1. Have you got one of these locally? http://www.thezipyard.com/ I have used them for some pretty heavy duty work and they coped really well.
2. Just Copy the URL from You Tube and paste it in the post.
3. He is absolutely awesome. His work with Joe Zawinul is awesome. He did a masterclass at UK Bass Day a few years back and it got a standing ovation. First time I have seen that happen.
4.
IIRC it's been established it's published on a shoe-string. I know most of Guitarist & Guitar&Bass are laid out a month in advance, so if BGM is the same they wouldn't be able to afford the delay in going back & rehashing the pages no matter how much they wanted to fix their mahoosive balls up. I'm assuming it's perfect bound which means drying time & at what? .... around 60pp+ there's a whole lot of folding on those sheets to take up time too.
That may be the case, but they have enough resource to keep sending me letters reminding me my subscription has run out. After the issue with the Lull review I decided not to renew. It was getting like the same old same old regarding interviews with players and the same brands of equipment seem to come up time and time again.
5.
Nobody has mentioned Stevie Wonder? I've played it in both function bands and your more typical pub rock / indie bands. Superstition is a must imho! Also Valerie always gets them dancing as does all right now.
Correct. Forgot those. We do both and Uptight works well as everyone can join in.
6. Loads of Info here on Weddings. With a bit of updating you're good to go. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/5436-weddings/ Haven't waded through it all but don't forget PLI and a PAT testing certificate. Essential. The ones that get the dance floor filled for us are. Love Really Hurts - Billy Ocean First Last Everything - Barry White Higher And Higher - Jackie Wilson I Got You (I Feel Good) - James Brown Brown Eyed Girl - Van Morrison and as we have a Female singer as well. Right Back Where I Started From - Maxine Nightingale Chain Reaction - Diana Ross It Takes Two - Kim Weston and Tammi Terrell One of the main problems with Weddings is that most of the people are invited and accept out of politeness. They don't actually want to be there. Trying to strike a balance so that everyone is happy is not easy. The Bride and Groom inevitably pick a band that plays the music they like and doesn't consider the guests. I guess you can cover that with a DJ, but it can be quite easy to end up playing to a handful of guests when you start playing.
7.
Speakon. Obviously you'll then need another cable (same guy does speakon-to-jack leads), but honestly you'll never look back!
+3. Jacks are really only recommended for Cabs up to 150W. Speakon is the way to go. Audiospares is your friend here. They will have back panels and sockets at reasonable prices.
8. EAD Foundation 212. Stopped looking when I got this.
9. Can't believe this is still here. Awesome Basses and probably the best bang for your buck, period. Easily as good as the US versions and this one is the best colour/neck combination.
10. Red Pearl or Black Pearl for me. And another shout out for Bass Doc. I've seen some of his scratchplates and they are really good
11.
Damn, I procrastinated. Good luck Stuart.
Pete, If you want it. Go for it. I haven't managed to sort picking it up yet, (or if I really want it) and would rather someone dived in before it went.
12. Hi Matt. i'm talking with the seller. The problem is it is around 6 foot tall and he doesn't have a box. My son is up in Carlisle on Monday so am trying to sort out him bringing it back.
13.
Thanks. I was hoping you might say "It's OK, but overpriced for what it does - not as good as a BF Vintage...".
I am a great believer in you get what you pay for and frankly I do not think the EAD is overpriced. The design and build of it is better than any commercially available cab I have come across, and that is quite a few a lot of which were more expensive than the EAD and not half as well made.
14.
I'd love to try one of those... What's it like in use?
Awesome. Very clear and articulate, quite HiFi really, but with loads of bottom end. If you back off the mid and horn you can get a really nice "creamy" bass tone out of it. I tend to leave the Mid/High attenuators in the 12 o' clock position and just tweak the amp for the surrounding acoustics. I really cuts through the mix and is built like a tank. Certainly sorted out my Cab GAS.
15. EAD Foundation 212 or a pair of Zoot 1x12's
16. I've had one for a few years and they are fantastic. It's amazing what you can pile on them.
17.
I'd say the build qualiy is roughly Lakland Skyline level.
Not surprising as they are built by Cort who also make Lakland Skylines, (and also make for Fender, Ibanez etc.) I have a G&L L2500 Tribute and it is an awesome bass. As you say the build quality is fantastic and you really do get more bang for your buck.
18. I've had 2 Straps from Minotaur and no problems at all. One was sent to a Hotel in Ibiza whilst we were celebrating our Wedding Anniversary as it was a present from Mrs BB.
19. And it's been removed. What a surprise.
20.
You forgot to put price up
Price up now. The post actually loaded up before I had finished editing it.
21. I got this recently from SK8 and as I don't play 4 string basses these days it's up for grabs. It is so good I decided that rather than put it F/S straight away I would see if I would use it, but sadly haven't. It came with a P-Retro which I wanted for another deal so is now back to original passive mode only with better controls, (Alpha pots etc.). Forget the fact it has Squire on the headstock this one is as good as any Fender P-Bass I have come across. The build quality is fantastic and it sounds awesome, probably in some way due to the high-mass bridge on it. It is pretty much in mint condition other than a very slight "tweak" to one of the elephant ears which is hardly noticeable and does not affect it in any way. If I were to keep it I would probably change the tuners anyway, they are the only part of the bass that could benefit from an upgrade. Everything else about this little beauty is just awesome. This is the actual one Thomann used to photograph for the website so they will have picked the best they could to photograph. Here's the link to the actual bass on Thomann's site. http://www.thomann.d...pbass_60_02.htm Here are some pics. http://s277.beta.pho...20CV%20P%20Bass Apologies for the rough ones taken with a mobile phone, can't seem to find the camera. The better ones show it with the P-Retro on which has now been removed.
22.
No, but page imposition is. Not having seen it I have to go off what's been said here & it's absolutely identical in it's duplication???. (an easy test is if the page folios are duplicated too, if they are then it's more likely the printer, if they read on as they should then chances are it's the designer) Like I said, that depends on who prints it. It may be that all of the magazine's procedures were followed, but if a comp in the printers (or more than one if it's a big place) puts the same pages in twice, the magazine would be none the wiser until they get their press copy. With modern imposition software it's very easily done. Saw it more times than I should over the years.
So if the printers put the same pages in twice they would have the same page numbers? They haven't. Exactly the same review with different page numbers.
23.
Can't agree. Page make-up is not done by a printer, it's done in-house by the editorial department or outsourced to a freelancer designer. Irrespective of who carries out page make-up a dummy issue will be reviewed by the editorial department or the editor before sign-off for publication. Duplication of an article is a clear indication of lax or non-existent editorial procedures. The only head on the chopping block for this sort of mistake is the magazine's.
Beat me to it.
24.
Two identical reviews of a Fender acoustic bass in this month's issue...
Just got mine delivered. Went straight to the Yolanda Charles interview to be followed by the Mike Lull Bass review.....................................only to see the duplicated Fender Acoustic review. My subscription is up for renewal, not going to happen. Whilst proof reading every word is a pain, (but a necessity IMHO), a quick flick through the mag would have spotted this error in seconds.
