Axes'R'Us is the place. The American Standard ones fit Schaller Straplocks, trust me I know. I have 3 sets on various basses.. http://www.axesrus.co.uk/American-Standard-Size-Strap-Pins-p/he003.htm
Cort build a lot of Squiers these days which is why the quality has improved so much - that's a great looking bass and a nice alternative to a traditional jazz (though I'm still totally impressed with my Squier Active Deluxe Jazz).
They also build G&L Tributes, Lakland Skylines, as well as guitars for Fender & Ibanez. One of the most uderrated and ignored brands.

Best head/cab combo you have played and why
BassBunny replied to StuOfEmbers's topic in Amps and Cabs
Eden WT550 through an EAD Foundation 212. The Eden has so much natural tone and balls and the EAD is as clear as a bell. Sonic heaven. -
Don't think there is any effects on the bass. Sounds typical Jazz Bass with the neck pick-up wound down and the bridge pick-up wound up.

Know Your Arpeggios - free bass lesson...
BassBunny replied to All thumbs's topic in Theory and Technique
I think I need to work with some chord charts and arpeggios Stu. I've realised this for a while now. Many thanks Scott Peter
It certainly won't do you any harm Peter. Also helps at Jam sessions. Someone shouts out a chord and you know the chord tones that fit. The demonstration with Californication, to me, really highlights the importance of knowing your arpeggios as it sounded pretty good. -
Know Your Arpeggios - free bass lesson...
BassBunny replied to All thumbs's topic in Theory and Technique
Great lesson Scott and learning Arpeggios was a real game changer for me. Got dragged into a Jazz/Fusion band a little while back and was really out of my comfort zone having relied on covering other peoples basslines for years. Had some lessons with Geoff Chalmers and he really pushed me into learning Arpeggios. Now part of my daily workout and it's great having a Chord Chart from the Real Book shoved in front of you and being able to do something with it. Excellent stuff. -
Get BassDoc to make a scratch plate similar to a Tony Levin OLP. Likely to be the tidiest and most cost effective solution. Likey So. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/bass/olp-tony-levin-signature-5-string-bass

George Porter Jr & The Runnin' Partners are on at Manchester's Band on the Wall on 28th March. George brings his own unique long term project the Runnin’ Pardners to BOW, well respected not only as a quintessential New Orleans band, the touring band continues to receive accolades on the funk and jam band scene. He has assembled some seasoned and talented musicians to join him on this project including Brint Anderson (guitar) and, Michael Lemmler (keyboards) and rising stars on the New Orleans music scene Khris Royal (saxophone) and Terrence Houston (drums). Gutted that I'm gigging that night........................
Where the hell are Marshall amps , the VBC 400 is way outside players budgets and dated. Talk about getting caught with your pants down.
They bough Eden, so i guess they have decided to give up on their own range.

Class D amps - do the manufacturers know what they are trying to do?
BassBunny replied to LukeFRC's topic in Amps and Cabs
The main problem with the class D stuff is the lack of real umph. There is no other way of describing it but all the class D stuff I've tried is missing that real 'weight' to the sound. I do want to try the Aguilar Tone Hammer as allegedly this amp suffers least from this issue, but until someone brings out a class D module that sounds the same to my knackered old ears as a good old a/b design with huge transformers, then I'll keep the SWR and continue to be on first name terms with my chiropractor
Couldn't agree more. Have tried most Class D amps and actually owned 2x RH450's, as I really wanted it to work. Loud, yes, but lacks "balls". If it wasn't for a problem with my back, (and I am on first name terms with my Chiropractor), I would still be using my Eden WT550. Loads of natural tone and tons of clout. So will stick with MarkBass, either my SA450 or LM2 and job done. -
But the point is that if you want a quiet home then don't move in to a home close to an established live music venue, which is apparently what some of the complainers in this case have done. After all the venue has been operating in this way for 20 years apparently. (obviously some residents may still pre-date that)
Actually NONE of the residents pre-date Night & Day setting up where they are. It is situated on Oldham St which in years gone by was the place to shop in Manchester but over the years shops closed and it became a retail wasteland. The only people to be found in that area were druggies and working girls, you would not venture there of an evening. The area was composed of Wholesale Outlets/Warehouses and shops with storage/offices above, no living accomodation. Night & Day took a big risk opening up and as a result more venues followed their lead, Dry Bar, Matt & Phreds and were all pretty successful. About 10 years ago the surrounding areas started to be developed. Buildings changed from retail to flats, mills to apartments, anything that was empty appeared to be fair game. The area quickly took on a trendy persona and got called the Northern Quarter. The bars and music venues were in a lot of ways responsible for helping this transition as the attraction of having all this nightlife on the doorstep, was really appealing. So who then is to blame? You could argue that Manchester Council, in the interest of swelling their Council Tax coffers, have allowed this conversion/development to go on unchecked. After all they get nothing for empty commercial property. Or is it developers cutting corners on sound insulation, who knows. Al I do know is that Night & Day have been there the longest.

