1.
Whenever people ask me about my Fender tattoo I explain that without Leo I'd likely be playing some bastard upright creation
Dare I ask where this is? I think we have to acknowledge our indebtedness to this man. In his designs, he got it so, so right - which is remarkable enough; it's even more remarkable that he went on to repeat the feat!
  2. Yeah, that's a good call, Rich. My own collection is a little esoteric, and I will note that the Stingrays are very distinct from everything else on the rack. Not tried a 2EQ, but I do find I have the bass fully up on my 3EQ models. I leave the mids to maybe half-way and then end Jo using the Treble a little like a Tone control. Does counter some of the complaints I think people have made - but not all, I guess, if people don't like their inherent sound. Still, or,ally they get grief for the necks - so a tone debate is a welcome change
  3.
DFA1979 were absolutely brutal. Devastated when they broke up that I had never seen them live.
Ditto. Such an awesome sound. When I first heard them I didn't realise it was just the two of them. So much sound! Oh, and a great call for Om in this thread - both drums + Rickenbacker outfits.
  4. I'm the end, heart and head will find the right path for you - you just get the odd dilemma along the way. Part of the excitement, for me anyway, in being in a band was the ability to learn with and from others. I upped my game as my bandmates did, and it became a virtuous circle. I'd be inclined to give him one more go, to see if you can help him learn. Maybe you could help by setting some real goals, like learning a particular song or getting a particular gig, and keeping the guys focused on getting to that goal. If that doesn't work, after all your efforts... Well, it's made the decision for you, I would suggest. Shame he's disrespecting your kit loan - maybe just have a word directly about it, or take the kit back?
  5.
I am probably the most unpopular moderator...
Sorry, lah, but I think I might be winning TeamGB another gold in that class!
  6. The system works for everyone, Billy. If you have feedback, I - we - will want to hear it. It's the only way to learn. I've apologised, naturally - it was upsetting for me to see Steve upset.
  7. Looks great, Ed
  8.
I've just played my 1980 Stingray for the last hour, switched to my Status S2 Classic and what Rich says is totally true.
To your ears The dangers of subjective opinions. Agree, it can he sharp - too sharp is a personal thing, to my mind. This lack of Stingray love is making my heart heavy, lah Still, isn't that the Stingray sound?
  9.
Bananas too? We weren't gonna mention those...
Well, they've not reappeared..,

    New Boy

    Welcome in chief
  13.
The first one of these SLO necks to come up on BassChat? Plenty of folk say they would love a Ray, especially one with multiple pickups but can't cope with the wide neck, well here you go now is your chance!
Buy my SR5 and then I can find out
  14. It is literally brand new - I think we took the wrapper off it Have a bump too
  15. Ooh, very nice, Cosmo! I have had a lot of time for Rex - in the older underrated bassists thread he was my nomination, some superb work with Pantera.
  16. Mark, first off - superb bass! Timely, as we'd just been discussing the SLOs! Is the neck a genuine jazz profile, or Stingray-lite? Second, are you able to give a trade valuation, so people can guage the relative value of any trade offers they might make - it's a new rule, but we were getting a lot of confused members, so we thought we'd clarify. More gubbins on it here.
  17. ... and, my personal favourite! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XiaVAdkgp08&feature=relmfu
  18.
My exact thought when I was reading this thread!
I think we'd better correct this, then! Strap Locks

Yeah, washers will work for peanuts. I'll admit, I have Schallers on all my main basses - and have not had an issue (well, an issue not of my own making, anyway) yet, though I'll keep an eye out. For me, it's normally where the nut has worked loose and no longer secures the strap, rather than the any issue with the pin. The only other set I've used has been a set of Warwick straplocks - which seemed very well made, also.
  20.
Hosepipes down their wellies?
Close... Anyway, after all this fuss about moderator changes, I checked this morning and nothing has changed. Was it supposed to grow?
  21. Looks like a Gold edition, like my old one. I shipped that one with the neck off, so can confirm it's a good idea
  22.
How do you know what his sex face is like? Just curious. But not 'bi' curious.
We all know you're 'try curious'
  23.
Alembic and Star bass for me in this context. The Ray is bottom, but of course Rays don't have to sound like that. In fact the Ray sound here reminds me of my old Aggie GS112s with the tweeter engaged; bottom, searing top, and nothing at all in the middle.
Primo. 3EQ, all those options, people slate the one. Sigh.
  24.
Well that explains it then doesn't it, you silly sausage. That's like trying to tell the difference between a butternut squash and Ann Widdicombe's arse through the bottom of a bottle.
That's an image. Not one I wanted; but one I now have. Cheers Nige!
