1.
This is where I have a serious problem. Ability on a device is simply a tool for expression, it is NOT music. Music should not be considered to be dependent on devices, the human is the instrument. Wonderful music has been made on a two note flute, and dreadful music has been made on a 7 string bass. It's about the HUMAN, not the device. Does this mean the two note flute is a toy? Of course it doesn't, it is simply a conduit for human expression.
I have no argument on the two note flute or seven string bass (what are the other three strings for) , D.A.D's bass player has his guitars built with only two strings, I certainly have no argument on the Human interface, the voice is often the greatest instrument, STOMP make a fine noise out of all manner of 'tools', but the ability is all important, anyone can tap a saucepan with a wooden spoon and even keep very good time doing it, my problem comes when someone records that pan tapper, digitises it, puts it into a synthesiser or computer programmed device and replays it saying they have 'created' music, the pan tapper created the music not the computer wizard. I make no attempt to scoff at your musical abilities, it is very likely they are far better than my basic skills but we must agree to disagree on the way in which those skills are put to use. Cheers Kevo
  2.
To me music is music. The more I do it the less I give a sh*t about how I make it. I play a few instruments, but all I care about is the song. I just make music, and that's all that's important.
Fair comment, wouldn't pay for us all to be the same, I guess I'm a bit old in the tooth now Luckily for me it was in the 1930's that Paul Tutmarc developed the first electric string Bass, his company weren't really that successful though, but then in in 1951 Leo Fender introduced the now legendary 'Precision Bass', it is therefore fair for me to claim this as an original concept to me (as it was invetented well before my time), I quite like the old string pig (double bass) and have been fortunate enough to have a go on one occasionally, that though is akin to my having a go on an old 'Indian' and comparing it to my modern VN1600 Classic Tourer. I suppose there will come a time when young aficianado's of this modern 'toy bass' will make the same comparison, I just hope these things don't take away the ability of future generations to actually play an instrument in the same way that calculators and mobile phones have taken away the ability of youngsters to read, write and count.
  3. Thanks for the reply, apparently Indie Guitars got rave reviews but I can't find anything on Indie Amplifiers. Budget is seriously limited, getting married next May, that and the holiday to Tenerife mean that herself sees absolutely no need for 'another bloody amplifier'
  4. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kbwj_9Ba90E A reasonable sounding band that just didn't quite make it, watch this to show how REAL musicians had to do it before x-factor and the like. Review from 2007 re-release of their one and only album 'First Offenders' : Renia's sole output is a pretty dull UK early 70s rock album. There is some nice organ runs to keep it from being a total yawner, but ultimately this is the kind of album that make Fantasy's "Paint a Picture" seem like speed metal by comparison. Comparisons to Humble Pie wouldn't be out of place, minus the versatility of said group. Only track to put it in high gear is called 'Slow Down' ironically enough.
  5. Hi Guys, I am starting playing again after a very very long break, currently have a Laney Linebacker 80W (ok for practice), I just wondered if any of you are familiar with the 'Indie LB200 Bass Combo', I have a chance of a very good deal on a brand new one but know nothing of them, nor can I find any info on Google, I'm told it far outweighs the Behringer BXL 1800 Ultrabass combo that I was originally looking at but would appreciate any feedback from any of you that know these amps. P.S my Basses are an old Ibanez Blazer series (nice 70's sound) and an Epiphone EB3 SG Bass. Cheers Kevo

    Hi

Hi Guys, Kevo here, almost a senior citizen , just had my desire to play rekindled. Main Bass is an old Ibanez Blazer series (nice 70's sound), also have an Epiphone EB3 SG Bass (love this one), an unknown make cheap e-bay purchase shiny black and plays reasonably well (beginners Bass I suppose) and a semi acoustic Bass. Always wanted a Gibson SB/SG bass and the recent aquisition of the Epiphone is I suppose what has got me going again. I like Rock/Blues, Soul/Motown and a fairly wide variety other than that. I am a grumpy old biker, Shoot (clay pigeon) every sunday, read a fair amount and have a lifelong love affair with Guinness. I have a particular question I want to put to you guys but will find the relevant forum and do so just now. Th Th Th Th That's all folks