A Moon? Same in a line control arrangement but can't see if the neck pickup is slanted or not.

Markbass - all made in Indonesia now and heavy?
BassBunny replied to phatbass787's topic in Amps and Cabs
I've just picked up my new Micromark 801 that I special-ordered before xmas. It, too, now sports the "Designed in Italy. Assembled in Indonesia" sticker and likewise is heavier than it 'should' be; 6.6kg as opposed to the advertised 5.2kg which is nearly a 27% increase. Don't get me wrong, it sounds absolutely great - everything I hoped for and more in that respect - and had this thread not been started I almost certainly would never have thought to weigh it, but given that I bought it specifically for maximum portability and paid a considerable premium for the Markbass name and everything which that (as a happy owner of several other products) stood for, it's rather irritating to find that it's no longer as-advertised.
I bought a Genz Benz Contour last year based on the weight. When it arrived it was about 8Lbs heavier than advertised and it went straight back. Whilst I can understand that if it sounds the business, you wouldn't want to send it back, but Markbass need to change their weight specs as soon as possible. -
There is a Manchester Evening News Article about it http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/whats-on/whats-on-news/night-day-cafe-neighbour-receives-6519139 and the owners of Night & Day started the petition.

Can I please ask for you help in signing this petition if you care about live music. www.change.org/.../manchester-city-council-to-remove-our-statutory-nuisance-abatement-notice Those of you from the North West will probably know Night & Day which is an established Music Venue and Bar/Cafe. It has operated successfully for 23 years and just because 1 person, who is a new resident, has complained to Manchester Council, they have served them with a Statutory Nuisance Abatment Notice. . Night & Day is a hugely important venue in Manchester, a proving ground for local, national and international acts before they make their jump to the larger venues. The depth and quality of the bands who appear there are a credit to the owners and Manchester will be much the worse if it should close. Venues like Night & Day and Dry Bar were the vanguard for the "Northern Quarter" actually becoming a trendy (and obviously coffer-filling) night spot. The new resident moves next door to an established venue and moans about the noise. When the hell is common sense going to play out in this regard? If someone moves into a property next to an established venue, unless they're taking the mick (e.g. loud music until 2am on a week night) they shouldn't have a leg to stand on. Equally, councils need to work the opposite way around when granting new licences. It shouldn't be a formality, it should be similar to planning permission. Over 12000 people have signed this just today and if you are concerned about music venues closing down, please add your name and spread the word.. Cheers, Stuart

Bass Collection SB320 on Gumtree
BassBunny replied to TheGreek's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Thanks. Still, £90 is not an exceptionally large amount of money. Just out of vague curiosity, would it be worth that? The HoneyBurst one isn't where I thought it was. For some reason I read it as being in Markfield. Where it actually is would be quite some journey for me to pick up.
Ive got an 88 MIJ 5 String and have just picked up a 2000 5String that didn't get a bid on eBay when listed at £160. It was listed 3 times and as it was near me I got it for £130 in a private sale and he included a brand new gig bag, (just sold for £10), stand, strap and Dunlop Straplocks. I reckon the bass owes me about £100 and it's a stunner. It's an SGC rather than SX one and probably built in Korea during the transition period to SX ownership. It is every bit as good as my MIJ one and appears to use Gotoh hardware, (but not branded), as did the original ones. For £90 it is well worth a punt IMHO. The problem with Bass Collections is that are really underappreciated and as such have little re-sale value. If you fancy one, (and it's an awful lot of bass for the money), give it a whirl. -
If that Honeyburst one was fretless I'd put up with the two hour round trip bus ride to nab it. Is the blue one MIJ, or MIK?
The guff in the ad for the blue one says it's an SX one so could even be China. Certainly not a Jap one. -
Think you have answered your own question. Great pre-amps and the passive tone control is very effective.
I prefer more classic styling aesthetically, so not likely to go for the ACG type options - but i try to keep an open mind. Maybe if I tried one and loved it..?
If you tried one you would love it. I've got 2 and have cleared out virtually all my other bassses out. Alan does a "j-Type" although the Finn is very similar.
