Muso's Wanted for Jazz/funk instrumental fusion. Cheshire
BassBunny replied to solo4652's topic in Bassists Wanted
Will do Steve. I have played in 2 Bands over the last few years that went for the Jazz/Funk/Fusion vibe, so I guess I will already know some of the numbers they want to go for. I think the "couple of gigs a month" is a bit ambitious as we could never find anywhere who wanted that type of band. -
Carvin BX700 Bass Amp Overview - YouTube CARVIN BX700 & 4-10 CAB ... WOW !! | TalkBass.com OK, mine is pretty much sold, getting picked up tomorrow, but there are less well know alternatives to MB, TC etc. Only reason mine is getting sold is because I stack my new cabs horizontally and the head overhangs a couple of inches each side. Hey, each to their own And you will NEVER have volume issues, it has far more headroom than the Tone Hammer 500 I tried the other day.
Carvin are "Absolutely Stonkin Amps". Drew at Manchester Bass Lounge has a 2nd Hand BX500 For Sale at £240, which is a steal. Virtually identical to Karl's BX700 except it doesn't go down to 2 Ohms. That coupled to a decent Cab would give you everything you need, and more.

The fearful cabs are avalable from http://www.speakerbuilder.co.uk/

If you look at the connections on the offending speaker, the driver/horn are connected to HF1 and HF3, whereas on the OK one it is HF1 and HF2. Still reckon John could be right, a new Speakon socket from Audiospares and then hopefully it can all go back as it should be.

Software for organising your band - rehearsals, gigs and deps?
BassBunny replied to eamonlaser's topic in General Discussion
Try this. http://www.wheresthegig.com/ -
It looks like the existing pickups have screened cables, so the screens are soldered together on the middle pot and then the "hot" wire wired to it's own pot. The yellows look lke earth wires to the pickup cavaties.

I regularly gig with a £150 Bass Collection with a £110 Bass Collection as a back up. Don't give a monkeys about how much it cost, if it's a player, it's a player. Last weekend it was a raather tasty ACG, so both ends of the spectrum.

Saw him with The Big Three many times. Used to be on at The Oasis, in Manchester, regularly. Superb band.
According to this BBC News story http://www.bbc.co.uk...cation-29117849 only 5% of children are playing electric bass, bottom of the list of instruments; even less popular than percussion at 6%, electric guitar at 13% and drums at 14%!
Ah but the BBC haven't given the full picture. The full article, as printed in a number of todays papers, shows the situation in 1999 as well. Then the number of kids playing electric bass was 0%, so the figures are an improvement. Wish i could find the whole chart.

Have they reduced them or is it the £ - Euro rate? Euro took a hit this week.

When they were first launched, they were around £375 from Thomann and then went up to around £550, so at £197 it's a steal. What I really don't understand is why Sandberg didn't do what Lakland, (Skyline) and G&L, (Tribute) etc. etc. did and call it a Sandberg. It has Sandberg hardware, a Sandberg designed pre-amp, Sandberg Logo and their name of the Truss Rod Cover yet it is marketed as a Cort. It is exactly the same as a Sandberg Basic except made in Indonesia. Cort make astonishing instruments including the Lakland, G&L series already mentioned and also make for Fender, Ibanez and a whole lot more, but stick Cort on the headstock and nobody wants to know.
-
I had a 5 string one. Check the review section. Shut your eyes and it's a Sandberg, I can say that with some authority as I also owned a Sandberg Basic which is really what this is. Stunning Bass and a gift at the price.

So it has a replacement driver in it and it's crap. As Bill has pointed out that is probably because it is not matched to the Cab and you want to throw something else in without matching it??????? You will probably end up with the same result and lighter in the pocket. Why not do an internal measurement, mention any porting there is and ask a forum member to run it through one of the modelling programs, (WinISD or similar). At least then you will know what speaker will be suited.

I do have a spare amp but never take it to a Gig, I do however carry an Eden WTDI.

A couple of Bass Collection Nanyo
BassBunny replied to TheGreek's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
For £100 with an Amp, does it matter? I can't establish where one of my 3 was made, only that it is an early 2000 one so likely Korea. It is every bit as good as the other 2 Jap ones, in fact the high mass bridge is better than the "bent-tin" on the 2 Jap ones and it has got, what appear, to be Gotoh tuners, the same as the others. I was happy to pay £110 for it, so £100 is an absolute bargain with the amp. -
Just bought a MarkBass NY121 from Martin. Smooth as silk, as ever. We hadn't seen each other for a good few years and then 2 deals in the last few weeks. Cheers Martin.

SOLD - Markbass Little Mark II - spares/repair
BassBunny replied to HarperHawk's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
Hey there, thanks for the comments, I have a new rig now so the lmkii is surplus to my requirements. if I had the funds I'd look into repair tho and then could sell as working. Somebody is potentially getting a bargain but I understand there is a gamble element to it
Hi, I wasn't suggesting that you repair it. Just a bit of information for an interested buyer. Make the call to Real, get an idea of cost, decide if it is worth it. -
SOLD - Markbass Little Mark II - spares/repair
BassBunny replied to HarperHawk's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
The problem with Forums is that you will probably get 47,000 different reasons for the fault, of which 46,999 wil fry the amp. Why not just contact Real Electronics in Sheffield. They are the official MB, and TC and........, service agents. If it is a common fault they can give you a price immediately. Pal of mine had to have all the output FETs on his LMK replaced. Cost him £153 which incuded parts, labour, courier and VAT. So assuming around a similar price, £100 for the amp, £150 repair and it's a cheap LMII with a warrantied repair. -
Bass collection bass pickup replacement. Recommendations?
BassBunny replied to Skinnyman's topic in Repairs and Technical
Someone has taken over from Wizard and has all the knowledge etc. Worth tracking them down as they could give you some good asvice or re-wind the stock pickups. That said I've got 3 Bass Collections, all active and the pre-amps in all of them are pretty crap. Different pre-amp in each one. Have swopped one out out for a Bart pre-amp and that has transformed the bass. The pickups are really good and you can get a real Jazz "growl" out of it. So it might not be a pickup issue. -

One, maybe two 112's needed. £600 available. Suggestions?
BassBunny replied to solo4652's topic in Amps and Cabs
Hi Steve, As someone who has had a pair of Mike Walsh's Zoot 1x12's for around 8 yrs now, you know what I would say. The drivers he is proposing are the same as in mine and I have been more than happy with them. I have bought and sold loads of cabs over the years but always kept the Zoot's. The secret is in the super lightweight ply Mike somehow manages to get hold of that make the cabs as light as a fart. It is great being able to use 1 cab for a small venue or onstage monitoring and then the 2 if you want to really make some noise.
