Nice one, well done Clarky. Back in the saddle again -
Anyone in the Leeds area want to do me a massive favour?
Gust0o replied to Truckstop's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Sorry, I didn't see this at all - I don't really use this part of the forum -
I think the wedding gig will probably cut it - you can't deny that money is very important to people at the minute, and a chance to earn some shouldn't be lightly passed up. I'd be honest with the pub landlord and offer him/her another night.

I like "Coco" - what is she?
^ Thanks for the insight Gust0o
Yeah, sorry mate, was waxing lyrical a bit! Still getting over the feeling of being like a kid in a toyshop when I went to visit
Oh yes, pics would be great Just recently switched to Spectors myself, having only played Fender Precision(s) over the last years. The neck certainly is a bit on the "chunky" side, but being used to Precision necks, I actually found them surprisingly comfortable to play ...
I found they lend themselves very well, in both neck shape and the balance and 'hang' of the body, to fingerstyle playing - and they make some great noise when played that way. I don't know how people find them, but with the neck that size, I find fingerstyle much more preferable to pick playing, as you hold the bass differently and suddenly it doesn't feel like such an issue. That, looking at the pics, is an absolute steal
Done...just don't say "you were!!"
Very unlikely, that seems a fantastic price - the Mexi Jazzes in town seem to be hitting £650, with the Squiers not overly far behind, to put your bargain into context
Got my black Classic J last week. Noticed that the volume pot is wobbling, but I suspect that is because it had two days of abuse at LBGS'12. Anyone know how the knob comes off to tighten it? Is it just a pull as I cannot see a retaining screw hole? Plays nicely and looks good too. Had apparently been set up for the show by Chris May, unfortunately with a lighter set than I use normally (38-98 as opposed to 45-105) but I shall live with those for a while before getting a heavier set on. Thought that the J pup was quieter than the P initially, but actually I think not after yesterdays noodle, it is just that it is thinner (probably not the right word) being back at the bridge. We also have to bear in ming I have been using active basses since the Wal was converted by Pete in '96 All in all I am currently pleased with the deal I got railroaded (mind it didn't take that much for the plastic to be flashed ) into late in the show last Sunday
Crikey, that looks nice - are you able to PM me the price you paid?
Dear folks, Just a follow up. I managed to buy a Alpine white epiphone bass from a member here - great. It took a nasty blow during transportation and had a big scar - but I sanded it down and repainted it and finalized it with a starshaped glitter carsticker (a bit cheasy I know - but it looks enough 70'ies "I love Kiss" like to be accepted onstage ;-D), and last week my husband got it for his birthday. Do I need to say he was HAPPY :-) So thank you all for helping me, you guys have been great. i will defenitely return if other crazy wished comes up from his side (betcha it will) - but I guess he will be happy for the next year or so.
Ouch, but very glad it ended well Just remember to chase it up with the seller/shipper - it shouldn't be your problem that didn't arrive as described.
There aren't really that many moving parts on a bass, you can't really compare it to a car in respect of letting you down mechanically. Look after them and they'll probably outlast you.
I'm fully intending them to - though hopefully not because I'm checking out any time soon! Touch wood! But I'd like to pass mine on, and to teach my kids to play - something that never happened for me.

I gigged my (almost) mint 1976 Gibson Grabber - I nearly cried when I put an inevitable ding in it. That said, as Neep and a few others told me - when it came time to man up about - they're working instruments, not wall pieces. You've got to take care of them, sure, but it would be a shame not to use them. The Gibson has a great sound, it was absolutely the perfect choice for the gig... now if only I could find something similiar, at a fraction of the cost...
I am not defending Jon because I do think that giblett123 has been waiting a heck of a long time for his instruments. It does make me wonder why Jon hasn't taken on some help or outsourced some of his work during busy periods. His prices are ridiculously reasonable for the quality that he produces. If he hired an assistant expect his prices to go up and that could turn a few BC'ers off as Jon's prices is a significant pulling power.
Jon does have people in to assist him - it's not a solo enterprise. That said, one of the things I noted when I joined him in the workshop, is just how much individual, hands-on effort, even simple parts of the build can take. I saw Rob, Jon's assistant, spend a total of 3 days sanding the rear of a headstock. And there are a lot of basses on the go, that would receive the same treatment. I mean, that level of detail and loving care is what you're paying for - it's what makes it a Shuker. I think Jon could be better with his quotes, absolutely. But I think it's also useful to remind ourselves that this is a personal business - it's not a scale operation. And Jon is human - if he's ill, work stops; amongst any number of such issues. Those who've visited the workshop will be able to imagine the impact the poor weather may well have had! I woud absolutely trust Jon with my money. I've had the pleasure of having a pint with him, and he's thoroughly decent - but I'd accept any foibles as part of the parcel. Gib, get him on the phone. E-mails take a while, but he has his phone on all day - it's your best chance of getting directly through (though he does get a lot of calls, including a lot of fluff) and having a chat about how things are going. Let me know how you get on. I would definitely ring Jon, his phone is on all day, and you're much more likely to catch him. The workshop is an amazing place, and there are significant numbers of instruments on the go.

Are they good for metal?

Is the answer: anyone who needs six-strings (or more) to play elevator music? You know the type, people. Also: me. Though it would be one rockin' elevator.
