1. Anchored... unless I've had a pint or two.

Hi

Welcome in Kevo
3.
She told me that the punters prefer 'one man and his CD' type acts and not live bands, which is fair enough.
Crikey, who are these punters? I've often wondered if they're mistaking indifference for approval. I suspect some will like it - but I've never seen many people getting into the spirit of this kind of show (well, blood alcohol levels notwithstanding) - simply getting on with the pint at hand.
4. I had an MTD Kingston Heir 5 - stunning bass. Super slim neck, which tapered up the fretboard. Totally comfortable to play. Now, if only I'd bought it with four strings, it might still be here...
5. I owned one of these and thought it a stunning bass - so very light! Light, but very well built - usual Lakland standards. The neck was superb and very playable, somewhere between J/P. I'd have another any day, which says it all - I only moved mine on to get another Stingray, as the MM pick-up here is good... but nothing sounds like a Ray.
6. Welcome in Joe. Can you please state the trade value - it's a new rule, but it really helps people when working out the relative value of instruments in a trade. Might also be worth saying where you are in the world. Good luck with the trade! Very nice bass
7. EB3L? Seconded!
8. Now, this is very cool
9.
Interesting question! I am actually more of a "rhythm" bass player. I don't often think in terms of melody or harmony, unless there is a string melody already there and I want to counter it... I stick with the what the drummer is playing to a far greater degree, which kind of limits me but also frees me. It's amazing what you can accomplish in terms of syncopation by NOT playing on certain beats or notes. That is what makes the track live and breathe IMO. It also gives the more melodic instruments more options...
It sounds like I have a very similar technique. I like to imagine the beat, and go with that - which leads nicely into what the rhythm guitar might be doing alongside me; then I let the others in the band work up the lead and vocal melodies, and then might return to the bass line to see if I need to do anything a little different to play off against it.
10.
ah PS The only thing to remember when/if you order is to add a good month to the time quote, as Jon is such a perfectionist he'll not be happy with it at the expected delivery date, and will fix and polish it until he is happy that it is good enough. Most people moan about delays like this, but to be honest I'd rather have a bass take 7 months, than have one that the luthier wasn't happy with in six... It's all part of the price of having a hand-built bass.
Having met Jon in person, I will absolutely second this - so, you might get the odd delay... but you will absolutely get the product you want, and at the utmost quality. I'd be happier with that approach than any alternative for a handmade instrument
11. You always have such stunning basses, Gareth
12. I just got back from a stag do in Edinburgh, smashing place. My accent was much in demand! Glad to hear the pickguard is on it's way, looking forward to seeing this one
13. If it's being built, is it not a case of "tough" as far as the maker is concerned? I don't know many places refund custom orders. What was the comment about the body?
14.
Oh yes, but totally totally different sound
Absolutely.
15. Very cute, black and maple remains a very classy look
16. That should do it - or drop a PM to one of the moderators
17. Que? Is this just lazy Googling for a stock image?
18. I've had some kind offers, but not quite on the mark just yet - so don't panic people. Also, I am conscious that I owe Basschat some pictures of this. I'll have to apologise. The wife has gone galivanting and left me in charge at home - and I'd quite forgotten how time consuming it can all be!
19. Dude, very glad you liked it - I loved the course. Taught me a lot, including some respect, about how much work goes into producing a quality bass. I let my mind slip one morning, and ended up with a neck pocket which could only pass the Fender QC inspection Does it have a clear finish? I'm thinking, maybe, we need a Shuker course porn thread...
20.
i lolled because its true
I seem to remember you being bigger than me...
21.
Pic would help, but is it finish deep? What sort of finish? some finishes will sink into the grain as the grain shrinks.
This sprang to mind when I read the original post. My Lakland shows fine lines, which are joins in the wood underneath the finish.
22. I've not tried the stompbox, though I do have the Amplitube app - and I would note that they do seem to want to charge you for every little extra. Might be worth pricing some of that up, before committing to purchasing anything, so you're aware of all the costs.
23. I'm tempted to click "Ask the seller a question" and enter the following: Are you high?
24. I do know of a local band who have just taken on a drummer who is 17 - nice lad, and can sure smash the skins, but the venues give him a hard time. The other month I saw him play his soundcheck and then be asked, by the venue, to wait outside!
25. Welcome back, lah
