I reckon a tour of Barefaced should be in the works. This was pretty interesting, a lot of the machinery looks indestructible. Liam
This is what we need. Naked Ped, from Asschat vists Barefaced. This is gold dust, people.

Well, folks, we're only a single letter away from Asschat - let's go for it, I say, and expand our market!
Funny you should mention MTD as i have recently bought an MTD 535
Ah! Well, I imagine you'll shortly be of the same mind with respect to MTD - mine was light, superbly built, and I was a total wally for moving it on I spotted a Gibson suggestion above. I know they're typified as a rock bass, but am sure they could cover a lot of genres. I've played a 5-string Les Paul, and it made an awesome thump (via twin Bartolini humbuckers)... but it did feel like it was made out of lead. A heavy bass, and that might not suit.
-
Does your SR5 not cut it? I'll admit to having cast some admiring glances at it - sadly, I'll not be in buying mood this side of work restructuring. I had an MTD 5'er, and found it to be superb - albeit one of their cheaper models. I'd definitely suggest that brand for some further investigation.

I think Billy Bob Thornton described using his own bloodymindedness, in conjunction with the depression, to "bottom himself out" or somesuch; in any case, it was either a mix of Hollywood claptrap or an astounding piece of mental discipline, in the face of a chemical/body state which would have run directly counter. Certainly not an approach for all, I would contend. I don't know anyone who has "snapped out of it". I like the idea of the 5-10 mins a day as discpline, mind. I've never had depression, but I did have anxiety - and, with the safety net of the medication, I would try and go outside of my comfort zone. Sometimes in yards, sometimes in minutes; but it seemed a good complement to the more usual medical treatments. I won't describe it as "positive" - as, one, that might be the wrong terminology for the depressives; and, two, it didn't feel very positive at the time! It requires a significant amount of will; but it might offer some insights. I'll admit, I was a little sceptical at the ability to simply combat my own condition via medicine. The primary purpose of many GPs is in the management of symptoms, predominantly pain. So much of medical care is based around that core. You may find pills mitigate some of the symptoms you find; but I would trust you've had medical opinion around what might be best to address the issue more fundamentally, even if only in part. Might be worth discussing with your GP, in seeking a referral if it is becoming a more significant issue. Some great suggestions above - might be worth bouncing them off someone
Is there anything I should do more? or less? I know I say 'Yeah' a lot and do lots of nodding in this vid.
This is going to sound weird, but could you wear less?
I call it the "Don't be so f*cking weak and just do it" method.
I do recall Billy Boy Thornton waxing lyrical on his similar approach to dealing with his issues.
Nearly all men can sense when a woman is harbouring a silent and specific dissatisfaction. I suppose this chump must have belonged to the 1% that don't.
Detection is one thing, Herr Skank; it's then a matter of having the correct weaponry to deal with this silent menace. Me and my wife us specific code phrases to help articulate when she is struggling with some hidden issue, in a safe and security-conscious manner. I initiate our clandestine contact with the code phrase: "Jesus Christ, you've got a face like a smacked arse. What have I done now." Upon receipt of this code phrase, my wife then knows that she can broadcast the vital information.
Don't try and bodge it, take it to a proper tech who will know what to do with it. They'll tell you what it will cost, it might be a sand down and oil again. If it needed more work than that, the first tech should have done something about it or not done anything to charge you for other than say it needs sorting.
Inclined to this one. Does seem odd not to offer, to be honest - I mean, who wouldn't want the business? Well, unless they couldn't service, it, mind... I think there are probably easier ways of resolving the action, some mentioned here - such as shimming - than buying a whole new neck. It sounds as if, with a little effort and some know-how (and kudos to Letts for volunteering to assist), you could get this back to playing - and learn a little in the process. If, having gone through the options and heard from Letts it still sounds a little too difficult, or you're uneasy with it - well, take it on in to a shop; but at least you'll now know what you should be asking them to do, avoiding them charging you for fiddling about with it Assume the bass isn't a regular player now?
I totally agree but there seems to be a new breed of MM player emerging who can not wait to stick a JE in their newly acquired MM thus rendering it no longer an authentic sounding MM - kind of pointless perhaps but at least it is reversible.
I think I'm in this camp, though will admit it's a very subjective thing. But I would buy a Musicman for that particular sound, with adulteration.
True but in a forum where most guys venturing under the hood would rather pay a bloke to build them the simplest of looms than solder one up for themselves, it's hardly surprising. Are more people choosing to go passive these days? My basses are a pretty mixed bunch but once I found out how to build a passive bass boost circuit there was no looking back.
Haha, careful now, or that might sound like a good suggestion - nay, a fantastic opportunity - for you to give back to the Basschat community, by explaining to us muggles how we might go about doing it I'd be interested in hearing a lot more from the pros about the tools they have for the job. I've worked with the wood, I've soldered circuits - but would be interested in hearing more about the people who do it regularly, and simply what kit and techniques they use; rather than my sole example in Jon's workshop, where everything was to hand in quantity!
It is f***ing vile. What an abysmal and sick-making disproportionate travesty. Like having a monster penis with tiny little bollocks.
Someone bang this in the quotes thread. I'm too lazy. And a little perturbed by the image of Nige with a monster penis and tiny little bollocks. Better yet, get this quote on the artist's website. It would lend integrity.
the seller was exceptionally confrontational on the phone, immediately so. I didn't jump down his neck - I just said that i taken it home and turned it on and that there was a problem
Yeah, sounds like he knew. I don't think you're going to have much of a hope, given you tried the bass - unless you're willing to be economical with the truth. As it's cash in hand, there's no third party to dive in and secure the funds, which will be the sh*tt*r. Report to Ebay in any case, and leave him some awful feedback. Should be straightforward enough to fix, however - hopefully some knowledgable BC'er will be local. -
Maybe not yet, anyway. I thought the same for decades.
Same of your punters still do
Can sing for toffee!!! and definitely can't sing and play at the same time. I may be a woman, but that is one arena where I definitely can't multitask
We all say that It's like patting your head whilst rubbing your tummy - you'll look a total twat the first time you try it, but you soon get the hang. And anyway, you're only doubling up on the vocals, not getting your Mariah Carey on
Interestingly, I was REALLY bored in my previous career and spent long hours on BC instead of doing work (around the time of the post count incident)... well, actually, I'd finished all the work I was expected to do and was sitting around waiting for the next thing to arrive on my desk. Things are very different now!!
Hmm, this sounds familiar
-
I do agree with you, however, I have only been in the band 4 weeks, so its not my call to make.
Ah... but it's your band too, don't forget You always get that tentative early stage, when you don't want to seem pushy... but you want to show you're interested Anyway, glad they arrived at what sounded like the right decision
tIs done bro thanks. Just needed some clarity.
