1. Well done Rob. Looks a nice Gig. So the Overwater isn't going to get a look in.
2. +1 for EAD
3. £250 is my top-end for it. I've been bidding on it for months. Offered them a decent price and they keep re-listing. It's now turned in to a bit of a game. That said, it was £350 when It all started, so who knows.
4. I remeber Pete, (Greenking), collecting this from ACG HQ. I was there speccing out my Recurve. It is one beautiful Bass. Good Luck with the sale and someone will be very happy if they buy this.
5. I remeber my first Jazz gig. A posh Dinner-Dance. Some great advice already. What i did was get MiDi files for the numbers we were playing, (pretty much the set-list above), and used them to learn the numbers. You can get virtually anything on MiDi for free. You can download a MiDi player from VanBasco for free that allows you to "Solo" the Bass and slow the track down. Really helped. Happy to send what I have if it will help.
6.
Thanks for the reply bassbuny.in your proffesional opinion what mark bass set up would give me a mark king type sound?could you please be specific in what model head...
Again that is a pretty tough question. Firstly I am a great believer in "The Funk's in the Fingers". A persons sound comes from the way they play more than the Bass or the Amp set-up. i have proved this, to a degree, when a good friend of mine, Geoff Chalmers, dropped in to see me and played all my Basses through my Amp and it sounded just like him playing HIS bass through HIS amp. We are talking completely different set-ups and the same sound. That said if you want to sound like Mark King he now uses TC Electronic gear, (used to be with Ashdown), so is that the answer? Who knows until you try it. I find Mark Bass Amps to be pretty transparent but the cabs are quite "warm" and they don't suit me. I went full circle with MB trying EA, Genz, Gallien, TC etc. etc and than back to Mark Bass. The revelation was the EAD Cab. You can get any sound you like out of it as it is a three way design with controls for mid and tweeter. I am now thinking of trying a TC again as I loved the 3 channel idea and the footpedal. I reckon it would be awesome with the EAD. Sorry i have rambled a bit, but i reckon any Mark Bass Amp, (I have a Little Mark II and an SA450), would do the job, but unsure what MB Cab to use as Mark King has a fairly "middy" bright sound. Why not try a TC Classic and a TC 2x12. Crackin set-up and they can be picked up pretty reasonably on here and it is pretty lightweight.
7. Only person that can answer that question is you. I am a MarkBass fan, (I have 2 MB heads), but couple them up to an EAD Cab or a pair of Zoot, (now Purpole Chili), cabs. It's my "Sonic Nirvana". It won't suit everyone though. You really need to try the rigs you propose or at least offer some kind of info as to what music you play, what sound you are looking for etc. I had an SWR Triad, (until the EAD came along), and it was probably the best cab I have ever owned. The EAD trumped it big style.
8. You can get hold of MiDi tracks for virtualy any cover for free. Use a MiDi search engine like VanBasco. You can then remove all the other tracks and just leave the Drums. There is plenty of free MiDi software that will let you do this. You can even convert to MP3 if you wish. We use MiDi files for just that purpose in one band. VanBasco do a free player that will allow you to do the remove bit, but you can's save it.
9. I think you will find the SB301 already has a stereo jack as I don't think they make Mono Barrel Jacks. I would echo Matt's comments about the pots on Artec pre-amps. I have an SE-3 in my SB 425 and the concentric pots occasionaly need a bit of "movement" in them to get rid of crackles. I am just about to remove it and put a spare Bart pre-amp in. You may even find a battery area routed out already with the Bass Collection.
10. The Line 6 jobbie looks like a sound engineers dream. No snakes to run to the back of the room. Leave the mixer on stage and control it from an iPad.
11. Might be worth reposting the pics as they seem to have disappeared.
12. Funnily enough this is being discussd on finnbass at the moment. Rob Gilmour is looking to do something similar on his "P-soup" bass. Check in on the DIY section.
13.
Damn...I'm going to be thinking about this all day and dreaming up ways of raising the money
You've given up Al, so stop worrying.
14. Try giving Dave Marks a shout. He has done all the Demo Vids for Frudua and would be wel placed to answer questions. He had one at the 2010 BassDayy UK in Manchester and it sounded awesome.
15. It's a Mac Ebony fingerboard with no radius.
16. Here's my ACG Recurve 5, the first fiver as I understand it. 17. Speak to Andy at Wizard Pick-ups. He can pretty much do anything.
18. Not the Dave Perry 10 Neck jobbie with single string on each?
19. Had the same problem recently, (and still get the odd twinge in both wrist and elbow loint). Went to physio who explained what the problem was and gave me a series of excercises to strengthen the muscles. That appears to have done the trick as it now happens pretty infrequently.
20. And it's still unsold. I have been bidding on it for some time, even rung them to try and get a deal, but they are pretty unrealistic on what they want for it.
