1.
The walking bass part is easy enough, its soloing that offers the headaches. It is increadibly difficult to do anything meaningful with those changes at that tempo and a lot of people hold the view that Coltrane's later modal/free work came about as a result of the realisation that the complex changes of a tune like Giant Steps etc is a creative 'dead end'. Whenever I hear it played by anyone, I just get angry at the ethos of 'ooooh, look at me playing Giant Steps' and the general lack of emotionally satisfying content. Playing it is 7 etc is just juggling/a circus act and doesn't impress me on bit.
2. How about finding it in a video game? An example of less being more, I would say.
3. I had an NS-2J-AR, which was the limited re-release of the 80's NS2J. That had quite a substantial neck, with the fingerboard having a lot more depth than even a Stingray or Precision. Also, a very long neck - or certainly in feeling, as the bass had such a slight body. I really enjoyed playing it, but it did occasionally feel like a stretch, and would push me to play fingerstyle. I'm not sure how representative of the Spector range that single bass is, mind. I think I recall starting a thread of my own on the issue of Spector necks, and was told there was some variation.
4. I used to have a Jackson Kelly, which should still be with another BC'er - and that was a really well put together bass. Different sweep to the rear, and a more substantial headstock - and active electronics, via twin humbuckers. I think I'd still take the Jackson, if just to avoid the 3-point bridge. The one I'm looking at is the 2013 EB, but in the smoked sunburst - which has yet to arrive on these shores, also.
5. Looks super, chief - but I don't think I've ever seen it before.
6. On the off-chance this gets held up somewhere, as we won't all be gigging every night, we should probably include filmed rehearsals or other clips - just get some evidence of it being played, eh?
7. Ooh, very nice Neville! What's the neck closer to, the Jazz or Precision?
8. Or do you have to go to another BC'ers gig to collect it? Could be an idea - and we'd get to see some more music!
9. Though, if I had to pick a player, Geezer or Phil Lynott.
10. Going to go in another direction, but I'd say Leo Fender.

15. Right guys, let's have a photo bump. Days. It took him days. Wayne would be here for months, going after his post count - I don't think anyone else is close, unless dood's rigging it again.
17. sh*te. I spent all time being a moron or arguing. And when I wasn't doing those things I was in For Sale. Thankfully, osmosis is a proven concept. Albeit for fluids and gases, thus proving the complex nature of knowledge, as it penetrated even my dense head. Confidence is up. Knowledge of my equipment is up (I even built a bass on the Shuker course, after reading about it on BC). My technique has improved, although I have limited myself - some of you are superb players, and it can be daunting; thus it's sometime easier to accept limits, and I've probably been a little too accepting. It's a slow process, if you're not here looking for specific help; you learn something new every week, and it all adds up. Thanks BC
18. Somewhere between crotch and knee. Lower for finger technique, a touch higher for pick.
19. Haha, the black paint on mine must be made of dark matter, for the extra weight That said, they're not particularly heavy basses. Typical solid Lakland build, very happy with mine.
20. The cans on mine regularly separate from the headpiece, or whatever you call it. Hmm.
21. Would be interested in seeing this. In any case, send me some pics and I'll put them up here for you - check your PM for my email address.
22. Not sure chief, it's working for me. Paging an admin!
23.
This video pops up every so often. I think you'll all find it is a BC-Rich Wave with nipples.
Ah, there you go - I did look at the top horn and wonder, as it's more angular than the Eagle. You and me too, McNach! I'd love to find another one, but I think most are locked down with very happy owners. I do remain curious about the Greg Week's signature Eagle, but it's anything but vintage BC Rich. If you're ever in York you're welcome to drop in and have a try.
24. Welcome in
25. I use a Mastotron to get some pretty serious fuzz going. Our very own Ou7shined made a video of his in action... My only slight grumble is that it's a constant battle to keep some real presence with it in action - you find yourself generally adding to the chaos, but lacking definition. I started a thread in the Effects forum on. The solution? More effects!
