1.
I have probaby left it far to late to be much kop...but I really enjoy figuring tunes etc out..its a cracking feeling finding 'that missing note
You ain't too old. I didn't start playing Bass until I hit 56. Now playing in 3 bands, loving it and like you I am a guitarist that saw the error of his ways. Even manage to hold my own in a Jazz/Fusion band so just go for it. As the saying goes "Don't count the days, make every day count".
2. Any decent Guitar Repair guy should be able to do them. I had them fitted to my ACG's and Alan did them himself. The ACG that is coming my way soon is having them fitted before I receive it from Alan. The ones on my Marleaux were done by Steve Robinson, Manchester Guitar Tech.
3. The guy says he is based in Sale, which is just down the road from me. I'll see if I can get him to let me have a look at it.
4. I've just bought a Genz Benz Contour 115 from bass direct. Down to £299 now and really impressed. Punchy as hell and even if you wind the bass up, it is so clear. Unbeatable bargain IMHO. Only criticism is you can't get the extention cabs over hear, which would make it a 500w rig.
5. There is also Alto the Italian PA company. they are distributed/repaired by Proel.
6. Part of Behringer, hence the prices.
7. Mike has just bought a set of Gotoh Tuners from me. Easy transaction and great Comms. Would deal again.
8.
I used this several times last year for our annual Hofner French bash, it worked very well. It'll put out whatever you're putting into the PC (webcam for me, but desk audio would work just a s well...). I did it all for free, and was pleased with the (OK, modest...) result. http://www.ustream.tv/new Hope this helps...
That's the one Janek uses.
9. Yanek Gwizdala does this quite a bit. Can't hurt trying to email him.
10. Here's my 10 penneth and a tale that nearly resulted in me giving up playing. Started with problems cramping up in my arms and loss of feeling/tingling in fingers that comes on now and again and steadily got worse. This started almost a year ago. Then got a really bad back pain. Went to see my GP who just kept giving me painkillers, (which just made me throw up), so I went to see a Chiropractor suspecting a posture issue. Got a full examination and X-Rays and it would appear that I have a double compression fracture in the middle of my spine. It’s an old injury, 10 – 12 years, but is now really uncomfortable. The arm/ finger problems, are due to issues with neck alignment causing the neck muscles to compress the nerves running into my arms. Any tingling and loss of feeling is likely to be a nerve problem. The problem with the GP route is that as the NHS is heavily funded by Drug Companiies, a prescription is the easy option and only if you mither like hell, will they take it further. After 3 months with the Chiro, my back is fine and the fingers are almost back to normal. Nerve damage can take anything up to 6 months to repair. if you suspect a posture issue, an Oesteopath or Chiropractor is really the best bet.
11. For sale a set of Fotoh FB3 Fender Style machine heads. FInished in nikel. They are boxed, (box is a little battered) and the machine keys are still have the polythene sleeves on. Come with the set of bushes. All the specs are here: http://www.g-gotoh.c...btp_product=fb3 Bought them a while back from McCormack's in Glasgow for a project I never got around to. Still have a price tag of £55.95 on the box.
12.
Some great basses by makers like Cort and Aria that have virtually no resale value so can be real secondhand bargains.
And Cort make G&L Tributes, Lakland Skylines, some Fender and Ibanez models so the pedigree is there. The GB74 is a fantastic "Jazz'a like" but with a Jazz/MM pickup combination and coil tapping.
13. Even though I have an EMG equipped Fender Jazz F/S, which would be perfect. My vote goes for a G&L L2000. The "Swiss Army Knife" of basses.
14. Double sided tape Al.
15. Don't seem to be able to upload any more pics. Here's a link to photobucket with all i have. If it doesn't work, Pm me an email address and i'll send some to you. http://s277.photobuc...w/Fender%20Jazz

22.
Thanks for this - similar price on GAK and they appear to have the 1 x 15 and the 2 x 10 in stock - not both in stock at Bassdirect? Any input on either the 1x 15 or 2 x 10?
GAK ALWAYS SAY have things in stock, when they actaully don't. Just speak to Mark at BD.
23.
That is a decent deal. Also the Genz contour combo's mentioned already are good value. Anything that cheap will have limitations though. That is the reason they are built down to a price, obviously. Personally my choice would be for the Genz 1x15 and a used 8 ohm extension cab. You'd be getting the full 500W from a 4ohm total load with plenty of speaker area, maximizing dB and potential volume. There have been concerns about the build of that era of GK MB cabs/combos and I'd be a bit more confident of the Genz build quality. Having said that, I own a GK MB500 (same amp as in the GK combo) and I would highly recommend that part of it. I will also mention that I have neither seen nor played either combo !
They aren't built to that price, they should sell for £600, but there is a reason Mark has them on special. he can explain.
