  1. In 50 years of playing live, only ever been asked once. It proved somewhat difficult as it was a ceilidh band playing trad tunes. We named the English Folk Dance Society as the copyright holder. Hope they got some royalties.
  2. The complication is the glue repair that has been made before. A bit of a known unknown, the more I look at it the more certain I am that I would be micro drilling the glue line to prevent damage to the binding. Calling @Andyjr1515 or @Manton Customs for the serious advice.
  3. Apologies if this is what you already know. About 3:00 this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vGuNhXlX4a4&t=646s has a an explanation of nut removal on a maple neck. Looking at yours, I would cut through (length-ways) between the nut end and the binding to stop the binding being damaged if glue has got in there. If that proves difficult you could get a small drill (Lidl micro drills this week) and carefully drill a series of small holes in the nut close to the binding (I would do these by hand rather than power tool). Get the nut out and then clean up the binding with a scalpel.
  4. Amazing retro in 'bedroom use' condition. Quite stunning, seem to remember a guitarist I worked with in the mid/late 70s had a 'padded' Kustom combo.
  5. Given the 🔥 in this discussion, I will reiterate the advice that @Pirellithecat should contact EMG and seek their advice over the specific situation. I would be interested in the result, my SG bass pickups really interact with each other, I have often thought an active op amp mixer circuit might be the way forward.
  6. I have found the same for recording my basses. Seems to need very little post processing in the music I am involved in. For small space gigs I have used bass direct into A&H ZEDFX HiZ mixer input, ditto mrs 3below's telecaster or acoustic guitars. Works well enough. If I feel really keen we use various sansamps or the great value Joyo american sound pedal.
  7. As per @TheGreek , "As a non supporting, but long standing member I really don't like the idea of BC "selling" my info without my consent." I will be also considering leaving, although not a supporting member I have purchased a vast amount of kit from supporting members (too much!). Privacy Badger currently shows 5 trackers, Ezoic as mentioned previously and Quantserve - Guardian article interesting https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2012/apr/23/quantcast-tracking-trackers-cookies-web-monitoring. AdblockPlus shows 60 items blocked on this thread page. I understand the tension between funding (running) BC and the views of the community that create the content of BC i.e. the people (us) who are BC. It would be interesting to know how many supporting members are needed to make it viable without 'selling out' our data. Yes, I should put my money into being a supporter, I just need to get round to it but will now wait to see what develops.
  8. Never seen that before, you would think they would follow two failures like with some degree of interest.
  9. Some basses do, some don't, even with the same strings. My SG bass is a real live wire to play, plenty of good resonance.
  10. I have encountered knockoffs that would work in some sockets and not others (even though they inserted correctly). Not worth the hassle given the price difference as @Dan Dare says.
  11. Drastic mass reduction might require routing cutouts, think Ibanez jem guitar but done tastefully in keeping with your design. Keep on with it, part of the fun is getting yourself out of the blunders. You have got this far, it is all good skill building stuff. Next time you won't make the same mistakes new ones will just appear
  12. It will be interesting to see how such a highly talented bassist progresses. You Tube etc. shows that there are so many outstanding musicians / bands around that talent is not enough. Lucky breaks, knowing the right people, being in the right place at the right time all help as well.
  13. SansAmp RB-1 (or sometimes SansAmp Leeds pedal) > Crown XLS 1502 single channel> BF Dusbster. Seems to be adequate, I use a 35Hz high pass filter with the XLS 1502 DSP.
  14. Landed Festival, Mid Wales, Friday night. Excellent PA and really well mixed. The stage (trailer) seemed to absorb the sound and for the first time ever, BF Dubster and Peavey Tour 700 required PA support as well. Chowny fretless (another BC purchase) worked really well. Band is called Glyderau (a Welsh mountain range), all original material. Magus is Ben Grant, Freelance sound engineer, PA Hire & Location Recording, who ran the sound system - really good. The chappie on the right clearly enjoyed himself.
  15. Used Peavey milestone or just look through BC basses for sale. There are some excellent value basses which may well prevent the need to buy something else later.
  16. A problem which I can fully relate to. I should really move some 34" scale basses on. Am I ever going to play X (too heavy) or Y (too sentimentally valuable) at a gig but....
  17. I would just re-iterate @Smanth comment about needing a really really (and some more really) light touch. I don't find intonation and string stretch much of an issue (Goldtone solid body, 23" scale fretless, Aquila Thunder Browns). With my heavy right hand technique I just have to work on avoiding growl / buzz.
  18. Should be possible, given the spec ( 4 cables = PWM, 3 cables = DC control). There are plenty of 'silent' / low noise PC fans about in a range of sizes at a range of prices, sane to exotic.
  19. With "nearly 20 years of bass playing" and "hunting for tabs and then being insanely critical of myself that I can't figure out or play every note exactly how it is in the recording" you have got the mechanics pretty sorted, The biggest improvements in my playing have come about when I have had to really listen to the music being played- for want of a better phrase "getting my ear in" and playing in a context where there has been little (no) room for bass blunders. This combined with supportive band members who are musically way better than me has made the difference. Keep going and enjoy it No need for more kit.
  20. Looking at the images again, if the neck dots (not the fingerboard ones) 'offend' you too much I am sure a skilled furniture restorer or suitable luthier would be able to sort them out to the point of virtual invisibility. As said many times, it is a nice bass, I would be more than happy with it in my bass fleet.
  21. I experienced a bass that would not intonate and played out of tune when the 12th fret intonation was correct. The cause was a faulty G string, from new. It took a while to find this, the first faulty string I have encountered in 50+ years of playing. I would keep it as it is, it looks like a really nice example, good upgrades and big bonus, an ebony fretless board.
  22. Bought some flatwound strings from Matt. Excellent communication and rapid arrival of the strings. First rate.
  23. Amazingly I have one have one of these, bought from BC many years ago. Surprisingly for the body shape, It has no neck dive and is remarkably light weight. A really nice thing to play. Google it and you will find very little information about them (unless new info has appeared). At one time the only images I could find were of the BC listing of mine.
