1. All's fair. Besides, he can drive the band around.
2.
Out of interest, in what form are you writing them down to come back to later?
I'd be curious too. I normally sketch things out in tab - very much like shorthand, it's useful if you're thinking through something, say at your desk, and you just want to make a quick note of it.
3. Wow, that's very cool.
4.
Cheers mate! I had a feeling you might get involved!
My love for this old bass is well known
5. Anyway, allow me to vajazzle this thread, or something. Now for something complete different... 1984 BC Rich Nagoya Japan ('NJ') Eagle. Lightweight, with hot pick-ups, this has been a fond go-to bass for when you need to rock out. It's been nicely mojo'ed over the years, and joined me from Shockwave. It's quite a tasteful bass
6. Just to confirm, this bass is totally boss And very mojo
7. Christ, well done Howard / Bass Doc - this is stunning, really, really stunning. There aren't many basses I really look at and thing "that is something else", but this is definitely one to get the reaction.
8. I'd quite like one - but am pretty sure I could do the relicing for myself, give me a decade or so
9. Nice mate
10. Quick question lads: isn't the truss rod access normally up at the headstock?
11.
I got an offer from an elderly couple.
Be wary. They grew up in a different age.
12.
Nothing like a freshly polished knob, eh?
I couldn't comment. Does take it out of the wrists, however.
13.
Snap - after ooh, days deliberating I got this at the weekend- serial number dates it to 1999 Unsung Korea - really quite chuffed with myself!!
How are you finding the bass, Donny? I've always resisted the Epi SG - hanging in for a suitable Gibson to present itself locally, but not a sniff thus far. I did have a go with a brand new SG in Banks, in York, and it was pretty cool; but could barely rock out with it mid-shop and put it through it's paces.
14. Pics or GTFO But yes, I always clean my basses when I get them - out comes the chrome polish and I'm off
15.
Probably be a huge price increase as well.
Oh yes!
16. Ahhhhh... much better Glad you like the MTD. I had a cheaper Kingston Heir, and was very, very impressed by it. The sound was very refined - which I think is my version of your "fuller"
17. Headstock shot would be ideal, if you're able to obtain one from the seller.
18. This is a good start. But, if this were a porn movie, we'd only have had enjoyed some suggestive talk - oh is that the repair man; my what a big tool; I think you should screw it in; ad oohlala. We need product, notts. We need product.
19.
MTD KZ4 Bass
Ooh, very nice... but it's pics or GTFO on this forum
20. I'd love to be in this situation. My current band have had some big breaks whilst we took the time to find a new singer - I feel like I'm sitting on my hands, waiting for something to happen! Good on you, I say.
21.
in the post-modern era, does 'authenticity' have any meaning ?
I doubt it. Is it more authentic to form your own outlet for your music; or to be honest about being manufactured? I doubt there's a single definition worth anything to all people. It will be entirely individual, because using the term "authentic" requires a value judgement - something no 2-dimensional dictionary definition will capture.
22. Did I make it up that it was the bass player of The Crickets? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Crickets I've only just caught up with the thread, so am wary of delving back in to find out...
23.
I forgot about Alembic. I got a Series 1 Point and grew to detest it. The band (at the time) hated it as well.
I think I'd still have a Spoiler though, even if it's about the only Alembic I would go for. I played Deaver's a while back and thought it was a great little bass, if a little more fancy and convoluted than my usual fair - though it would have to be Clarky's old black Spoiler for the full Jason experience
24.
Nice instruments! Just so we're all clear, the comment was a play on words and not a dismissive comment about BC Rich - although I'm not a fan I don't have a problem with them or the people who play them.
Haha, I'm just teasing you Lefty - most of their modern range is total sh*te; and they are overplaying the pointy crap, because they know it sells well in certain markets... mainly new members on Talkbass who like to ask which basses are good for metal The top one is mine. You're welcome to have a go any time - totally kills a Fender Precision, and I'd love to add more to the collection. But, their best basses are either in the past or coming via the Custom Shop, and I don't think either is necessarily a predictable delivery route at the moment.
25.
I'm guessing it's been a while since you were in a school....
Health & Safety - you don't do woodwork in schools anymore, surely? Nige will probably kill me for that... as long as he does so in a compliant and responsible fashion, I shall have few quibbles
