Nothing beats rehearsing in meatspace.
That sums my band up nicely Besides, you can't banter a recording about he's such a sh*t ****, anyway.

The guitarist wants to do it his own way, but won't tell you what it is? Oh, I am surprise! This does sound a little familiar, from both personal experience and reading member stories on here. All the very best of luck, let us know how you get on.

Dang, beaten to it! Yes, that's the long and short of it - and one to be logged for the developers.
If ordering small sized items from US it`s pot-luck as to whether you`ll get hit with the duty - I`ve ordered pickups, bridges etc, sometimes have been hit, others not. From Thomann you won`t be.
Agree - they have to make a call as to whether the goods are worth more than £135, which isn't always clear if they're not labelled up; also, if the amount of duty, once calculated, is under £9 they will waive it. It's a lot more certain with the big ticket items.

No worries, it's my total pleasure to help people out and get called names The trick with the EU is the line from the HMRC site: "It's just like shopping in the UK" - so it's as hassle free (well, apart from delivery/return and order times) as shopping on the highstreet here. And, as far as Thomann go, they're an established operator - they ship regularly to the UK. The US will, likely, occur import duties for something as expensive as a bass. I'm sure, if you search the forums here, you'll find plenty of people talking about their experiences.
Just note sure about buying stuff from within EU
Did you read the HMRC page?

I looked at that Musky, but it states I have no free calculations left - which is sad, as I don't recall every receiving the free calculations
Anyone know off hand what import duty rate is?
HMRC knows a lot about this, funnily enough.
Great stuff, you should be really proud of this.
Seconded. Really good stuff, lah

Have I gone wrong here, seems awfully quiet? Happy for PMs if I'm way off the kilter with the price - but didn't think £800 was too bad for a superb Stingray, with MM hardcase, but I appear to be talking to myself in my own thread Have replied to the PMs, but perhaps people have had their Stingray gas fulfilled!

Why do you want to know what gear your heroes use?
Gust0o replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
In the old days you'd go to a gig and you'd hear the backline. The gear they used and what they sounded like meant something. Now all you hear is a DI, so it's pretty pointless to buy the gear that your heroes use based on their FOH sound.
Could you be proposing a new trend, chris_b, in soundesk spotting? -
This is the hardest decision of my life,
Can we trade lives, please? Some good comments from Dr T about where these instruments come from. I remember a few clips of some of the vintage ones standing out on Youtube - well, if you don't mind Phil X's unique approach! Which originally intrigued me... and then the newer version, courtesy of GAK: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U15_lRs3Q9k

What a stunning looking bass, bet you're glad to have it back

There are quite likely a huge number of reasons, Nige. Largely, it will be for learning - though to what end, I leave open. Many people learn from experience - they like to try things, or experience them in some way, to get a sense of how they work; and, for us bassists, talking about gear gives us a chance to emulate that. All the way from scrutineering rigs at gigs, to talking about it here, it's a way of learning and putting that learning into context. So, if you just want to know what works - or want to know how your heroes nail their sound - people will talk gear I think that drives me. I want to know how it all works. I'm unlikely to lay hands on all the kit I would like, in the flesh, to give it a try, so I ask or search - and it gives me a reference, I can relate what I know to what I hear, and get a sense of how it works. Probably an over-engineered answer. I should have just said: f*** it, I'm like a magpie. I like shiny things I'll add in the curious; the pub quiz trivia; etc. -
The Fender VI is a different beast from a bass. In my experience, they sound great alongside a regular bass and guitar, but they are a lousy replacement for a bass.
I was thinking that they might fit in a treat with that whole shoe-gaze heroin-chic thang? I don't know if that counts as indie, mind!
-
I just assumed that was his thing - you know, "the cat man", or something.
-
Very nice - a contemporary of my Black MM, it appears.
-
Is this bass good for metal? ... Sorry, I couldn't help myself. Mr Betafunk is quite correct, we have a good long thread on the pawnshop VI - started by Betafunk himself! I think the bass, from the sounds of it, could be good for a lot of genres; a very intriguing instrument.

No one cons Dom. Ross Kemp once made a documentary about it, but it's too extreme to show on tv. I mean, they never show you how he gets the money back, do they? Think about it.
There's a short report about it on The One Show tonight.
Dom Littlewood is leading the investigation, I hear. Don't get done, get Dom.

cutting sound from a stingray? eq advice needed!
Gust0o replied to bigevilman's topic in Bass Guitars
Wow.... there is NO way a MM bass should struggle in this regard. If there is anything about them, it is that the EQ can cut glass.
Would agree. Was wondering if it was just the stage sound and a pair of guitarists insistent on being audible across the entire range. -
I would love to recount an anecdote about an accident I had doing my zip up too fast and without undue care whilst wearing a pair of ski trousers , but unfortunately I have already been warned by the moderaters about cleaning up my act .
This sounds familiar. What I found was that the zipping up was not the worst part - the extrication was, erm, not to be repeated...
