1. Gah, you had my last Gibson off me already!
2. I think I'd want to play, unless they were truly dreadful and beyond redemption. It doesn't preclude you finding the band of your dreams, and it keeps the eye on. No worse than hitting the driving range.
3. I really like this thread, this is great to see
4.
a clip of our most famous tune from a bar in Cardiff last Saturday Well, I could post it if I could find the holy grail of how the hell to do it!! doesn't like https then! Neanderthal Metal...
My love for Thorun is well known - have both your EPs! Some great stuff on here, a very electic mix. I know a lot of people say "sorry about the sound... sorry about the playing" - but, funk it, if you're willing to share it, then I'm willing to respect it Couple of live ones from the vault. First from our Christmas party @ Gibson's in York, billed as The Nightmare Before Xmas with some of our mates (Jonny Gill, Dark Days of December, Way of the Texan) - following an ancient Mayan tradition, we had a skinful for this one. Carlsberg, I believe. An earlier gig, supporting The Mercy House and Viking Skull. Red Stripe this time. I think that's when the carpal tunnel was starting to dig in, as I look to have a lot of strapping.
5. Superb basses. I have an identical one, and it's eminently playable. These are lighter than the 'signed' DJs.
6. Where are you based, Samuel? And did you have a specific Stingray in mind?

BC Awards 2012

Kiwi, I think we had a few people in this thread who sounded like they wanted to vote, but missed the deadline - maybe a small extension to let some more votes in? I'll admit, some of the categories need a tie-breaker!
8. As with all the above, you clearly stated your terms. I'd give him the option of arranging his own shipping, and if that was unacceptable moving on to the second bidder.
9. Ah, I love this video. I've not yet managed to see it and not think about the gulf between what BC Rich was, and what it is now. I'm not sure how far off my Eagle is in terms of kit and construction from the old vintage models. MIne has DiMarzios, again with those lovely cream covers, and it sounds superb. Lorne would know! Going back to that thread about the tone being in the fingers, there's some superb playing (to my ears, subjectivity fans!) in this video.
10. We keep most of the old For Sale ones, so I hope that a lot of that information is still out there for you - it's not something you get in a lot of the Wanted Items posts, mind, though I think this one was an exception. Pete, if you do want some of those posts porting over to a Mandocaster thread, please drop me a PM.
11. I think I could merge the non-Wanted Items part of that old thread into a new one about Mandocasters, if you wanted to keep that discussion going, since I think it was beginning to branch out? Would that be of help? I'll just edit out the Wanted Item bits, as I think mart has now found one.
12. Ah, very sorry to hear that Blademan - best wishes, chief.
13. Seconded, EvilLordJuju has posted some really great stuff about vintage Gibsons - I'd drop him a PM.
14.
We've had 7 or 8 pages of great debate...
Totally agree, although I think I had to drop out early on page 2, as my luddite tendencies to theory are well known Still, here's to 7 or 8 pages of more great debate
15. Sorry, Brig - a member may remove his or her own posts, and I believe one of us has exercised that right in this thread. That last comment you mention, I removed, for reasons which I hope are obvious. This is a discussion forum, and I want us to get back to that - we're better than falling out for long, and we're certainly better than insulting one another Am I a moderator... or do I just have access to the moderation panel?
16. Welcome in
17. Yeah, I skipped the Blowtorch as I didn't fancy faffing with 18v. I've had a look at the LS-2, and that seems like an idea - I assume you'd run the Overdrive into it, with the Mastotron on a loop; use the pedal to set the split; and then run it out into the amp? Does look like it would be useful, anyway, in a growing board.
18. Evening all - just to reiterate, if you want to discuss the price with the seller then you should use the PM function
19.
overdrive for sure ! Darkglass B3k all the way for my taste. although the mastotron has no blend, so either a blender or a separate blendable fuzz would be what you'll require.
Bugger. I bought the Mastotron whilst also looking at the Blowtorch. From the sounds of that, I got the wrong one to combine. How essential is the blend? Is the risk that the Mastotron will simply "muddy" whatever goes before it, unless you can blend?
20. I'm liking this idea of another dirt box. Assume anything would cut it, provided it sharpened up the highs/mids? I'll admit, the Mastotron is a very bassy pedal.
21.
I think you need to understand what your function is within the music and use that to produce music before you can call yourself a musician.
Which fits with the rest of my comment, though I think I was more flowery - and, if you can do that, you can be a musician. Without needing a Grade 8, or the nod from learned peers to necessarily validate yourself. I would still contest that 'music', in it's formal sense, has rules - that there is framework, structure. And that's none more evident than in the threads, ever the bane of a sensible conversation, where we discuss if people need to learn theory
22. Having insomnia gives me a lot of thinking time, so I have another question. So, my fledgling pedal board is currently Tuner > Octaver > Fuzz, and this seems to be working pretty well. I think I've got it in the right order, so as to give the Octaver a clean signal whilst still making the most of my Mastotron fuzz. It's all sounding well enough in the mix. I'm needing to make some minor adjustments, as I'm alternating between my active Stingray and passive Lakland DJs, but overall happy. However, I think I want to have my cake and eat it. I want some more... well, something, in the sound. Some more presence, cut-through, grit - particularly when using the passives. However, I want to keep the Mastotron, as that bad boy sounds great (and works well with the actives). I'm wondering about putting something in front of ther Fuzz - with my mind working around something along the lines of overdrive, bass driver or something like the Tech 21 VT. I'm still on a learning journey when it comes to pedals, so please humour me. Questions as follows:

Is the above sensible, do people out there run similiar set-ups?
I play hard rock (a la Black Spiders, Viking Skull) - am I thinking along the right lines in terms of pedal choice, or would people have other recommendations?
Are there examples you know of that I can listen to, of similar set-ups?
Would a compressor be a good idea at the end of such a chain to try and, well, reform the signal after all that?
All help appreciated, even if just telling me I've got it all wrong!

How would I need to structure such a set-up? In what order do I need to have things?
23. I had in mind that you were asking about an EQ pedal - though that would also sit well with a compressor, I imagine.
24.
I would say that if you are able to entertain people using a musical instrument, then you can be classified as a musician.
I'm of the same mind. However, over the ages, some people crafted rules and regulations around music - and now, in terms of your abilty to play and know/practice the intricacies of the corresponding theory and technique, the definition of 'musician' can now seem quite elitest. Personally, most people have some inherent musical ability; and if they can project it, and bend it to their will, then they're a musician After that, other definitions might apply - 'professional', 'skilled', 'exceptional', etc.
