It was a Grabber, another highly underrated bass. On my list for one day, however the power of P always draws me to safety.
Sounds like a Grabber - though when they went to the G-3, they finally did away with the moveable pick-up and settled for three single-coils, with the a switch. I had a 1976 G3 and it was a great bass. Looks a very good project Neep. Assume non-standard colours are in, too? I mean, Gibson didn't always give bassists a lot of choice - but you could paint it anything. Red, maybe?

That would be the one! Bizarrely, having just bought it a BC'er Tweeted me to say someone had walked in no more than five minutes after me asking where it had gone and if it was still available! I preferred the sunburst over the clear lacquered finish. Both good finishes, just something more about the sunburst. Would be good to let a proper Gibson head, someone like Neepheid, have a look and talk about how it differs - both good and bad - from other Gibsons. But I think it's a good bass in it's own right; I didn't really want to stop playing, and that felt like a good sign - a bit like when I got my first Stingray.

Well, after a month or more of prevarication - which Matt will no doubt attest to - yesterday I finally decided to treat myself to one of the new Gibson EB 2013 basses. Trying the bass out in the shop, it felt like a good mix of plenty of other basses - the twin humbuckers of the Thunderbird; when tapped, much more akin to the Grabber, or a particularly grizzled jazz; nice maple neck; light ash body; stunning grain under sunburst nitro... and, finally, a sensible bridge. It was good price as far as Gibson's go (£749) - and you get a Gibson hardcase thrown in, which is very nice. I took it along to rehearsal today, to give it a go at some real volumes and was very impressed. The bass is light overall, but a good size. It feels robust without offering the dead weight of the Les Pauls. My rehearsal rig is a 100W Hiwatt combo and I was just using my Sansamp VT for some punch and a little drive. Bass was good, both clean and with the pedal - pick-ups were hotter than I thought, and sounded hotter than the comparable Thunderbird pick-ups. The ability to coil-tap offered some nice flexibility, and some good combinations. Naturally, it nails the kind of rock tone you might expect from a Gibson, but has a few more tricks up it's sleaves - though I doubt it's going to have Pino fans flocking to it. I'm a rock player, so I knew what I wanted and I got it; those with more refinded tastes may wish to make their own minds up The Babicz bridge is a massive improvement over the three-point. It feels solid, and the bass real sings - it sustains plenty, though I do give my basses a good thump! In conjunction with the Grover tuners it kept everything solid and in tune. I normally use my Stingrays live with the band, as the 3EQ allows for some reasonable adjustment on the fly. They have a great presence - but this had something else. Just a real thump about it, which moved the room; I got some great feedback from the guys. I think the nitro is likely to wear down pretty nicely, to boot. All in all, I walked out of the rehearsal thinking I'd gotten a great deal. I know it's the first time Gibson have built a bass without a corresponding guitar, and in some ways it's a divergence from their other perennials, but it's genuinely a good bass. Yes, it has some idiosyncracies; but the overall effect is good. It's light; the pick-ups really power it along; and the maple neck is fast and fun to play. I'll have to sort some pictures out!

In terms of mods getting involved in threads and posts, the bulk of actions come from members reporting something they disagree with - as opposed to the moderating team sifting through everything. We got a lot of reports. Some are clear cases, but many not - and all are insistent for a response or some kind of action. You might start a light-hearted thread, which can unwittingly and mortally offend half a dozen other members for all kinds of reasons - and there are some very serious reasons, why you simply could not foresee. It can make it very tough to please everybody - if such were even possible!

Trucker caps, for me, if anything. Current fave is my Karma to Burn one, which I bought from the lads themselves when they came through Leeds.

Encourage learners, or 'Tell it like it is'..?
If I can't get my leg over Catherine Southon off Bargain Hunt in the next four years I might give up trying. I could go on about the restraining order but certain people might think I was whining.
Good for you. This is me being encouraging. I'm going to stop there, however, for fear of becoming an accessory to your deviancy. -
Excellent advice See, it isn`t hard to give good advice is it
I still think he could have given you more encouragement, however. Of course, some people only whine for a hobby. You get a lot of hobbyist whiners, who like recording their whines for Youtube. But some people whine for a living, and thus sometimes need the brutal truth, no? This thread is boggling, n'est-ce pas? -
Never EVER judge your playing in isolation, listen to any isolated bass part and they will sound very odd, fluffs, timing issues, etc. In an ensemble all the players will be doing things they would cringe at if they heard it isolated.
Seconded. Did you add to the song on the night, get it moving? If so, reasonable success, I would say. You're not in your bedroom nailing a note perfect rendition for Youtube, so I wouldn't worry too much. Keep on it and keep having fun.

I'd definitely look to encourage, and use the experience to sound out any potential - it's what I do in the workplace, and I think the same rings true here. I mean, this is a hobby for many players, why wouldn't it be all about encouragement? It's only where this begins to drift over into business that you'd have to consider any more dramatic outcomes - the honest conversation, etc. -
Bit more stoner rock at the moment. Just joined a doom/sludge outfit, so looking forward to giving that a try. Was going to point Chesty out, but he's done it himself - we have Chesty from Thorun, who are a good listen; Rick from Iron Witch is on here as well. Probably a heap of others I've missed out!

Not even touched the bass today. Up at the crack of dawn to drop the dogs off, before setting off for another day in the smoke. Back in now, tempted to have a play, but shattered...

I picked up on them with Around The Fur, which would have been 1997 or thereabouts. My Own Summer especially, but the whole album captured a lot of growing up as a young teenager, in some way. Important part of my life in that album, that band -and Cheng was a big part of that. As I said on Twitter, very sad.

I make sure I get a place at the front; I make sure I move about; I interact with the crowd - but I'm a bit like Ray, it's often masking nerves. I never quite feel I'm doing any of it naturally. I know what I should do, I believe, so I do it! That said, I'm told it does make a difference. You know it yourselves, when you see a show - you want to see someone getting into it, as the sense of energy is infection. Unless you're shoe-gaze/heroin chic, or some other type of music where the apparent lack of presence is a presence in itself, then you might want to have something up your sleave

Squier would be your answer, I imagine. Though, sometimes, it can be false economy to get a lesser version of something you know and love - well worth having a think over. I think I spent a lot more time and money trying to find the ideal back-up, than I might have if I'd just plumbed for saving for another.

Very interesting idea. There is a chap on here who has a denim-covered bass, which is in his avatar... Name escapes me now, d'oh!

I have a black DJ4, which has been with me for some time now - courtesy of Molan, if I recall. Lovely bass, very versatile. I also enjoyed the 44-02 and would get one again in a flash. Very light, very playable.

The Greenskeepers - Vagabond Golden Earring - Radar Love Bit of an eclectic mix, that!

Well, you've got most of us beat - as we all know, playing ability comes second to looking cool; and that looks cool. What a lovely bass! Welcome in chief, enjoy Basschat
