason for departure is a house restoration. pm with your details and I will get them to the band.
  8. Reassuringly light, 2 x Eminence 3015LF, endless volume. No tweetery top end which suits my bass tone. Best bass cab I own.
  9. At one point I dabbled at Jazz guitar using my 15" BW bass combo. It was remarkably good sounding for guitar (I hasten to add my playing was not).
  10. A big loss to bc and humanity in general. I always found Sam to be highly supportive, intelligent and just good to chat with in many pms over the last few years. Sad news.
  11. I can confirm fitting Hipshots to mine cured the neck dive. A great lightweight bass for someone. GLWTS.
  12. Is this gold colour or chrome finish? I suspect gc but photos can be deceptive.
  13. Yes, I used it for a lot of recording and live work with a fretless Warwick. Dead easy to get a good (enough for me) tone. Well built.
  14. Nothing is simple, as one problem is overcome another one appears as a consequence

Following your first survey (and the advice above) you can carry out subsequent survey(s) to explore points that the first survey suggests for further exploration. Hint - As part of your research methods I am sure you you will have "trialled and discussed the (first) survey" with a critical friend prior to using it. In this discussion your critical friend will have raised issues with your survey which caused you to change some of the questions e.g. blah blah. During the survey several participants thoughtfully provided critique of the questions which caused me to reflect on bias I may have introduced. I will discuss the implications of this on the reliability and validity of my work later. Enjoy.
  16. I rate both my VT Deluxe and MXR M80, plenty of control available and phantom power is a great thing imo. Beyond that in a live setting I do not get too bothered about what DI/pre I am using, most effort is expended on managing how the room. the audience and the pa impact on getting a reasonable bass tone in the room. Today, we did some live video recordings in our rehearsal hall, the light was way to bright so we pulled the blinds down. Sound was ok no more than that. Afterwards we lifted the blinds up, played same stuff again, no changes to the kit/settings (less mistakes though lol), the sound was way better - go figure. Recording otoh is a totally different matter.

  18. @Happy Jack could help resolve the earthed / not earthed question with a quick multimeter continuity check. I suspect unearthed. Another solution would be to use an active EMG pickup, fit the battery inside the sliding part, no need for an earth.
  19. Received some Spiro Weichs from Roberto. Excellent communication, well packed and very quick posting. Many thanks to a first rate BC chap.
  20. Find a local nut/bolt/fasteners supplier. Call in with the saddle, you will probably walk out having paid 50p to £1 and have a full set of the required part. I use Bearing Man, (BML) locally. Exceptionally helpful.
  21. Likewise, what a great bit of kit.... heads towards shed to make sawdust 🪚
  22. Explains why the milestones are such a bargain used, the last one I bought was £80, including a Hiscox hard case. Well made and light.
  23. It can be done, this is 31" scale roughly. https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/454930-and-now-for-something-completely-different/#comment-4749708 The next variant will have an adjustable stainless steel tube to provide an upper bout. This will make adding the lead weight unnecessary, hence lighter still.
  24. Three of my fretless basses are unlined, two are lined (don't ask, I have been playing for over 50 years... one owned from 1978/9) I prefer unlined, lines are no problem, but for me, the side dots have to be at 3,5,7 etc. not in between as fretted ones are. The bass I have owned from 78/79 has a novel arrangement, there is a dot at 10, not 9. I only noticed that after about 44 years of owning it, go figure!
