I was once sat backstage with a young band, who were all like young puppies - all bright and full of energy. They were giving it their "last go", as they didn't think - beyond the age of 25 - they'd get another chance. I'm happily settled into a career. I earn my crust another way, and this is a hobby - something I do for fun, not necessarily to put food on the table. I couldn't play with others of different expectations, in the same band. It would simply be common frustration, all working to different ends. Better out.

I do think it's very nice - a blend of modern Warwick and vintage Gibson.
I took delivery of this fantastic new bass on Monday. It is amazing! Black finish with rosewood fingerboard and tortoise shell scratch plate. I foolishly ordered it for a gig I flew to mainland Europe to audition for. (And didn't get) - So the case has a few SLIGHT marks from ONE flight and two rehearsals. Apart from that this bass is as NEW! I would be looking for around £1250 or perhaps a trade. The bass sounds incredible, but I think changing the bass may help me forget my the fact I messed this one up! Time to move on... Many Thanks.
What kinds of trades, chief? -

Make it even more topical, and have someone render him. We'll use a black flight into Leeds/Bradford, or something, before bundling him into a container with is technically the decidedly un-neutral territory of the Free Republic of Yorkshire and threaten to put the leaches on him, before showing him some clips of Barney the Dinosaur. Should sort the f***er out in no time. Put some hairs on his chest, etc.
Last time I was at a Nightwish gig the bass was lost in the mix. Great tone on its own but its easily swamped.
Depends on what you're after doing, I guess. The bass has it's role, of course - but sometimes, with these heavy distortions, you get the sense it's being used as an additional rhythmn guitar, or somesuch. As such it's another part of that wall of sound, which some bands like to put out - and it can work, if that's your cup of tea. I know what you mean, though - I like a little more personality, even when I am trying to push our rhythmn guitarist along

I don't think I've found "the one", in terms of rig - I still see them as a means to an end, in allowing me to make some noise, and in that respect some are better than others. But whilst I'd run back into a burning house to save the dogs, the guitars and then the wife (priorites, gentlemen, priorities - and if she loved me she'd help me carry the guitars out), I think I'd leave the rig and go round the neighbours for a brew whilst waiting for the fire brigade.

Was there not a 5-string Spector Legend in the For Sale section? Would that not do a good job?
!!! I'm all for task masters but 3 days to sand the back of a headstock? Maybe he was licking it smooth
Haha, I did raise an eyebrow, but it was a stunning custom job - about 7 different exotic woods in the neck. I mean, the level of detail and care being shown was stunning, when you had me at the next desk bodging my course bass together!

No, I missed this. Will have a look at it online this weekend. I hope Gibson were simply ignorant when they purchased the woods - it's saddening to imagine people knowingly contributing to this level of destruction. And in the name of what, a frigging fingerboard? -
Why do we have to be lager and lime? It's a bit fey. Could we not be a nice crisp cider?
Unless you are selling it, the only value it has is in being played. Play the shiz out of it, it has been waiting for that to happen for a long time.
Preferably whilst riffing along to some Eyehategod. Get it on YouTube and TB will be back to its usual self in trying to have you lynched. Best plan of the day, I'd say -
It looks an expensive and rather uninspiring indulgence for $1000+ as a genuine - but that's my subjective take, based on only what I've seen and heard on the internet, and I imagine it's well worth it as an oddity or talking piece.
I get the really cheap 10 pack of biros in tesco, I want to use them for a while before I buy something decent like Bic. Do Bik have a budget brand they make in china? I could buy the budget one and upgrade it gradually.
I wouldn't recommend it mate. My mate had a Chinese made biro and the fit was awful. My Bic was made in France, and I'm really glad I made the step up. The action is very smooth.

I'm pretty much endorsed by Bic. They're me biro of choice.
Remarkable consensus so far: Precision

slightly clankier and less focussed sound but with a bit more bottom end
big traditional boots
a full rich tone with great presence
a 'fruity' richness
rough, dirty, solid
very 'direct' and 'mellow'
thick, heavy on the fundamental
Precisions explode
that (Precision) wallop.
Guinness - rich and full bodied
Precisions go thumpity thump
P's kinda go VVVvvvvvv
A P goes 'Womp!"
Jazz

slightly more refined particularly in the mids
big traditional shoes
far more middy
an edgy rasp
Neck pup jazz = smooth, clean, hollow
the J has the ability to 'spread' it's tone.
Jazz's sparkle
lager & lime - cuts through nicely
Jazzes go plinky-plunk
J's kinda go Dnggggggg
A Jazz goes 'Wooomp"

Jesus Christ. We'll need a pivot table for all this.

Bass Guitar Mag proof reader abandons his post!

Schoolboy error I saw a good gaffe yesterday, via e-mail - an IT spod talking about "multiple site deployments", which turned into "multiple sh*te deployments". We all agreed, jovially, that multiple sh*te deployments was the more honest and likely outcome from our IT -
Would be good if the duty and tax were properly calculated, a little piece of mind when purchasing! It seems to be doing so, which is very positive. Pity the brand selection appears so limited, however.
