1.
I had one for a while before moving it on to fund another bass. I do miss it actually and will probably get another when I have more cash.....
Is that the one I now have? If so, I blame PeteB. I picked up a bonus at work - banked the bulk of it and left myself some money for treats; ended up with a Stingray. Then sold large chunks of the rest of the collection to fund some more Superb basses, love them to pieces - can't believe it took me so long to discover them! However, that was my experience. It might not be yours. Can you find a BC'er down in Cheltenham to let you have a try? I don't think you'll be disappointed, but always worth trying
  2.
THIS http://youtu.be/kQShZ2Tnshk
One for the w*** bank, ta!
  3.
While acknowledging the fact that not all gigs are the same IMO a "rock" gig should appeal to the visual senses as much as the auditory ones. Remember you've got to give the audience something to make up for the fact that live most bands present a louder but less well mixed version of their recordings. If there's nothing worth watching, you'd probably be better of staying at home and playing the album loud. The beer is likely to be better, and less chance you'll stick to the carpet.
I did have one gig, where - sadly - I had to stand very still. It was about the dullest thing I've ever done, despite being almost note perfect; and I'm sure the crowd thought so to... the dull bit, not the note perfect bit. Now it's straight to the front; find a comfy monitor for my foot; and get riffing... interspersed with the usual gurns, shouts of "come on" and headbanging associated with the art. Anything to get a reaction and show some energy really. I'd rather go for a run across stage to hit a riff with the guitarists than be note perfect, as I know which one I'd rather see from down the front. Takes a while to get the hang of, mind. That first gig out of the comfort zone requires some brassy ones to get right
  4.
What the flip, I just wanted a quick fix for the tab underneath a PDF and come back to this !
Standard fare, chief. Nice big slice of the same old argument But yeah, get down Boots for a cheap pair of reading glasses. Put some tape or permanent marker over the bottom halves. Job done! You'll not only be able to avoid seeing tab - but you'll also be unable to see your penis; will have no idea where the pavement is; and be able to trip over small children and dogs. Sounds like a winner to me.
  5.
Stop talking him out of it I have my eye on that Bongo 5 HH
Every cloud, and all that! That should give you some cash for now, and a little change left over if you did want to come back to... which I think you will. Me? I'd hang on to it. Sell the rig, get something light, keep the Bongo

    Hello all!
Hello Cetus, and welcome! There are a number of us who started playing bass only a few years ago, and I for one have found the advice on this site to be absolutely invaluable, as well as the people to be very welcoming and ready to help. I'm sure you'll love being part of the family Especially Gust0o, as he is the nicest member of the forum. And also the most handsome.
I'd echo those comments, entirely. This is a great forum Welcome in!
  7.
My warwick was cheap, and so many times I've sat and thought that x y or z bass must be better cos it costs more, or is more desirable- which is crap cos a good bass is a good bass. You have a good bass
Exactly - and, to be honest, if you love it, it's very hard to put a price tag on your enjoyment.
  8.
You got an as new streamer, nicely set up for a lot less than a new one. Any more questions than that and you'll just get annoyed
This. I think these were anywhere up to £2,000 new. You paid a lot less than that, which I think you can be happy about in "as new" condition, no? Some times, when chasing the rabbit down this particular hole, Wonderland loses some of it's glamour. The market, on here, for second-hand Warwicks is flat - so you'll see some depressed prices out there. That's only an issue for you if you intended to sell, and only on this forum. But, if you bought the bass to play well; to play well in your hands... well, it's irrelevant
  9. Reluctantly, I'm in the gig it or go home camp - though I say reluctantly, as I know exactly how you feel. I think there's an old thread on here from when I put a ding in my old Gibson at rehearsal But yes, you bought it for the sound, the playability... thus it pretty has to be that bass in your hands. I don't know if the new £300 Subs are any good or not.
  10. If he's that organised now... Well, better off without!
  11.
another good reason to get this sucker tattoo of my head
Boom boom!
  12. I think BRX has nailed it here. Failing that, if you're still struggling, try giving head.
  13.
As I'm not a serious enough player to own a Ray .....it is one i will always admire from afar !
Ever in York? You're welcome to pop round and try. I've got two 4-string 3EQs and a 5-string 3EQ - all different years, so you get a good feel
  14. Ronaldinho (remember him?) obviously didn't get that e-mail, Ras: http://www.beveragedaily.com/Markets/Pepsi-blunder-costs-Brazil-soccer-star-Ronaldinho-Coke-millions
  15.
Was he surrounded by 5 guys telling him how awesome it looked, despite it looking like everybody else's?
Oh yes, and he was slapping the jesus out of it. I think it was a shortscale, however.
  16.
not threatening at all imho - it will only sound as good as the musicianship of the keyboard player using it
There's your way out lads - we've all played with keys players; we know your typical keys player is a feckless dandy. We'll be fine, our jobs are safe for another day
  17. Lot of energy in their live show, I imagine.
  18. I liked this thread more when it was about Tab Clear
  19.
The deal is, it's hard to ignore, and the OP doesn't want to be distracted by it. He didn't start banging the "tab is evil" drum, he just wanted some advice on how to get rid of the distraction.
Sorry chief, that's how a lot of these go. As above, my bad. As was said to the OP previously, the best thing to do might be to edit the material - blank it out on paper; edit it out on PDF; or look at some of the software options, which will let you customise what you can see. If he's after new material, I'm pretty sure many publishers do score-only versions. Might be another idea?
  20.
I wondered how long it would be before this thread was taken out of context!
Not long. My fault. I get a little defensive of other players around the "you must learn music camp" - my bad!
  21. Oh yes, it can be marked. But often isn't. Which isn't entirely helpful to the beginner; speaking from my personal experience. Hence I did find it useful to read both lines, until I built some genuine familiarity. Fact is, you do what's best for you Rest be damned.
  22.
There could be a prize* of guitar strap for someone who can make the above words into an understandable sentence... * Only if you are directly related to Django Reinhart and you were born on the 28th February 2012
Brilliant!
  23.
It may always be that one note, but if it's a B on your guitar, and you play it as an open 2nd string, it will lack the power and majesty of Mr hendrix's 14th fret on the 5th string, which will give you that lovely squealy noise you were after. Tab, for stringed instruments, is bloody useful for this sort of thing. In conjunction with the score up above it as well of course, so you know how long to make it squeal for
Ah, so I wasn't going mad!
  24.
Never! Besides I'd have already bought a Russian bride with my lottery winnings.
Tart! She'll never love you like I could! Anyway, I'm feeling all emotionally bruised by your rejection. It's a pity, as I'd just found two cans... oh well, more for me!
  25.
I don't understand your last statement. There's no working out of the music needed, a note is a note and is only ever going to be that single note.
What's not to understand, lah? When I was learning I found it useful to read the two in conjunction. I'd try and read the music, to understand if I'd gotten the line, the timing; and then go back to the tab, so I could assess if I had, genuinely, had my fingers in the right places. I hadn't had the years of tedious lectures on Basschat about improving my fundamentals, yet. I was young, I was naive. I was some crazy amateur just out to learn a lick or two. And, you know, it works a treat People have different learning styles - and knowledge will come to people differently, for all sorts of reasons. You can say a note is a note and is only ever going to be that single note; but when I sat there and still trying to work out the fretboard, I didn't have flipping clue Does that make sense now? Shout if not and I'll have another crack Sorry, was reminiscing!
