1. To be fair, It's only really "Earth" now, (Verdine White, Phil Bailey and Ralf Johnson). Saw this line-up at MEN Arena a few years back and they weren't a patch on the original. To their credit they did admit to Phil Bailey's wife helping him sing the high notes off stage. As one of my favourite all time bands I hate to admit it, butI think it is time to quit.
2. No problem. If you PM me an email address, i'll take a pic and send it.
3. Bump and another price drop.
4.
No I'm not familiar with the song.... to me it just really didn't sound very musical.... Whats the original piece called?
It's Take A Pebble from ELP's first album. Here's the "proper" version. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IaYsgjn82GA
5. Might be worth giving it a go Steve. Why not suggest getting together with Git and Drums and chat through any concerns to put your mind at rest and get some idea of the overall plan. If you think at this stage they would be better trying to put a good pub band together, with a view to going Corporate when they have a polished package, tell them. Having been in bands since the year dot, I find a good blend of Pubs/Private is the way to go. If someone wants to see you before commiting, you can't invite them to a private gig. You pick a lot of good gigs up via pubs so it may be no bad thing.
6. Just had a look at the Vid and at Montreux he uses a Stingray, a P bass with P/J pickups and a what looks like a Vigier. The P Bass seems to lack a pickguard and has a very Stingray like control plate.
7.
Hey, I've done a transcription to this tune in my bass blog earlier this year. I did a little lesson about "The legendary Motown Groove", especially known from Diana Ross & The Supremes hit "You Can't Hurry Love" which happened to have a big renaissance during the 80ies in songs like "I'm so excited" (Pointer Sisters), "Footloose" (Kenny Loggins) or "Wake me up before you Go Go" (Wham) and more. The post is unfortunately written in german (I'll have to translate this one day, because it's a really interesting topic), but you can still use the transcription.Have a look: http://four-strings-...before-you.html Tom
Some good stuff on your site Tom. Particularly She Caught The Katy. I was struggling with the little "lick" at the end of each verse. Nailed it with YouTube vid. Thanks a lot.
8. So what happened Steve?
9.
oh dear
+1
10. Bump with price drop. Now £650
11. Yup, I'll be there. Picking up a new addition from Alan
12. Are you sure you won't package up for a courier?
13.
Bassbunny might be able to tell us, but i think he also used a P bass and a Vigier at some point. Montreaux is a great live DVD, but i'd also try and track down the live DVD at Hammersmith. Its a killer. Gets a nice sound out of his Kramer fretless too
Now that is a good excuse to watch the DVD again. Pretty sure I remember him using a P Bass but i'll have a look and report back.
14. Was going to keep this as it is sooooooooooo good, but another ACG incoming this week so one in, one out.
15. Got the DVD of the Montreaux show, awesome. John Turnbull of Blockheads fame was with them then.
16. MTD's are crackin basses and support is fantastic. Mike Tobias usually answers any questions himself.
17.
Thanks Skelf! I was just thinking... it's not listed on the web page... but does the bass have side fret markers? think i'd be pretty lost without them
If you don't make it to MBL, you are more than welcome to come and have a butchers at my ACG. Not sure which part of Manc you are from but I am in Altrincham area.
18. According to the album it is Paul Webb's Bass.
19. This is the guy you need. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Signs-by-Alyerpal/131023953663505 He's a good friend. does awesome work and isn't expensive.
20. Had athought. Why npot try the "stick-on" ones first? I have them on my hack bass and they are great. Stay put and work a treat. You can get them either on eBay or from http://rothkoandfrost.co.uk/
21. [s]Price drop to £650. £595 £575 £525[/s]. Now Sold This is the speaker enclosure people mean when they say SVT speaker cabinet. It’s all about tone. Other than the color scheme, it is identical to the original SVT-810. Why eight 10” speakers? We learned early on that 10” speakers work much more efficiently than fifteens or eighteens—and if you put eight 10” speakers together, you can move a huge column of air. You’d need five 18” or six 15” speakers to move as much air as the SVT-810E! And they simply wouldn’t be able to respond to transient peaks as quickly as our tens. The SVT-810E is still manufactured using the same design dating all the way back to 1969. The Infinite Baffle design of these sealed enclosures produces vast amounts of tightly focused bass. That’s why you’ll find the SVT-810E on stage with such artists as Chris Squire (Yes), Geezer Butler (Black Sabbath), John McVie (Fleetwood Mac), and far too many others to list here. In the world of high performance bass cabs, the Ampeg SVT-810E stands tall and proud. It's in great condition, just a couple of small scuffs. 22. The crazy thing about the whole PAT testing scenario, (and all our gear is tested and certifcation up to date), is that having produced your certificate, if you then ask the venue for proof that their electrics are up to date, the answer will probably be "swivel". My view is it should be a 2 way street. You show me yours, I'll show you mine.
