1.
Alembic and Star bass for me in this context. The Ray is bottom, but of course Rays don't have to sound like that. In fact the Ray sound here reminds me of my old Aggie GS112s with the tweeter engaged; bottom, searing top, and nothing at all in the middle.
Primo. 3EQ, all those options, people slate the one. Sigh.
2.
Well that explains it then doesn't it, you silly sausage. That's like trying to tell the difference between a butternut squash and Ann Widdicombe's arse through the bottom of a bottle.
That's an image. Not one I wanted; but one I now have. Cheers Nige!
3.
They told me that I was going to be the 'primary coupling interface between robomod's legs and torso'. I agreed before I realised they meant a*se...
Well, there was some discussion about whether you were a peni... ahem!
4. Awesome pic, chief - I think we can all confirm that your kid is metal! \m/ My bass face is pretty bad. I do a lot of lower jaw jutting and pouting - I'm either looking like I'm asking for a kiss or chewing cud. The drummer's drum/sex face is infinitely worse, however...
5. Some of you may be wondering how six mods could match the giants who previously walked amongst us. The answer is: taking inspiration from Transformers, we retain the ability to transform into one giant moderator, possessing awesome firepower. We had to take this approach once it became apparent that light touch moderating would no longer work - given that Discreet has trademarked the term "light touch" for the forthcoming InnuendoChat. He signed his last e-mail off with "In your endo", which suggest he's making good progress. Beyond that, I'm very much looking forward to it. This forum has given me a lot, and I enjoy my posting here - and now I get to help out, so it all works perfectly for me
6. The debate thus far, for those joining us at the bottom of the thread: BRX - Youtube clips are fluffing wonk for getting a true impression of a sound. David - Yeah, but you get a rough idea. Not mutually incompatible, I'd suggest, lads. I think they could have benefited from a more serious stab at the clip.

G&L SB-2

Only ever heard good thIngs about G&L.
8. Bump for this - we all seem to have a lot to say on here... Maybe someone out there could have more to say omn Twitter?
9. Why no Death From Above 1979?!?
10. Scott's a dude. He has a very conversational approach. You mIght call it boring. I'd call it honest.
11. I watched this one video and now I too can say that the Stingray is twangy crap Seriously, skip lunch before playing one. You'll want to save space for when you eat up those words In related news: EQ. Great vid, enjoyed it!
12. What, no sex?
13.
You're not meant to blow it that hard.
Oink oink
14. Bass, BVs, drink pints, provide banter, lead the clapping.
15. What, people still play in standard tuning?
16. GAs/herding, fashion, marketing... Please note, also, that this forum has a very unique dynamic - we'll have trends on here which are not, necessarily, being replicated elsewhere in the market.
17.
If you boost your Bass, Mids and Treble then it's just like raising your overall signal and won't address the mid cut. If you're not wanting to shift your Big Muff you could always buy a cheap EQ pedal and set it with a sizeable mid hump, thus every time you engage the fuzz with it you'll be able to punch through. That's what the bassist from ASIWYFA does, seems to work a treat!
Ah, there you go - I should really read some more posts before commenting! Eskimo nailed what I was thinking.
18.
Incidentally this is why some companies make bass distortion pedals with lots of EQ controls on-board. Like the MXR Blowtorch. It doesn't sound so great on its own but use it in a band context and it suddenly makes sense. Shame it's 18v or they would sell loads of them.
The 18V issue is the only reason I avoided buying one - which prompted much heckling from Rich, for being wet Opted for the Zvex Mastotron for my fuzz needs, which has the added bonus of allowing some alteration to impedence to cater for active basses.
19. Do you get any difference if you swap the pedals round in the chain? I'll second the above - my Big Muff struggled to cut when the guitarist swapped to fuzz. It was go loud or go home for a while; Dry mode does offer some respite, but you need a more fundamental thought about what sound you - as a band - want, and who'll do what to get it.
20. Give it a few months then listen back - I'm normally hyper-critical on the day; bored a few weeks later; but somehow find magic in the mundane months later... Since this thread inspired me to go back and have a listen, I've found more good stuff than I knew we had! Sounds like you're well on the road McNach
21. Have you considered... ? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32n1AK6o5i0
22. I'd go for a J5. I mean, half the attraction of having a Jazz, is the neck pick-up solo - it's a sound you don't get from much else. That'd be my call.
23.
I think the blog needs a password protected, subscription only section... bAsschat
In like Flynn.
